Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday
City Attorney candidate Carmen Trutanich announced Monday he's been endorsed by both the Los Angeles Airport Police Supervisors Association and the California Narcotics Officers' Association. Later, reacting to a press event for opponent Jack Weiss where he was endorsed by LAPD Chief Bill Bratton (should the LAPD Chief even be endorsing candidates?) Trutanich said "It's ironic that Weiss, who has one of the lowest attendance ratings of any councilmember, is holding a political press conference in the middle of his work day." We still wonder what Weiss' colleagues Bernard Parks, Jan Perry and Herb Wesson have to say about the Mayor and Weiss showing up to a press opp to discuss LAPD plans for their Districts without inviting the three local Councilmembers.
The National Photographers’ Rights Organization is working to educate photographers on their rights to take photos in public despite what security guards, other employees and even Miriam from Van Nuys say. The law is you have every right to take photos in public from public property even if what you are shooting is private property or even individuals. In the stunning video below members of NPRO are apparently harrassed by security guards at the US Bank Tower which is managed by Maguire Properties. The NPRO's blog claims that an account under the name of Maguire Properties (not verified as actually being an account opened by anyone at the property management firm), that was allegedly posting threatening messages against the NPRO on their YouTube page, has been removed. This reminds me of my time in Sunland-Tujunga where I was told by security I could not photograph the now surrendered Home Depot site from the sidewalk.

What a stupid comment. So Cooley can endorse Trutovich and in fact is the one who urged him to run, just so he'd have someone he can control at the city level, but you're saying Bratton shouldn't endorse anyone? As one of the most renowned law enforcment people in the world, I'd say Bratton's solid endorsement is worth a lot. Like he said today, Trutovich and the others came out of the blue, no one ever heard of them, Trutovich's only public experience was 30 years ago working for Cooley, "no brainer."
Best he can come up with is holding a press conference in the day, huh. Guess they should be at night when no one is around, what an idiotic thing to even say.

Higby at 9:40, you're making even LESS logical "sense" now. Illogical in other words.
You say IF Cooley endorsed someone like Weiss you could vote him out -- but he DID make an endorsement, of Trutovich, and in fact, far worse, actively meddled in politics by recruiting him to run specifically in order to have someone in the City Attorney's office he could control.
What you're really saying is NOT that you 0bject to the principle, but to WHOM is being endorsed.
And Bratton did it as a private citizen by the way, but while you claim "Many" would like to get rid of him, these are among the most ignorant KFI/Doug McIntyred screamers, not those who have any idea what they're talking about.
The rest of us want to retain him, and fact tha he thinks so highly of Weiss over such a long period says a lot. LAST thing we'd need is him getting stuck with Trutovich who like he says comes out of the blue, and who would have major conflicts with everyone else at city hall. Except Zine, who like Cooley is a Republican and panders to the KFI/McIntyred clientelle and looks down on those with "fancy educations." When you look at LAPD's achievements under Bratton in the last 6 years, it's day and night and for the better.
Walter Moore was on Channel 11 KTTV this morning and had what I personally thought was a strong performance. You can see the 7:45 am video at the KTTV site. He was supposed to be on later taking questions. I haven't seen that yet.
Wednesday morning and evening
Really early Wednesday morning, like within a 10 minute window
starting at 2:22 a.m. (PST), NASA is going to launch a NOAA weather
satellite from Vandenberg. This is on a Delta II with solid rocket
strap-ons with the sun well below the horizon so it won't be ultra
spectacular, but I've been able to see them quite well in the past
from Pasadena.
A good way to catch it is look at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/
nasatv/index.html, and hit Play on the Public Channel. They'll be
showing the launch, so when you see it leave the pad go outside and
look to the west. It will take several minutes for it to appear, and it will look something like a reddish comet moving right to left
about 40 degrees up from the horizon. Binoculars would help.
It's neat when the first stage runs out of fuel and the second stage ignites!
For the non-night owls the International Space Station will be
appearing early Wednesday evening. Go out about 6:25 P.M. (PST) and face south. The Moon will be to the upper right of
Orion, and that really, really bright 'star' in the southwest is
Venus. The ISS should rise to the right of Venus about 6:26:30 P.M. and reach it's highest elevation at 6:27:50P.M.

"Maguire"...Hmmm, there's that name again. About 2.5 months ago I received one of those survey calls about 7 o'clock in the evening from a company called "Maguire" calling from Nevada, they said. For about 20 minutes I was grilled about my feelings regarding solar energy and mass transit. They kept asking me the same questions, but re-phrased slightly differently each time, as if trying to trick me into approving all this ridiculously-expensive "green power." (i.e., Measure B.) Anyone have any thoughts?
Wacko's taking questions? Is he answering too or just taking like he took 200,000 dollars in endorsements and spent it on lawn signs.
Finally found a candidate who's even less qualified for mayor than zdogg -- Carlos Alvarez, interviewed on KPCC/ Patt Morrison. 22 year-old self- described Socialist, platforms include $15 min/wage, full documentation for illegal immigrants asap, higher taxation on corporations, turning cops into social workers, and an end to sexism, homophobia and any other isms and phobias.
Look for Alvarez hats, bumper stickers, lawn signs and all the other anti-green clutter of middle class America as used by Moore, zdogg (well, he's selling his junk) and other candidates for mayor of this fine city.
Higby, you make less sense about the Cooley/Bratton endorsement issue every time you open your mouth so give it up already.
I did vote against Cooley last time, but he's got such a machine and has scared all his deputies that although they endorsed his opponent, he won anyway.
I voted against him because of various shady dealings, including holding on purpose the info that a man he'd released from prison, there for violating numerous restraining orders by his wife who he'd threatened to kill, was released anyway by his deputies and murdered his wife next day.

Weiss is perfectly qualified to be City Attorney. He is "Mr. Public Safety" and he knows how the City works. He will a very forceful crime fights/prosecutor and he will bring back reasoned, experienced and mature legal counsel to the Office of City Attorney. He is, by far, the most qualified candidate. Yes, he is political and to further his career he needs to be the best muncipal counsel that he can be while City Attorney....He will be!

Everybody knows Guiliani is responsible for NYC's turnaround. Without the political backing, Bratton would've been another failed police commissioner in NYC.
