Jack Weiss Stretches the Truth
Following a report from Zuma Dogg that Council Members were quietly questioning a recent Jack Weiss for City Attorney mailer, the LA Times gets into the game saying that Weiss' fellow Council Members are miffed at claims in the mailer that Weiss was the only Council Member leading the effort to deal with a significant backlog of unprocessed rape evidence by the LAPD.
Councilman Dennis Zine who told Zuma Dogg that voters should "...vote for anyone BUT Jack Weiss for City Attorney." and that "It will be detrimental to the City of Los Angeles if he (Jack Weiss) becomes City Attorney," was quoted by The Times as saying that Weiss was "capitalizing on this tragedy of rape survivors."
Weiss, who has headed up the City Council's Public Safety Committee for years however significant action did not occur until City Controller Laura Chick exposed the situation creating a media firestorm. The Times says that Chick, upset by Weiss television commercials that make the same claims as the mailer, was quoted as saying "I think they're (the commercials) an enormous stretch, and I find them offensive."
Other colleagues of Weiss were disturbed by the City Attorney race campaign material with Jan Perry saying "It's disappointing. We all fought and agree and voted on funds for rape kits and to get testing done more quickly -- it was a council effort, not led by one particular individual."

trying to drag one thread into three Higby? You milked this already twice.

Thanks council morons for showing your lack of class and leadership. Zine is the last person to be saying anything and who would ever know he was a cop they way he behaves. I can't think of one thing any of the people speaking out have done especially Zine that was worth a damn. Perry thinks about food, Chick has proven to be sneaky and signs off on million dollar checks she later states she didn't know what they were for, Fleishman Hillard.

Nice spin CD5. What's all that screaming over there this morning?

As usual, the posters ignore the point made.
They attack the messenger, also as usual.
JACK WEISS is the weakest choice for office of CITY ATTORNEY, considering his legal experience alone, the recency and extent of which is sorely missing while he's been the CD-5 CM for the last 7-1/2 years JACK'S California courts experience is not there; it's the main forum for most City case, and he's not even got OLD experience there. Many of the challengers have current court experience as practicing attorneys and there is prosecutorial experience, past and current, for some. JACK WEISS does not have that.
The only thing that is recent in JACK WEISS case is that he's getting more vocal as the March 3rd election date gets closer.
You might expect that the colleagues at the Council would support him, they are so united for all the votes that usually make- but they don’t.
Maybe it's because they don't remember JACK as a colleague, being absent from meetings so much.
THE FACTS ARE THERE- The hater material directed at opposition bloggers and at Mayor Sam, especially with all the name calling, still doesn't make JACK qualified for City Attorney, or even worthy as a CM. The problem is the candidate, JACK WEISS.

As far as Jan Perry goes, I agree with person on previous Weiss thread -- this woman has no understanding of the ramifications of her actions and resents anyone even in the public who points them out. Like with the giant billboard/LED "sign district" she insisted on creating, and tried to paint opponents who are well-meaning billboard blight opponents with very false accusations. He probably made the mistake of behaving logically of trying to explain the big picture to her. If you want huge billboards everywhere, and support the billboard industry over citizens and the city, she's your champion.
The Times quoting her without even trying to give context is strange. But they do conclude with Bratton substantiating Weiss's claims that Perry probably is unaware of just like with why she helped undermine the city's own billboard ban and is responsible for a freeway danger.

No Jack Weiss! No Villaraigosa! No Wendy Gruel!
If we get rid of these three, we are doing something HUGE.

Speaking of huge, has anyone seen Higby lately?

Jack Weiss is on facebook. No one is posting on his wall but him. He is asking people to be his friends, not vice versa. Everyone seems to dislike this guy.

Jeff Weiss for city attorney? There can be no worse choice. Weiss was told that his constituents were breaking the law. They were performing animal ritual sacrifices. Instead of pressing charges or at least educating the offenders, he instructs police and animal control to do nothing. Why? Because the people killing the animals donated to his campaign. In fact he went so far as to have the head of animal services tell Rabbis that he's all for killing animals for religious purposes. Donate to Jack Weiss. Get away with murder. If he is elected it'll be good ole boy territory for sure. In fact, you want to commit crimes. Donate to Weiss and you'll never be prosecuted

The print version of the Times said that "Bratton backs Councilman" on all his points, and the writer says that "The public record shows that in 2002, Weiss called for the Police Department to bar the destruction of DNA evidence. He later pushed the department to test every rape kit. Both are now LAPD policy."
"In 2003, he called for setting aside millions of dollars to help clear the DNA backlog; he later drafted a staffing plan to add 56 positions over a four-year period.
This past fall, Weiss spearheaded efforts with Council President Garcetti to secure $700,000 to fill 16 new positions in LAPD's crime lab this fiscal year -- a move supported by the rest of the council."
So what is very clear and specific is that Weiss has been pushing the issue and creating specific plans to address it since 02, but the rest of the council including Perry who claims she was just as involved all along, just finally coughed up the money last fall. (Since a number of them wanted to cut funding even for cops on the streets, blaming Weiss for not getting more money earlier is just ignorant or spiteful or both.)
This makes me wonder why Chick was NOT aware of his efforts all along until she did an expensive audit which just said everything Weiss, Smith and LAPD have been saying in far more detail and with solutions waiting for funding for years. Did she mean to deliberately ignore the work of others to claim "credit" and a huge PR photo op, or is she very ignorant of something she should have known? Both worry me and speak badly about HER credibility. (Zine is openly shilling for Nuch and hosted a fundraiser for him last night, so this is just part of their negative/dirty campaigning.)
Some people may resent that like Bratton he often has no tolerance for fools and says so, and there are plenty of those around -- but he has been consistent and a lone voice on the issue for many years.
Like Bratton is quoted: "I wish his colleagues were as attentive to it as he has been al of the six years I've been here. Year after year, he sought to expand our capabilities, and year after year ...we did not get all the we had sought, but not from any lack of effort on his part."
The Times finally saying this and adding its own corroborating proof shows Weiss was right too about the media not putting the facts out like they should have.

Lots of neato spinning here; the fact remains.
No one wants to be Jack's friends.
Imagine being so bad even the Clowncil hates you.

Imagine Saltzburg for Mayor and Matt for City Attorney.
Better yet, add in Mike Hunt (sorry, I get the giggles every time I type his name) for Controller.
Imagine Los Angeles in chaos.
But, I repeat myself...

Is Wendy Gruel participating in any of the debates for Controller?

Does everyone here realize that Chick's audits cost money? The audit of Animal Services cost $250,000. While Chick is a bright woman I could have written the same report for $500. We all know the problems. BFD. We know the solutions. Double BFD. These audits tell us what we already know and don't solve anything. The GMs just ignore the recommendations. Look at Chick's last audit of Animal Services four years ago. They had the same results as the current one, and nothing improved. What's the point of having a city controller when no one ever follows their advice/

I came across a flyer that said “Fact is, Weiss missed 38% of his Council meetings in 2007 and missed 32% just last year. If any regular person missed work that much they would lose their job. (Source: LA City Clerk)”

1;21: You "came across" the flyer, right. You don't want to admit it's from Trutanich's flyer which is ALL negative/ nasty campaigning against the guy who has done lots during the last 8 years, while he's been representing pollution violators and calling himself an "environmentalist." People are ashamed to be associated with Truthanich's nasty and petty ad campaign full of desperate attempts to avoid issues and taking the low, very low road.
And yet he doesn't mention representing Rocky Delgadillo as his lawyer.
Loved Zahniser's article on Zine's "disinterested" attack on Weiss, concluding with how Ttrutanich's work for Rocky is never mentioned in his flyers, but while he lets Rocky get beat up for his poor track record, "calls to Delgadillo were referred to Trutanich."

Weiss is a pig. He doesn't give a rat's a#% about women or rape kits. God help us all if he's elected to the city attorney office.
Anonymous said:
Why is Weiss worried about what other people say about him?
Antonio isn't. It's because the mayor is assured of winning his election. Jack Weiss isn't.
It's gonna be Weiss versus either Amerian or Trutanich in the runoff.
Once that happens, all the people that HATE Jack Weiss will line up for his opponent.
The lead vote-getter in a city primary doesn't always win the runoff. See Michael Feuer in 2001.

Nuch is as corrupt as his pal Rocky. Noel Weiss is the candidate for change.

If the citizens of Los Angeles want true change and not the same dog and pony show that the Mayor and Weiss roll out when cameras are near by vote for anyone but Weiss for City Attorney
