Outtakes from CD 14: "Lets the Campaigning Facts Bomb Away!"
"Campaign time brings out the best in our local politico, unless it has to do with showing up on time to work".
Another bloggin, bombing evening from "zee CD 14 bunker" where the political ordnance are falling, at least on the comment thread here at Mayor Sam.
Great hump day evening from CD 14 where no political half-truth is beyond speculating as we near a election day in March.
Just today, a former employee of once CD 14 Councilman Nick Pacheco, was crying that he was coerced into writing contribution checks to City Council Candidate Rudy Martinez, with the promise that he would be reinbursted. Then consider who provided this exclusive to the LA Weekly? But then the voters of CD 14 might want to ask their councilman why he kept "at-will" former deputy Chief of Staff Henry Casas on the public payroll for six months (at a $50,000 dollar cost) after his past "domestic abuse episode".
Meanwhile in Eagle Rock, a tragic residential fire is causing consternation among neighbors who are claiming that the Eagle Rock Field Office of Councilman Huizar "was and has been unresponsive" to concerns about the tragic plight of the late elderly resident who's was in need of help, only to see his property, and sadly life go up in flames. Now residents fear that "supposed toxic fumes" from the burn property are endangering their neighborhood.
Is a political divorce already in the making between "Jose y Jose"? Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council President Jose Aguilar was noted in yesterday's Daily News taking supposed "political comps" to task for his "unexcused absence". Further, Aguilar was vocal is supporting the actions of the CRA Adelante Advisory Board last evening. But some still question why he has not released a video he has of the LA 32 Neighborhood Council Meeting where Huizar's Chief of Staff Ana Cubas fail to answer the questions of LA 32 Board Members pertaining to the status of the CLARTS Fund. Also, some are wondering if the BHNC will take the lead in planning a CD 14 Candidate Forum for their community?
Are the "rank and file of LAPD" upset with Councilman Huizar's "grading of supposed officer's loyalty"? This may impact a future Police Protective League endorsement in the days ahead.
From the Facebook Page of El Sereno Our Town Magazine Editor Julio Torres (3 and 5) who was the only "perfect score" on Councilman Huizar's infamous "loyalty and influence list. Is the person holding the Huizar sign on the left (figuratively and politically), one Academia Semillas del Pueblo Principal Marcos Aguilar? Thus, can we wonder what would be Team Huizzy's reaction if Walter Moore was photograph with a Rudy Martinez sign?
Your thoughts..............

THE WYVERNWOOD DEAL SMELLS FISHY
Alatorre Home Deal Received Array of Help
Real estate: Associates of investor who sought city pact aided purchase. He and the councilman deny wrongdoing.
December 23, 1997|RICH CONNELL and ROBERT J. LOPEZ | TIMES STAFF WRITERS
The common denominator in these efforts was property investor Samuel S. Mevorach. While he and his friends were helping Alatorre, the councilman was pushing a $91-million city-backed purchase of Mevorach's sprawling rental property, the Wyvernwood Garden Apartments, according to interviews and records.
When contacted by the newspaper, Alatorre and Mevorach failed to respond specifically to questions about their financial and personal ties, except to broadly insist that they have done nothing wrong.
At the time of the assistance, according to Mevorach associates, the councilman was having trouble securing a mortgage for a more spacious home because he was saddled with monthly payments on his condominium, which was worth less than what he owed.
To create an illusion of higher income for Alatorre, Mevorach and two associates produced a fictitious lease on the condo to make the lawmaker a better loan candidate, according to financial records and a key participant.
That participant, property investor Han Huskey, said he became the sham tenant in a plan designed to ensure the councilman's continuing support of the Wyvernwood apartment deal--worth about $30 million to Mevorach.
"Sam Mevorach, my longtime friend, asked me if I could help him [and] his friend Richard Alatorre . . . to set up this lease agreement on the condo," Huskey said. Mevorach, he said, "was in the middle of the transaction on the Wyvernwood. That was the whole reason he wanted to help."
For authenticity, Huskey said he was asked to write a $2,800 check to the councilman, supposedly for the first and last months' rent. Huskey said he was reimbursed in cash, on the spot, by yet another Mevorach associate.
Financial records reviewed by The Times disclose that Alatorre cashed the check the next day, Aug. 15, 1996, but failed to report the payment on his city conflict-of-interest forms.
HUH? THE CITY IS STILL BAILING OUT THIS PIECE OF SHIT PROPERTY? CRA MONEY? HUIZAR????

1997 - Associates of property owner Samuel S. Mevorach helped Alatorre buy a home in Eagle Rock, while Alatorre backed a proposal for the city to provide loans to buy Mevorach's Wyvernwood Garden Apartments, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. The associates of Mevorach fabricated a lease
1998 - Alatorre is the target of an FBI investigation into whether he improperly benefited financially from businessman Samuel S. Mevorach or from Mevorach's associates while the councilman was pushing for the city to buy the Wyvernwood Garden Apartments
1998- MARKET OWNER TIED TO PROBE
The purchaser of the giant Valencia Marketplace is an Arcadia businessman linked to an FBI probe of Los Angeles Councilman Richard Alatorre, documents show. Samuel S. Mevorach, whose name was kept secret when The Newhall Land and Farming Company announced the $111 million sale two weeks ago, was disclosed as the purchaser in a report filed Monday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.Law enforcement sources told the Daily News in January that the FBI was looking into

CD 14 EL SERENO
The businessmen who sold the hotel to a new developer donated $100,000 to a charity Alatorre helped create--the El Sereno Youth Development Corp.--directly from the escrow account on the city-backed transaction, the filing states.
The donation was intended to "alleviate the risk" that City Hall would back away from the deal, the investors' filing asserts. "In exchange for the $100,000 . . . the council member would clear the way for the Hayward project and ensure that any unfavorable reports would not get in the way of passing the deal through the City Council." Attorneys for the investors portray Alatorre as a pivotal player in the deal. C. Randolph Fishburn, an attorney with White & Case, the firm representing bondholders, said the El Sereno youth center donation was "the direct benefit that gave Alatorre the incentive to approve this project at any cost. . . .
Mevorach and one of the hotel sellers, Han Huskey, were involved in Alatorre's purchase of a new Eagle Rock home in 1996, a transaction that helped spark the continuing federal investigation. The Times reported last year that Huskey--at Mevorach's request--and several Mevorach associates assisted the lawmaker in seeking a loan for the home, as well as leasing and later buying a money-losing condominium that Alatorre needed to unload.

El Sereno Youth organization also made substantial outlays in its Alatorre days, particularly for its prime public events. These were invariably staged by an outfit called Eventfully Yours, which charged mightily for its labors. The catering company was staffed by Mrs. Alatorre — then a center board member — and her sister. Although the Yours charges were high, there is no indication that the event operations were ever put out for competitive bid.

Thick pride may have also contributed to his troubles. By 1996, Alatorre’s machinations to funnel government work to Hispanic-run ventures struck many as heavy-handed, as did his connections to the East Los Angeles Community Union, Corboda Corp., and various MTA contractors seeking a piece of a $1-billion rail line through his district. Newly elected Council members didn’t fear him as others once had. In what turned out to be his last campaign, a political novice forced him into a runoff.

Really???
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa did a number on Councilmember Nick Pacheco in that 2003 campaign.
The District Attorney's office could never find any smoking gun or even smoke beyond AV's allegations. No one outside of the AV campaign could corroborate any of the mudslinging from the campaign.
Is there a specific ethical corner that you are referring to? I think the Mayor beat Pacheco ten times more than I think Pacheco beat himself. I gotta give AV credit for that one. He ran a better campaign and Pacheco never recovered from the death of his field general Lloyd Monserratt.
At the end, only AV supporters believe the political attacks against NP after the District Attorney's office could not substantiate any of it.

Do you have some intelligence on what the PPL is going to do?
Its a known fact that both Jose and Rudy went to do their interviews right after the Glassell Park forum.
As much as i hate jose, someone was saying he left in a hurry, that was because he had to meet with PPL afterwards, thats the truth.
Rudy's people told me that they were in the hallway when they saw Jose come out and then Rudy delivered his best performance of the campaign with the PPL members.
They hugged him and thanked him for all his help with the Police department and promised his people that the person who supports public safety the most will get their nod.

Setting aside Rudy's criminal background (documented - multiple convictions), and his inability to keep from (almost) admitting to more in public forums, let's just says that anyone TOO DAMN DUMBB to realize the HUGE ETHICAL RED FLAGS inherent in taking a whole mess of max-donation checks from employees of ONE law firm, where the principal's nickname ALL OVER CD14 is "Tricky Nicky" -- just doesn't deserve support in the election from anyone but blood relatives.
Was Rudy born yesterday? This was one of the HUGE smoking guns against Jimmy Hahn just5 years ago - taking MAX DONATIONS from a whole mess of Fleshman Hillard flacks to get re-elected mayor.
Of course there was something hinky going on, and if Rudy intended all along to self-finance his campaign, why risk the SORDID APPEARANCES for a few thousand more.
Way before Parke Skelton starting bitching about it, common posters here said the same things.

Martinez's mother "blows the whistle" on Huizar, her former employer, keeping perfectly legal lists... no one with the Huizar campaign makes any attempt to publicly demonize her.
Pacheco's employee "blows the whistle" and completely illegal campaign money laundering... and his ex-employer -- Martinez's main-man endorser, mentor, and spiritual (political) father -- trashes his ex-employee like he was yesterday's slop pot.
Yet, all the Huizar haters keep saying it's Huizar's posse that's so vindictive?

"At the end, only AV supporters believe the political attacks against NP after the District Attorney's office could not substantiate any of it."
That may be true, but unfortunately for Nick, AV's supporters outnumbered Pacheco's by about two-to-one (and would have even without the "mudslinging" - he was just never all that popular in CD14 - he barely got elected the first time, and then Huizar's outnumbered Nick's almost three-to-one.
By now, it's probably four-to-one, which doesn't bode well for Rudy M. who's trying to ride the same frayed coattails.
So, you see, it's a numbers game. You don't have to convince EVERYBODY -- two, three, or four times as many as the other guy is way plenty.

When is Rudy M. going to realize that "Tricky Nicky" is a huge drain on whatever credibility he might hope to have?
There's something more "loyal" than smart about both these guys.
Pacheco let the infamous, hated "John Edwards" of Glassell drag him even further down in his subsequent attempts to get back in office, knowing full well that the minute Edwards stepped into a community meeting anywhere in the Northeast, a cold deathly chill went into the air. (He knew, beceause many of Nick's own supporters told him that point-blank).

More to the point, DA's report or not, Villaraigosa's hatchet men wouldn't have been able to "pretend" (if that's what it was), that there was a fire under Pacheco's feet if there wasn't already "smoke" there -- it just wouldn't have stuck.
Not too dissimilar with what Rudy's people are doing now with Huizar's dumb (but not illegal) lists.
If Pacheco hadn't spent 4 years skating near the very edge on so many possibly unethical practices - riding the loophole log down the river - AV wouldn't have been able to capitalize on them, true or not.
Smarter politicians stay SO damn far away from the questionable that they can't even be seen in the same widescreen frame.
Nick put his feet up on questionable practices and then gloated that "technically" this is legal, "I know, I'm an attorney".
But the court of public opinion - he found - gives no "appeals" process once you've been booted out as being dirty.
Maybe Huizar just learned a few years before this election with the lists, where Pacheco never did. Thay may save him.
Being "technically" innocent don't mean "sh*t* once the mud looks like it may belong on you.
Pacheco burned his own self. Puffed up his own cloud of smoke through arrogance.

The extraordinary gift will be given over a ten year period with $5 million going each year to The Partnership for LA Schools, and $4 million to Teach For America-Los Angeles to place corps members in Los Angeles’ highest need schools.
Villaraigosa and the Lundquists have agreed to use the funding on specific programs that will have an immediate impact on improving student achievement in the two families of schools and district-wide.
SOMETHING SMELLS FISHY. VILLARAIGOS KNOWS EDUCATION IS THE GOLD MINE OF FED MONEY.
YOU KNOW. JOBS AND EDUCATION.

Does we supposed that Rudy Rich ever gotted back to David Zahniser with the "forgotted" details of his fourth criminal conviction as an adult - not even close to being a minor?
Supposed he rushed righted over and e-mail DZ back what it was for, becaused he forgotted the arrest, trial, conviction, sentence? NO memory, just slipped his mind.
I supposed not. He am "MEESTER TRAMPS-PARENT" - but not right now, he am busy, now. He be better with that once on the public payroll.
Uh, huh!

TFA IS AN ELITIST ORGANIZATION. I would protest any school bringing in TFA teachers unless that school legitimately could not get anyone else to teach there. And in this economy, that's unlikely. Let the high-class sorority sisters and frat brothers go into their real professions as stock brokers and upper-management, and let the real teachers do the teaching.
Anonymous said:
Teach for America primarily recruits non-teacher rich kids from Ivy League schools who most often do not continue in the teaching profesion once they finish with TFA. If TFA wants to get good teachers in schools, they should focus on hiring/placing people from teacher education programs - people who need those placements and who will continue to be teachers once they're done with TFA. In this way, TFA is nothing more than a band-aid institution where real education is concerned. Their major purpose is to get powerful people (ie. rich kids who will go on to be titans of industry/politics) involved in education. It's like a training ground for lobbyists.
TFA also takes jobs away from new teachers (TFA contracts with school districts then shuts out new hires). TFA is in the business of politicizing education, which is probably not what education needs in the long run. They also thumb their nose at the teaching profession by not using their resources to give *real* teachers extra training and support. It's a sadly misguided organization.

Equal opportunity isn't the problem. There is plenty of oppprtunity out there. The problem is equal tenacity - or lack there of. They need to adopt my work ethic. That means get a job and buy their own Cadillac. Not depend on social assistance or public welfare to do it for them. They need to stand up for themselves.

I'm sure LAPD Officers are happy that Councilman Huizar before knowing any facts and a lawyer to at that criticized and through them under the bus and asked for an FBI investigation because he was protecting the gangsters. There are a couple of videos with Huizar speaking out against LAPD making the rounds.
Lool at this one. Sure doesn't look like he supports police

Isn't that interesting that EVERYbody seems to be using Kaufman?
Check out there client list.

The politicians, the unions, and the business organizations.....all have financial dealings with the same office.
That is convenient...
Huizar's there too...

And why would the LAPD on the Eastside and Central want to rock the boat at this point, when they've got their little "deals" worked out with Huizar. Why is Lt. Paul Vernon doing PR spins for Huizar...Ask the officers about special Olvera street assignments... and don't forget Fiesta Broadway... They sure do seem to make themselves available...
And doesn't it look bad for a Lt. with the LAPD to be selling his consulting services on Linkedin?
Pretty big PR mistake for somebody who claims to be an expert in PR and police ethics.

Okay, Rudy Rich's paid peeps, read up. You're caught IN VIOLATION of LAMC § 49.7.11C of ethics campaign rules, ALREADY!
I asked before nicely, gave you a chance to "pretend" you forgot, but now WHERE ARE THE copies of the Huizar lists that YOU distributed via snailmail to hundreds of people on those lists?
You posted the COVER letter, but not the lists you copied in mass quantities and attached to them as part of your CAMPAIGN LITERATURE(afraid they're incriminating, about how you got 'em?) Don't want them on-record anywhere you can't control? "On advice of counsel (Tricky Nicky")" you think you can loophole out of that because you didn't actually FORMAT the spreadsheets yourself (AH, better look that legal precedent up - if you mass produce something and attach it to your own interpretation of events - like your filed COVER LETTER, it becomes part of a wholly new "publication" that YOU created.
LAW SAYS:
"CAMPAIGN COMMUNICATIONS
A. Filing Requirements
Whenever your committee distributes more than 200 substantially similar pieces of campaign literature within a calendar month (either by mail or by other means), your committee must file a copy electronically with the CEC at the time of distribution. A candidate who is not required to create a committee may submit the literature by mail, personal delivery, or facsimile.... LAMC § 49.7.11C."
Direct V-I-O-L-A-T-I-O-N, Rudy Rich. This process of having to POST ALL you mails, e-mails, etc. is part of the required TRANSPARENCY of political campaigns that protects US, your "constituents".
They HAVE NOT BE PROVIDED to "Ethics". You are NOT being TRANSPARENT - not even complying with the basic city laws.
Acquired through theft and NOW, obscured from the Ethics Commission by playing games.

Hooo ha, and the UN-SUPPORTED just keep getting LESS supported.
Rudy Rich just had to throw away ANOTHER $50,000 of his OWN money into the hold of his RAPIDLY sinking ship sailing unchartered waters in CD14 (total $200K, out of o $260K, from HIS pocket). In 8 months, he's only collected $60K from others (and spent more then TWICE that much).
That ALSO means Alvin "DOH" Parra - four years ago had THREE TIMES as much actual constituent support (and HE only got 29 percent of the final vote). Maybe Rudy won't even go double-digits, if that's the case.
WHY did Rudy Rich have to become $50K LESS rich? Because since the last report, he has ONLY received $200 (dollars, not thousands) - TOTAL, from real people... yup 2 X $100 checks, so far this year (not even ONE donation a week). What's even more embarrassing, only HALF of that HUGE sum came from inside CD14!!!
$100 total raised from CD14, since Dec.

YOU ARE NOT PAYIN ATTENTION ONLY TWO CANDATES AND RUDY MARTINEZ HAS ALREADY LOST. HE CANT RAISE MONEY AND HE HAS VIOLATED CITY ETHICS LAWS WHICH WILL BE HIS FIFTH CRIMINAL CONVICTION AND NOW HE WILL GO TO JAIL FOR LIFE AND HUIZAR WILL VISIT HIM IN PRISON AND SMUGGLE HIM FILES TO SAW THE BARS INSTEAD OF GOING TO CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS. BUT JOSE WILL STILL BE THE COUNCILMEMEBR FOR 36 MORE YEARS OR UNTIL HE DIES.

you do realize that even if Huizar manages to stay out of jail for next four years...he is termed out.
There may not even be a CD14 after redistricting...
You are going the way of Bell and the City of Vernon...
The Federal government will have to step in, and stop you from corrupting the City government.
They already had to do this to the LAPD...
If you don't get rid of Huizar on your own, it is just a matter of time.

That's 100 percent incorrect, mathematically. Under Prop R that passed several years ago, Huizar (and all current CMs), can be elected to three full terms = 12 years.
(This is how CM Alatorre was just able to re-run for a seat he was termed out of after 8 years, some years ago).
Huizar is just this year completing his first of a possible three full terms. (He also completed the final 18 months of Villaraigosa's 2003-07 term, via special election, which doesn't affect his three "full" terms allowed by law.
Huizar can potentially be in office as a City Councilmember until June 30, 2019.
And, realistically, redistricting is likely to be minimal this decade. L.A. changed less between 2000 and 2010, than between 1990 and 2000, on several related factors.
(Your failure to understand these basic aspects of L.A. City government also suggests that anything else you opined later in that same message is just as equally ill-informed, and meaningless).

I think Nick Pacheco was a good councilman. Rough start, but about 2 years into being a councilman his office really got things moving in the district.
Good to see so many people still see him as relevant with all these postings about him.
You know what they say, "good press or bad press doesn't matter, just spell my name right."
I met Pacheco at my home when he was campaigning against the Mayor and he cleared up all the mudslinging items I had read. He was earnest about doing the job, but unfortunately the Mayor took him out.
Whoever wins this election, I hope they are as earnest as Pacheco was about doing the job and getting things done in the community.

Wow, and you believed him - just because he told you it wasn't true?
Maybe he should be a priest, not a politician.
Or a faith healer.

For the person who thinks I don't understand the basics of City government...
Do you know that Council Districts are supposed to follow natural community boundaries such as rivers and freeways?
Do you know that after the the valley tried to break away, that the City council reconfirmed its commitment to follow the City charter and restore the integrity of our communities?
The narrow slice of land taken out of downtown COULD NEVER BE LEGALLY JUSTIFIED. it is nothing but the spoils of war, an event platform to be given away to the likes of Larry Gonzalez and Fiesta Broadway...
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PEOPLE OF CD14.
The Downtown Neighborhood Council refers to this sliver as the giant middle finger....look at a map.
CD 14 is preventing downtown from having any meaningful representation on the City Council.
Yes you are correct, I forgot that Huizar took a portion of Villaraigosa's term. That is an easy mistake to make, since there was no change in power. They both essentially represent the same mafia network.
And by the way *sswipe you don't need to know who I am, but its very dangerous to underestimate your enemy.
Watch "V" for Vendetta...
We all wear the same mask.

Council redistricting is controlled by a small committee.
It is normally done in-house without much public input because THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW THEY YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE YOUR DISTRICT.
The person who says that the City has not changed in the last 10 years, therefore the Council Districts won't change, doesn't know what they are talking about. In other words they are full of crap.
The people can speak up and DEMAND to have their communities united.
Ethnic make-up is only one small characteristic of a community. Neighborhoods are currently cut in half by politicians, and we have let them get away with it. These unnatural divisions are no different than the divisions that lead to several other council changes in the past, such as the creation of Latino districts and African American districts. Ask Alatorre how that's done. Nobody has done more damage to the City than him and his cronies.
And yes if the people of CD 14 can't keep their thugs out of the City Council Chamber, I absolutely believe that the Federal Government will solve your problem for you.

I think you took my comment too literally.
I was implying that in the end, we must have faith that the GOOD people will triumph over the corrupt.
This is accomplished through the joining together of the MANY GOOD people in the community. They have power they don't even know they have.
We will not allow Los Angeles to be run by organized crime!
You should not underestimate US.

That's funny how the mafia works.
A godfather can be ugly as sin but be very slick and powerful.
If he can just survive long enough, he can hide in the shadows and breed a new public persona....
Let's see..
It should probably be somebody who has been abandoned by his father... that would make him more likely to seek the comfort of a gang or a political crime family.
They should look good....Makes it easier to get away with things...plus the godfather can live out his childhood fanatasies...oh to be desired...
And don't forget to slap a fancy college degree on him to make him credible... Not many middle class Californian's get to go Princton though, so that may take some work...
Make Papi proud!
