The problem with Jasmyne Cannick, identity politics, and the culture war
Labels: culture war, identity politics, jasmyne cannick, No On Prop 8
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

I beg of you to change that photo, and prove to us that that is what you currently look like. Show us something RECENT

You know. I think this is hysterical. You guys criticized Haikula for being too young. Now by accusing me of using an old photo, you're criticizing me for what? Being too OLD?
I'm 30 years old. That photo was taken a few months ago - I'd say that's pretty recent. How old did you THINK I was?
And if you want more pics of me, try my Facebook or Myspace. I'm a pundit, not a model so I think I'm allowed to be stingy with photos.
Now let's talk about the culture war. Some people are racist. Some homophobic. Some are ageist and sexist... like you actually. Thank you for the demonstration! :)

I guess no one wants to talk about the culture war, "Ms. Pundit."
Where exactly are you paid to be a pundit? Or are you a pundit like all of us are, here on a stupid blog.

Honest question: are you a sociopath? I only ask because most stalkers are.

Higby,
I think your blog deserves a thread just on the medical marijuana hardship applications.
For starters:
Huizar takes on this issue because some of his white nimby Eagle Rock constituents "just discovered" that there were 15 dispensaires in thier community. These dispensaries pose no threat and in fact bring additional clients to the Eagle Rock community and businesses - "white" clients that fled to the Glendale Galleria or Old Town Pasadena - cities that have no such dispensaries.
But Huizar, being the pussy that he is - has decided to make this an issue while illegal drug sales are rampant in virtually every Boyle Heights corner. Dangle a carrot - a white carrot - in front of Huizar and he'll make it a priority. I guess this is something you learned from Antonio since this isn't the Huizar I used to know.

What do you expect from something that was written by men?

Sarah is very pretty and looks very sweet in the photo. What is your problem?

This is off topic, about the national issues, but I hope you won't mind talking about this, Sarah. I looked on your Facebook page and noticed that you support Bob Barr and Ron Paul. I like them too but I worry about them being STAUNCH social conservatives were they to achieve office.

Bob Barr was the Republican who handled the impeachment of Bill Clinton, and yes, he was a social conservative back then, but I feel that he had to give up the culture war as a result of his Presidential run. I think he understands that we can no longer afford it.
Ron Paul is personally a social conservative, but he's also a staunch libertarian and he has shown time and time again that he understands that the Constitution does not allow him to legislate morality.
