Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday

We teased it last night; Fox 11's John Schwada reports that a controversy is brewing over Mayor Villaraigosa has accepted thousands of dollars in gifts from AEG such as free tickets to events at the Staples Center  but failed to report these items on required ethics filings.  Villaraigosa told Schwada that these are not gifts because he is conducting "official duties" when he attends these events.  That must have been the purpose of the Mayor's visit to a Sherman Oaks condo with vino and pollo in hand.

Big Neighborhood Council elections happen tonight across the South San Fernando Valley.  While most of the races are ho-hum the biggest battle is in Studio City where recently defrocked panel member Michael McCue will seek to return to his seat while hot-under-the-collar stakeholders will seek to get enough votes to deny dangerous enemy of freedom and NIMBY-crite Lisa Sarkin re-election to her throne.  Stay tuned; unfortunately it takes days to get results of these elections.

Big write up in the LA Weekly on City Clowncil Member Janice Hahn who is running for the Democratic nomination for California Lt Governor against San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.  The consensus appears to be that most folks count Hahn as being dumb as a doorknob though some constituents are satisfied with her. Probably doesn't help that her two biggest fans, as noted in the Weekly, are Tom LaBonge and Bill Rosendahl.

The other day I said that Caroline Kennedy was probably too damn stupid to be a United States Senator, likely the dimmest bulb in the Kennedy family but I forgot about one of her cousins. That would be Robert Sargent "Bobby" Shriver, the brother in law to Governor Kennedy Republican himself.  Now the Mayor of Santa Monica, Bobby, who generally sits in meetings playing with his mane of hair, wants to import Santa Monica's homeless to West LA.  Wonder what the Westside White Guy will think of that?

It's Thursday morning and Phil Jennerjahn is still a conniving, self serving liar.

Phil Jennerjahn wrote the other day that he "hopes David Hernandez is distributing the petitions."

Isn't he your partner in this? Why don't you KNOW if he's distributing the petitions? Do you know if Walter is?

Do you have any communication with them?

It's 7 weeks into the recall, and you need 2,000 VALID signatures per day. How many do you have? You can round it off to the nearest 10,000 so those sneaky SOBs in city hall won't know.

You are a complete moron, Phil, for promising to "FOCUS ON THE RECALL" but still SQUANDER your blogging time on Karen Bass, Michelle Bachmann, and every thing else not related to the recall.

This will follow you around wherever you live for many years.

The hypocrisy of phil jennerjahn is in full swing this morning!

He wrote "
As I mentioned before in an earlier blog, the Studio City Neighborhood Council recently, in a fit of temper, voted out Michael McCue, a member who had previously been elected to this organization by the voting public.

In my opinion, this makes the SCNC a lawless, rogue organization."

PHIL, DO YOU SEE THE IRONY HERE? ALL YOUR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ACTIONS ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL APPLY TO WHAT YOU "SAID" YOU WERE GOING TO DO TO THE MAYOR. I HATE VILLARAIGOSA, BUT HE WAS "elected to this organization by the voting public"

YOUR STUPID RECALL, BY YOUR OWN MEASURE, MAKES YOU A "LAWLESS ROGUE"

HOW ABOUT A RESPONSE?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NC AND YOU?

"Anytime that someone decides that they are going to overturn the will of the voters and reverse the results of a free election, they are revealing their true tyrannical nature. They are displaying their inner love of despotism."- Phony Phil
on the SCNC ousting of McCue

i wouldnt hold out hope for a detailed response from phil.

all he ever does is ignore valid questions or issue a one sentence "oh yeah, i'll show ya" comment.

he buries his head in the sand after painting himself into yet another corner. his campaign slogan should be "I'm painted into the corner and covered with sand"

Good Morning Mary Cummins!

As to my supposed hypocrisy? Mayor Villaraigosa was elected with less than 10% of the registered voters showing up to the polls to support him. And this was after he had four years in power. Not impressive.

Certainly not the will of the voters in any way, shape or form. 83% chose not to vote. Unclear what their opinion really is.

If the Recall is successful, we will have the signatures of 15% of the voters asking the city clerks office for a chance to remove him.
Democracy in action. He can still campaign to save his job...and he will. Absolutely fair.

RecallCityHall.org is raising money for a bulk mailing campaign to hit over 100,000 voters with a petition and instructions. David Hernandez is contacting Arizona Chambers of Commerce to raise money.

Keep running your yapper and spewing your hatred. You have become a cartoon.

Phil, you are OBFUSCATING what she asked, assuming it's her.

Villaraigosa was ELECTED in a legal way. If people CHOSE to not vote, that's the way it goes.

The same applies to the SCNC.

If you call it wrong for one, it's wrong for the other. Your lack of logic is astounding. The "opinion" of those who did not vote is CLEAR. They didn't care to vote and were okay to let those who did vote make the choice.

Janice Hahn is the typical politician of the current day. Just an opportunist, no clear passion, no desire to lead a community to make it better. Her father, from everything I’ve read, was a leader, and passionate, and everyone didn’t agree with him, but he fought for what he believed in.
Newsom maybe a wacko, but at least he’s passionate about some things (sanctuary city and gay marriage) and takes the lead.
I’d rather have someone I completely disagree with but who is passionate and willing to live or die (politically career wise) with their stance.
But in Hahn’s defense, there are no leaders in Clowncil. They’re all puppets.

Phil Jenner… you’re the same as Hahn. Who are you? What have you done in the past as a leader to make the community you live in better? How have you taken the lead?
BS Recall efforts don’t count.

Mike Gatto is another. What have you done? Working for a congressman and being a political monkey isn’t being a leader.
The other, more senior, congressman from the valley, Howard Berman tapped his lap monkey, Blumenfield, to be a state assembly member in 08 and he won.
Blumenfield hadn’t accomplished anything in life either.

Why are voters sheeps? Or are my standards too high?
