Michael Moore Goes To Wisconsin

Michael Moore led a rally before tens of thousands of opponents to Gov Walker's union busting budget reform bill on Saturday in Madison. Moore marched with Madison Firefighters Local 311 to attend the event."You have awoken a sleeping giant, the working people" Moore said to the crowd.

“Never forget the three biggest lies of the past ten years, Number one: America is broke. Number two: there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Number three: the Packers can’t win the Super Bowl Without Brett Farve.”-Michael Moore

Michael also referred to the Budget Reform Bill as "the scam of the century" and pointed out that Four hundred of the very wealthiest Americans have more wealth than 155 million Americans on the other end of the scale combined. And yet it’s the teachers who need to sacrifice.

Recent polls are showing overwhelming disapproval of Gov Walker's attempt at dismantling unions as protests enter their 4th week.

More on why the public employee pension threat is a myth   (sorry, Paul Hatfield).

JoeB, I didn't before, but I now agree with you, the Governor of Wisconsin is putting forth a union destroying bill disguised as budget reform. He is a despicable corporate hack and I hope he and his bill are run out of town as soon as possible.

As an aside-My parents were able to send me to college thanks to my dad's union ATU Local 1555 in San Francisco.

Hey Joe, is that what you consider "breaking news," too?

It's funny how you only write about Wisconsin, provided that the story is something that you can believe in, but you never write about Wisconsin, when things aren't going your way.

Speaking of Michael Moore, isn't it funny how he says that the government should get a larger portion of wealthy peoples' money, yet I don't see him writing out a check to the Treasury Dept to help offset some of the debt.

7:35, Since the protests started, I haven't seen anything that hasn't gone in the right way. If I felt there was a serious threat to the opposition against Walker, I would report on it, but so far, it's all been favorable to the workers and makes the GOP look ridiculous. If you want me to report more extensively on that aspect, I can do that.

Those protestors are paid union stooges. We all support unions but not the greedy public employee unions.

I guess you don't consider 1,800 layoffs TO START to be a bad thing. They laid off administrative staff last week.

Maybe you don't think that's bad, since YOUR job wasn't lost, but it's bad for those 1,800 households.

It should be apparent that statistics, graphs, polls and information can be manipulated to almost any end. After all, if you torture numbers they'll confess to anything. But, when you start to investigatively scratch the surface, ask the hard questions and cross reference sources, you eventually can get to some consistent verifiable facts. The attack on collective bargaining is simply the Wall Streeters trying to get rid of the last remaining political competition for control of this country.

HELLO- a sanitary dept worker who's salary was around 50K, (now remember we're talking WI) saved his vacation and sick pay, was senior so got alot of overtime his last year on the job used it all to up his pay in Madison WI to have a salary of 159K and retired using that amount to up his retirement! COME ON, this is not what the people thought when decisions were made to figure out retirement incomes... Normal everyday citizens thought the retirement would be decided by the annual salary... otherwise they would have freaked out and never allowed it!
