Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Tuesday

Another story that Council President Eric Garcetti is seriously considering running for Mayor.  Like Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney in Iowa, EGar has gone to Westwood.

When the real Mayor Sam had his TV show, his sidekick was none other than Wally George.  Franklin Avenue has pulled up an old video of Wally's show from back in the early 90s.  Wally was definitely the forerunner of most of the hot boiled cable political talk shows of today.

The Daily News' Mariel Garza sums up elections in Los Angeles.  Most folks who could vote don't pay attention and "the passionate people who run for elective office each year are an inspiring bunch, if occasionally wacky." How could both be true?

The City is still struggling with a medical marijuana policy following a court case.  Just legalize the stuff.

Garcetti maybe "cool" with his use of apple apps and what not.
But he got into office with his dad's connections.
What has he accomplished?
Janice Hahn?
Jim Hahn?
What have they accomplished?

Our recent legacy babies aren't working out so well.

Yet, I know in the end, those in my generation (i am 30) and younger would vote for Garcetti for the same reason they voted for Obama- forget the substance, it's cool to vote for him.

I'd rather have Greuel or even Perry over Garcetti, since Garcetti is president of the Clowncil and has been the leader of helping the DWP, unions, and special interests destroy our city.

Here's the big question: If Garcetti wins, will he demand that his wife be referred to as "First Partner of the City of LA"?

All joking aside, this awkward gender-neutral talk is symptomatic of BIG problems. No dude who loves and respects his wife calls her a "partner". Steer clear of Garcetti, people. Villar is bad enough. The last thing we need next is a guy amped up on estrogen with childhood hangups, daddy issues -- Jesus, who knows what else?

An interesting story would be for you to say how many times is enough for the "CLARKS" (sic) story?

I'm neither a fan of Huizar or Martinez. However, based on the number of posts on your blog about it, one would think it's the only story on the planet.

"Engregiously" yours,

Garcetti will be no better than Villaraigosa. Plus he will bring an extra thick dose of Pelosi style liberalism.

How has that been working out for LA with Villaraigosa?

You have been warned.

Based on WHAT?

She contributed to the mess we currently have.

The only solution is someone from outside of City Hall, a la DICK Riordan.

Someone should tell Garcetti to worry about jobs and not guns.

Fed Labor stats on regional employment just came out, LA-LB-Glendale unemployment now 13%.
Up from 12.8 in Nov, 12.6 in October.

Guaranteed, by 2015, he will come outta the closet. Just like Higby will. Except in Higby's case, it's because he can't bag a babe.

6:31&7:17am... Who we need as a mayor is someone like a Rudy Giuliani who could come in, be blunt, be forceful and get things done and chance the city.
Like LA, the Mayor in NYC had little control. Giuliani changed that. A lot of people didn't like him and it took him 2-3 years to a show a difference.
Giuliani is a blow hard and a dick, but he kept people accountable.
Chick is not the person I am looking for.
I would take Nancy Grace over Laura Chick.

Mayor Sam,

Can you please do an update on Zuma Dogg's claim against the city?

I believe that anyone who thinks the city prevented him from earning a living is crazy.

I have personally offered him a job at my family's commercial printing warehouse. He didn't want it.

Zuma Dogg is a PROLIFIC blogger, and has contributed to at least NINE blogs SIMULTANEOUSLY, and developed that goofy Human Awareness Training program, which tanked.

That is a LOT of productivity for a guy who claims to be disabled.

It should be amusing to watch three, four or however many City Council Members run for Mayor trying to distinguish themselves from one another, and distance themselves from the state the City's in.

Let's see, you all voted the same way WHAT percent of the time? Ninety-nine? Hmmm.... And the policies on which you agreed 99% of the time did WHAT to this city?

Garcetti for Mayor? Oh, brother. . . Here we go again. Watch for Garcetti to start identifying himself as Latino because his mom is 1/16th Mexican or some bullshit. And he probably has a Jewish aunt, too. Right? I mean, every Democrat has a Jewish aunt when elections come around. What else? Will he speak "white" west of the 405 and "black" south of the 10? Uggggh. Shoot me now.

7:48a,

That was really nice of you to offer Zuma Dogg a job.

I am not surprised that he turned it down. He is someone who wants to be handed things in life, like the apartment he is getting for free. He clearly wanted a job from Trutanich, and now that he didn't get it, is attacking Tru. I admire Tru for this.

And I definitely agree that zd is not disabled. He is productive as all heck, with his multiple websites and Humane Awareness Training.

Zuma would have done well if he studied harder in school, and went into a good law school program rather than radio.

I think he would have been a good attorney, but he didn't want to apply himself to studies. Radio was and is a dying industry.

I personally feel bad for zuma dogg, but he does not deserve a settlement of any kind. He is not disabled.

"Anonymous" is such a bold person! (especially since he can't even create a fake name to use). First he tells us that Garcetti has "daddy issues"---how does HE know that? Then he says Garcetti is secretly gay and his marriage is a sham. Again, where is his proof and what are his sources? This is what gives blogging a bad name and causes libel lawsuits. A Nobody like Anonymous fabricates stupid "rumors" claiming to have inside knowledge about certain people. And it's all b.s.

Sorry to tell you, 8:33, but your listing your name only as "Patricia" means that you're essentially anonymous too.

Anyways I am writing to agree with the person who says that Zuma would have better served himself had he went to school to study political science & law. Being a goofy radio guy with that really silly radio voice is the reason why people don't respect him.

But it's mostly true that he is hardly disabled. I don't recall ever seeing anyone as prolific as him on the blogs. He should have applied himself more to his studies when he was in school.

Up front, I wanna say that I enjoy reading zuma dogg, but beyond that he is anything but disabled, what with running all of those blogs, and coming to city council for years on end. He is trying to "get paid" from us for doing his time in city council. He has said as much, that it is a job, but unfortunately for him, Trutanich didn't give him the job he thinks he is entitled do. A funny guy, a bright guy, but not disabled.

Your comments about how CMs might distinguish themselves, or not, shows you're a true political hack, but not an actual, engaged citizen of Los Angeles.

Beyond mostly being liberal democrats, and stuck on liberal policies for the city as a whole (and since the next several mayors of L.A. will be liberal dems -- that's a nonissue), they are very different in most other aspects of their work as councilmembers.

How they distinguish themselves and what they'll have to hang their hats on is what happens outide the council chambers -- how they deal with the districts needs and their own constituents. That already transmits to other areas of the city, as people who do more than watch Ch. 35 reruns look for certain ones to rise above the others.

It's not all about what happens a couple hours on Tues, Wed, and Friday; that's an incredibly shallow and uninformed comment to make, and shows very limited knowledge of where L.A.'s leaders make their marks.

LOST Angeles Need to Set Precedent Eric Garcetti should NOT run for mayor. As council president he has NOT been able to control the council to be at chambers at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The LOST Angeles council habitually violates their own council rules. While Garcetti fails to maintain control from 14 councilmembers, he definately will NOT be able to manage 4 million people in LA.

Jeez, WW, you are SO thin-skinned.
(And, apparently obsessed with former Mousketeers).

Well, everyone who can't get elected to political office should have some hobby to keep them busy.

That was a perfectly non-sycophantic observation about how City politics in L.A. is much more complex than what plays out on 35. If CC agendas told the whole story of L.A.s elected officials, Bitter Bernie Parks would probably have been elected mayor, instead.

I don't think Zuma Dogg's settlement has to do with his disability.

It is because the City f'ed up with the merchants (like he was) in Venice.

Apparently, they are about to do the same dang thing that the court killed them on in the Zuma-Dowd-Hunt case with the medical marijuana shops.

The Need for Criminal Investigations:

The time has arrived for a criminal fraud investigation into the entire deal(s) with respect to 1601 N Vine.

There are many additional questions with The Property including but not limited to who owned The Property. While the CRA/LA advises the Council that the seller was the Developer (Hal Katersky, Dana Arnold, Pacifica Ventures), the CRA/LA advised KMA that it purchased the property from Steve Ullman. As councilmembers know, there had been serious questions about the propriety of the sale/purchase and the appraisal for the Ullman "Capitol Records" parking lot. Thus, it appears that CRA/LA and CD #13 falsely represented to the Council in 2006 who was the real seller of 1601 N. Vine to CRA/LA.
