Mid-Day Briefs on the Los Angeles Scene for Thursday

" Sorry Jose, but Antonio taught me about throwing bad political baggage under the bus"

"Timesheets? Payroll registers? Payroll documents? Where will these documents lead us next in the saga of CLARTSgate?"
The documents are coming!
City of Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel had a "fleeting Laura Chick moment" and found the political will to do the right thing. Thus, we are nearing the moment when all will have the ability to discern CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar's usage of the funds bequested to his councilmatic fiefdom via the CLARTS Fund.
Timing, or should we say political timing, is paramount when documents that paint a politico in a bad light, are made public. And tomorrow may be the biggest "Bad News Friday" in Councilman Jose Huizar's "enable by Papi Antonio political career".
What fiscal expenditures, may we find when the documents requested by CD 14 City Council Candidate Rudy Martinez become public? If one were to judge from just the verbiage use by Chief Deputy Controller Claire Bartels in her email response, Councilman Huizar's idea of community amenities was paying "staff" and for what work? Will surely spark renew discussions on Councilman Huizar's usage of this community amenities fund.
If the documents show that Councilman Huizar did use the majority of the CLARTS Fund transfer to his "council office account" for staff salaries, or were dispensed base upon political loyalty and influence. One should surely expect a CD 14 CLARTSgate backlash that may whip Huizar from office in March.
OTHER NEWS:
** PENSION REFORM: Seems as the likes of LA Times Sacramento Columnist George Skelton chugs down the political meme of Governor Moonbeam II budget proposal, or City Hall press observers muse on the leasing of the City of Los Angeles Parking Facilities, lone voices of budgetary reason are under attack such as City Councilman Bernard Parks. Parks understands that true PENSION REFORM, will bring a permanent resolution to the budgetary crisis that ails Los Angeles and elsewhere. Thus, as a reward for expressing the budgetary truth, the likes of SEIU and IBEW have targeted Parks for defeat in March.
** Meanwhile, back to the subject of selling parking structures, the City Council did what comes naturally to politicos under pressure, they retreated to close session to approve the privatization of the city's parking lots.
** The "WWG" aka Kevin Roderick had a regressive moment of journalistic jealousy the last PM. He reports and bemoans how a ex editor of a daily newspaper, who pens "angry rhetoric", could be the recipient of a front page weekly column. That person is Ron Kaye and we offer props on his new weekly gig for the LA Times owned, (Ouch! To the WWG's ego) Sunday combine of the Burbank Ledger/Glendale News Press. Story suggestion Ron, write about the local "Infant Assemblyman".
** Trumpets please! the City of Los Angeles met its 2010 renewable energy goal of drawing 20% of its energy from renewable sources. And somewhere the likes of Art Swiller and S. David Freeman are all smiles as they reach for their respective wallets.
** Lastly, Memo to Parke, remember this phrase? "Don't do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you", especially in the political world? Seems like yesterday that some legal goon was knocking at a certain blogger's place of employment with a "cease and desist letter". Now according to the City Maven, the Oak Hill resident progressive political consultant was issued "Cease and Desist Papers" of his own by former CD 14 Councilman Nick Pacheco. (pause with me as I LMAO!).
Since you latest political client does not have a record of success for you to morph, distort or embellish. all that is left is to attack and insinuate about your client's former close friend. Thus, when your attacks and empty insinuations near the boundaries of slander, bam! the papers are served. Care to comment?
Your thoughts..............

Red Spot, can you use different photos on consecutive days? It's confusing and makes me, and probably makes others, think we already read it.

The Oak Hill resident progressive political consultant was issued "Cease and Desist Papers"...

You just can't EVER getted yer facts strait, cin you Red Scott?

Parque has never lived in "Oak Hill" in fact he vigorously fought it's development when it moved in near his home in Monterey Hills.

He also charged that Pacheco didn't help in the fight enough, which is part of the old bad blood still flowing through local campaigns around here.

The real Oak Hill people will choke on their lunches when they see that.

Not only that (keep up, RS), Skelton reportedly moved out of that neighborhood years ago, and now lives in the hills above Eagle Rock, or Mt. Washington, somewhere.

Makes on wonder if you have any facts right on this blog.

Reed Sput, just exactly who do you think runs the programs that amenities like CLARKS pay for?

CLART-fairies?

RECYCLE-gnomes?

Volunteers (with no understanding of City procedures)?

Should the staff and administrative time it takes to keep these things moving, get City approvals, meet and plan with communities involved, pull permits, etc. etc. etc., come out of already reduced staff hours -- to the detriment of other district programs not related to CLARKS bars?

I can tell you exactly what the Controller's office will find. Some admin and staff time was charged to CLARTS funds, in KEEPING WITH ACCEPTED CITY PROJECT FUNDING POLICIES.

It will be your "YOU CAN'T SERVE ALCOHOL AT PARK FACILITIES" ... "oh, you can????"
rant, all over again.

(Then what will you will all your waking hours? What will you attack next?)

Just a few more days and you'll have more egg on your face than a guy who crashed into a McDonalds kitchen during the breakfast hour.

Wrong-way Red Spot, strikes again.

I can't wait!

Excellent move by Nick. Sue Parke and Trujillo. I'm sure all of the candidates that Parke has tainted with unfounded accusations would love to testify. Is Nick still on speaking terms with Hahn?

Sue Parke, he's got the funds for a hefty award. America needs to see the inner workings of how consultants destroy true community leaders. Espcially in this time and age, the public needs to know exactly where such vitriol originates.

Red Spot... if you were forced to make a choice and the were your ONLY options, no other options, which would select:
1. Huizar loses. Which means no 2nd term, no shot at mayor, no shot a congressional seat, just a shot at being a lobbyist for harvey englander or mayer brown
OR
2. Gatto getting indicted for perjury and mail fraud because he doesn't live in his district, losing his seat, and his political career. But he lives at home with mommy (supposedly) and 4 other people in a 3 bedroom house, so it's not like he'll end up on the streets with a wife and kid.

I would say #2 would be my first choice.
What say you?

Main difference between Rudy Rich and elected official Huizar at tonight's little debate...

Huizar has something else to do, and somewhere else to be. He has invites to speak and appear all over the district.

Rudy was at the only place in town that wanted him tonight. He can show up early, stay late, schmooze with a couple dozen people like they were each going to be the deciding vote in March.

Where else is he gonna go?

Rudy Rich shot himself in the foot, too. Started rambling about all his past crimes (without even being asked), confessing to things no one in the room knew about (other than campaign staff) and that no one has EVEN accused him of.

It's one thing to not be a "career politician" -- it's another to not know how to keep from shooting yourself in the foot.

Politically, Rudy was a dead dog before. After a few more debates, and his rambling confessions, he'll be a dead dog with a limp (from a self-inflicted gunshot wound).

Now his SPINNERS will whine "he's just being honest."

I've got a bunion on my right foot, too. . . but unless you're planning on washing my tootsies, I REALLY don't need to tell you about it, do I?

TMI, TMI, TMI!

Better for Rudy to put it out there and take the wind out of Huizar's releasing it in a fancy color brochure to every address in the district.

@10:20 Since the Mayor's political success has highlighted his criminal and challenging past many new candidates think they will get votes by talking about their past.

They think everybody loves a story of perseverance and so it is just a subjective viewpoint that determines what is perseverance and what is "tmi".

Ultimately you have decided it is "tmi" and you may be right, but the sob story pasts used by the Mayor have changed Latino politics.

Sob stories like the Mayor's gets you votes and so everyone will be trotting out there version.

Ultimately, each voter will decide if it is "tmi" or an "overcoming the odds" tale worthy of respect.

Some think, "it worked for Antonio, why not me."

I wasn't there tonight but let's see what happens down the road.

Um, 11:10

Am I missing something here? Maybe it's past your bedtime.

Huizar still could, if he wanted to, release it "it in a fancy color brochure to every address in the district."

It's not like most people have now suddenly heard it. But for the few people who did -- to have Rudy stutteringly, stammeringly being defensive about something NO ONE ASKED ABOUT, well, I think Shakespeare said it best when he wrote:

"Dude, someone's protesting WAY too much (methinks)!"

Yeah, let's promote that "I overcame my own past stupity and lack of good judgement" path to success, because it's so much more productive for society as a whole, than the alternative.

Why aim for good role models who obey the law, study hard, excel in school, get multiple degrees and then return to serve the community.

That's the LAST message we want to send to the youth of our City, because then more and more of them will stay in school -- when we really need to have less aspire to go to college (c'mon, we can't affpord to send them anyway).

Kids, model yourself after the slackers and sloughers and dropouts that (1 in every 1,000)someday finally get their act together.

What's better for our City anyway -- to elect people with advanced education in public affairs and urban planning or find guys who know how to hire a short order cook, and boss day-laborers around.

It's obvious isn't it?

RUDY, RUDY, RUDY, (aim low, and be disappointed less)!

What exactly has Huizar done to advance urban planning and public affairs ? In my neighborhood we have illegal vendors setting up barbeques on their front lawns, on sidewalks and even on the property of greasy, filthy tire shops. At least one per block on York Blvd. on nice evenings.

You need an advanced degree for that? Even Rudy has sense enough to know you need a building.

12:03. I like the way you denounce the Antonio Villaraigosa model. I am also not a fan of that model.

I will say that Gloria Molina also beat a well educated Latino in art Torres for Supervisor.

In a nutshell you would have voted for Becerra and Hahn over Villaraigosa; Torres over Molina.

I FOR ONE TRIED TO GET DWP, DENNIS ZINE AND OTHERS INVOLVED IN THE RECENT DWP FIELD REPORT TO LOOK AT ALTERNATIVES NOT DISCUSSED BY THEM WHICH IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE WILL SAVE YOU PERSONALLY THOUSANDS PER YEAR ON ENERGY AND ENABLE DWP TO SELL POWER TO OTHER STATES AKA COUNTRIES. DWP ALREADY HAS A CONTRACT WITH QUALLION TO MAKE STORAGE BATTERIES TO STORE ENERGY THIS IS BUT ONE EXAMPLE HOW THEY WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE MONEY WITHOUT HIRTING HOMEOWNERS. THE PLAN WOULD ENABLE YOU TO HAVE POWER AT YOUR HOME WHEN YOUR NEIGHBOR LOSES THEIR'S ANOTHER WORDS NO MORE BROWNOUTS OR BLACKOUTS. THE DWP WANTS TO RAISE YOUR BILL UP TO 25% TO PAY FOR ALL THE NEW ENERGY THEY THINK THEY CAN SUPPLY. THEY ARE HAVING A HARD TIME PROVIDING NOW ADD IN ALL THE NEW DEVELOPMENT AND YOU SEE THEY WON'T MEET THAT GOAL. MY WAY WILL AT NO ADTIONAL COST TO YOU AND IT IS GREEN. THIS IS WHY THIS CITY IS GOING BACKWORDS FAST, FIRST THEY DON'T LISTEN, THEN THEY DON'T ACT PROPERLY. TOO MANY KNOW IT ALL'S. TALK AND LISTENING IS CHEAP AND CAN BE VERY PROFITABLE FOR THOUGH'S WHO LISTEN.
