Is Judy Price a dangerous Enemy of Freedom?
I am hearing from candidate Frank Sheftel about last nights public/private forum in Valley Glen. It seems that Judy Price, President of the Valley Glen Neighborhood Association, was acting more like an ACORN-like activist thug than a President when she arrived at the forum accompanied by her own private security.
What did she think she was going to do? Physically remove some of the candidates for City Council from the event? Yeah. That would have been great publicity for her boy, Krekorian.
Luckily, she conferred with Christopher Alan and a huge and ugly scene was avoided when Alan showed he had a more level head and even temperament. (Price had been letting the other candidates know they were not welcome...even though she had been circulating emails stating that "Everyone was invited" !)
An ugly scene and bad publicity was avoided when the other candidates were allowed to enter the Parish.
Price wasn't too thrilled about it. CD 2 candidate David Saltsburg/Zuma Dogg wrote about her on his blog...
"Judy was there and snarled as she walked past us, kind of like in Junior High."
Valley Glen Neighborhood Association members need to seriously reconsider their leadership.
And members of the public should be leery of any invites from Price in the future.

I've got a bulletin for you Phil.
The venue is a private location. Granted, it might be a non-profit, but you aren't ENTITLED to enter and people aren't ENTITLED to participate in events inside of it.
It is not a public venue.
But I wouldn't expect you to want logic and the law to interfere with your noodlebrained thinking. Also, that woman is a private citizen. You have no more a right to participate in her private events than you have to attend a dinner party at her home.
Try to not look like an idiot 7 days a week.
The real story here is that besides the candidates and their family/friends, there were only about 15 people. And the mic didn't work. HUGE power-event.
Phil where in the Bill of Rights does any of us, let alone an ingrate like Zooma Dogg, have a right to enter private premises, even if it is a church?
Please be SPECIFIC about where he has this right or where this person is obligated to grant entry to him!

The other element in this picuture is that the parish allowed the use of the property and the spirit of fairness and brotherhood were absent on the part of the user.
The parish probably assumed all was on the up-and-up but they have a responsibility in how their property was used and putting them into the position as an accomplice to this level of action was unfair on the part of whoever arranged it.
It was good that it worked out and access was provided. NC should not be kingdoms.

The speakers at the event are seen in BIG BOLD LETTERS: "The Top 3 Candidates."
But for your reference, there is no law that requires FAIRNESS in a community event. If you disagree, where is this in the Bill of Rights. Life is unfair. Deal with it.
Personally I applaud this person for trying to focus on the three leading and most likely candidates because as the other commenter wrote, Zuma Dogg is an INGRATE. You get what you give in this life, and Zuma Dogg deals in rude, obnoxious behavior.
Cry me a river if he wasn't an esteemed guest of someone who knows about Zuma's obnoxious behavior already.
This specifically says it's a Neighborhood ASSOCIATION not an NC/ Council, so it's not a city-sponsored or paid for group. And it's absurd to say the church o any venue for rent/ lease, for money or for free by a member, has any obligation or even right to supervise HOW a meeting/event is run. Sounds like the lady had good reason to fear Zuma Dogg would show and disrupt the event, based on his behavior elsewhere. Once again, Zuma Dogg ruins it for everyone.

Excuse me people!! The invite has the city seal and and the NC logo on it and it clearly says Everyone Invited. When the candiates asked to come , they were told it's a private event. And told not to show up. But it went out to the public with a city seal and said Everyone Invited, so they came. Good for them. They deserve to be commended for standing up to the bulllys.
What about the title of the event do you not understand, Phil?

The person or people sponsoring the event, giving it a title, et al, have no obligation to make it anything other than whatever the heck it is that they want.

Sounds like the actions of desparate candidates who are trying to gain some last minute traction through controversy unrelated to any issues. Sorry Frank Shefftel and Zuma Dogg, it's not going to fly. Since you've had no real message or campaign platform that sticks, guess you'll have to settle for bashing local community leaders. It speaks to why neither of you is fit to hold public office. If you don't treat the locals and volunteers like Judy Price better, how can we expect you to be respectful and effective on City Council? (By the way, the accompanying notice on Jennerjerks article was for the Greater Valley Glen Council, not the Valley Glen Neighborhood Asssociation which Price is President of) Guess Jennerjerk doesn't know how to fact check or believes everything that his buddy, Shefftel says. Ok first off Phil please learn how to format your posts this thing is spreading all over the phase.
I agree that a private event is a private event. While I think it makes sense to invite all candidates as all but one of the forums did, an organization has the right to free association Phil, even Glen Beck would tell you that!
I also don't think Judy deserves the beating she's getting from Sheftel and Phil. She's a nice lady who works hard for her community.
Though I do agree Judy MAY have made one mistake if the flyer Phil posts is accurate.
If the event had an NC logo on it then it implies it was an NC event. If it was an NC event it would need to be approved by the board at a regular or specially called per the Brown act meeting and would have to include all candidates.
This was why my NC could not host a forum because of the timing of the election and our meeting being dark in August - no way to approve a forum.
There would be another issue if the event WAS NOT approved by the NC and the NC logo was used giving the false impression it was an NC even.
If either of those are true, then there is a problem.
But if the event was sponsored by the HOA and the NC was not involved, yea, they can decide who shows up whether one finds it fair or not.
See folks what happens when you think logically!
An Association is NOT a city organization like an NC, so it had the right to invite whoever it wanted, like VICA, any business or homeowner group, etc.
BUT IF -- and this is IF -- the organizers used a City Seal or other insignia or wording to make it look like a city event, they confused the issue and that is not appropriate. Neither Price nor anyone should be using their NC (vs. NA) title IF in fact she's also on the NC Board, but many such officers do -- for example in CD5 for the City Attorney election Trutanich supporters did in order to claim credibility to the general public which had never heard of them, that they were some city-level elected representatives with clout at city hall. This is a deliberate confusion which makes it more difficult for NC members who follow the rules and carefully use ONLY their NA or HOA titles.
In any case, the heading of this thread is ridiculous: calling this woman "A dangerous Enemy of Freedom" by name, really, Phil, you make yourself look ridiculous. When only 15 people showed and she doesn't seem to have had much influence in the overall election, and as far as we know, hasn't done anything ELSE that shows a pattern of behavior.
By the way Phil I hardly find Judy dangerous. At worst she bungled. Tone down the rhetoric man!

For someone who loves throwing out the socialist/communist accusations, phil doesn't recognize that it's the free United States where one can choose whom to invite to an event and who to not invite.
On the flip side, this woman did nothing to keep out the people who she didn't want to attend. That's graciousness that phil can't comprehend.
Higby is right to question the invitation. It was not what was sent out by Price. The one I received from her was as President of the Valley Glen Neighborhood Association. Unlike the council e-mail I also received, it did not have a logo or reference to "everyone invited". Hers did not inply it was a neighborhood associaton event. The council one was misleading with their logo. If one wants to question that, it should be directed at the council president, not Price.
According to DONE and the City Attorney (take that how you wish) an NC can NOT sponsor a candidates' forum, event, meet and greet, etc. without inviting all candidates. It also has to be approved at a regular or special board meeting that the public has been noticed on.
So again, the question is was this actually an NC event or promoted as being.
Anyway since they did let everyone in which sounded like a crowd smaller than USC's starting line up there is no issue.
Again, at worst, Judy bungled. If that. We all make mistakes.
If Sheftel is promoting this anti-Judy thing with Phil at this last minute that's a stupid move. There's too many voters in Valley Glen and Valley Village who respect Judy.
But then I don't think Sheftel nor Mary Benson protested when they were included in the VICA "forum" and the others weren't. At least I didn't hear of that.
By the way Mmmary has gone delusional again. She is simultaneously trying to post both pro and anti Phil comments.
And let me say even though I don't care for the headline, tone and formatting of this article Phil is a good man, a good friend and has done the BEST job of covering the CD2 race out there. We all make mistakes.

If the Greater Valley Glen Council is a Certified Neighborhood Council, a stakeholder should file a grievance directly with the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment and also the City Ethics commission since Board members of NC's are elected (or appointed officials). It was blatantly wrong to mention 3 out of 7 candidates even if "all were invited."
And NC's are supposed to be non-partisan and that is why they should treat all 10 candidates equally if the host a candidate's meet and greet.
How could Judy have bungled? She's not the President of the council. She had nothing to do with sending that particular invitation. Neither invitation indicated it was their organization's event. Both said "Spondored by Christopher and Dorian Alan". If anyone bungled, though, it was the neighborhood council president for using their council logo on it. Price didn't use her organization logo.
An important legal question: Was the GVGC logo and more importantly the City of LA Seal used on any of the event promotions? Even though the event fizzled out, it is still important to hold both the City Council, Mayor, and Neighborhood Councils accountable under the law. Just look at the bylaws of GVGC regarding using the City of LA Seal/Logo.
Red Spot in CD 14, go meddle someplace else. The only stooge(s) here are the Three Stooges + one: Phil Jennerjahn, Zuma Dogg, Frank Shefftel and you.
Why are Kevin James and Walter Moore sponsoring Mmmary for Council? Are they not aware of how she scammed the city for a settlement?

Sorry I couldn't respond faster. Much to Walter Moores dismay, I was actually working all day. I wrote this in the morning as I left for work and just got home a little bit ago.
To cover my critics....
1) As a Conservative, I absolutely believe in the freedom to associate. If Judy and her developer buddies wanted a private function...do it at someones home or at a hotel ballroom or something. Don't send out emails to other councils and ask them to invite others.
2) As a Catholic, I am offended that this whole charade went off in a Catholic facility. St. Jane allowed the use of their facilities by people who acted in a manner that is not reflective of our faith.
3) Only 15 people showed up, so it was a disaster anyway. They deserve that.
4) I somehow owe Judy Price an apology? Dream on. Not going to happen. Judy was in the wrong here. She sent out emails hoping to get people to show up and listen to and vote for Paul Krekorian.
HER IDEA of freedom was to pack St. Janes with uninformed, gullible voters and have them listen to 30 minutes of non-stop propaganda from a budget-destroying Socialist.
The REALITY of freedom means that when you invite "everybody" certain undesirables might show up... even people who don't like Krekorian, or like me...who don't agree with his political ideologies.
That didn't sit so well with Judy. Then when other candidates made it clear they were coming, Judy called out her private security forces with the express intention of throwing people out on their ear.
Resorting to threats and force is typical of people of her political identification. Judy is what I have come to affectionately refer to as a "freedom-hating liberal" . Like most liberals, she will tell you she is all in favor of freedom -- but only as long as things go her way. But when they don't...it always ends up with threats and force...which is the way that all liberal ideologies end up.
5) Frank said that Tamar stood up and introduced the other candidates who were not allowed to speak. Classy move Tamar. She keeps moving up my list.
6) I am still supporting my three friends in this race. Joe, David, and Frank. I hope one of them makes the runoff.
