Home Depot Thinks You Need ID to Stand on the Sidewalk
More of my video from trip last weekend to Sunland-Tujunga and the site of the ill fated Home Depot. Yes, its the very trip that forced the old, dead Republican Mayor to do a KERRY-ESQUE flip flop and become a Home Depot opponent. Now my libertarian soul hasn't gone the distance to believe the city should force this to happen; but I realize that it's probably the only way. Though I'll continue to try to embarrass the brain dead not deserving of the fruits of free enterprise clowns at Home Depot out of it.
This video follows a few of the sights and sounds of Sunland-Tujunga from my journey and further footage of the altercation between myself, No 2 Home Depot Chairman Joe Barrett, North Valley Reporter publisher Nina Royal and a Home Depot security guard. The guard - a sweet young woman just trying to do her job - was under the mistaken impression that citizens can not shoot film on a public sidewalk and apparently need some kind of identification to do so. The culmination of the scene is my call to Home Depot spokes-hole Kathryn Gallagher's cell phone. Kathryn didn't take my call but emailed me the next day offering an interview with a representative of Home Depot's real estate division. A little too late I think considering I've been covering the story for over a year (staunchly on the side on the side of Home Depot) and the very first time I ever hear from Home Depot is the Friday before I go to Sunland-Tujunga.
As much as it breaks my objectivist heart; I can't waste my time defending stupid capitalists.

Hey Valley Doll, Joe B, Abby, Louis, Kim - -
This summer we should have Wednesday night cruise night on Foothill Blvd. through S-T.
I know Joe B. and Kim are not natives, not sure about Abby, but I know for sure Video Louis and Valley Doll both remember Wednesday Night Cruise Night on Van Nuys Blvd. Man that was a lot of fun! Anyone remember "My Uncles?" or the Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor?
Man the Valley sucks now.

Now I'm gonna date myself. I grew up in Van Nuys. I certainly remember cruising on Van Nuys Blvd. I remember Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. We had rumbles in Sherman Oaks Park. And I remember when a pack of cigarettes cost 35 cents.I was 14.Those warm summer nights will be in my memory forever. I like your idea of cruise night on Foothill! The video you just posted is really bitchen... ;)
Yeah, the timing of Ms. Gallagher's call is very interesting.

Actually Mayor, you have been covering this story for a lot longer than one year.

Although Bernanke tried to steer his questioners away from the word "recession," he conceded in an exchange with Representative John Spratt Jr., the South Carolina Democrat who heads the congressional panel, and Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the ranking Republican, that the economy was being battered by an unusual and unsettling combination of problems and that growth would probably be slower in 2008 than last year. There is no doubt the Fed and the PPT are meeting right now. A drop of over 300 points on the Dow after the Chairman of the Federal Reserve speaks publicly presages a $1000 break in gold coming quite quickly, if not tomorrow. Unless the equity markets can be calmed, a panic is about to happen, making the statement "This is it" a horrible reality. An out of control freight train is heading our way. As the dollar disintegrates gold could rocket to and through $1650 in days. New data, suggests that the baseline outlook for real activity in 2008 has worsened. Downside risks to growth have become pronounced, factors like increases in energy prices, lower equity prices and softening of home values. Ben Bernanke's advice manifests to be not to do too much too late.

Man Alive! Hablas español? Poquito, o mucho?
I'll be Gomez to your Morticia...
Gomez Adams to Morticia Adams: Querida, you know it drives me wild when you say the word chupacabra! Morticia, my fair and lovely. You have completely perfected since your days with the Repentant Daughters and the Magdalenes
*The convents of the Magdalenes and Repentant Daughters took in young women from good families who had sinned but repented; once under the order's care a woman did not have the right to leave. But I Gomez rescued you, cara mia. Page 508 - bottom note, The Three Musketeers By Alexandre Dumas.
Gomez: How long has it been since we've waltzed?
Morticia: Oh, Gomez... hours.
Morticia: Gomez.
Gomez: Querida?
(-; All in fun y con respeto, claro!

Could it be true, that Hillary's A-Team hacked the New Hampshire vote? Jesse Jackson and Reverand Al make their usual "strong" case for electoral fraud, but I'm finding it hard to get my indignant mojo working. Because here's the thing: even when the system works as advertised it contemptuously defrauds and disenfranchises citizens who take their politics like detached spectators. Obama and Hillary are two contenders in a fight club of closed ranks and consensus brutality with interchangeable corners. The outcome of this contest for advancement upon our lives - American lives and everyone else with a seat at the arena - will mean just as much as who wins the Super Bowl or the Oscar, should we have any emotional investment in the outcome of those contests. Because the only change to be registered will be how we feel about it. That's supposed to be enough, and it's been that way long enough that for many, it is.

Mayor Sam. Joe B. Abby & Hedda
and the "gang"
( Not "Gangs")
What a great fund raiser for the Sunland Tujunga Alliance (no to Home Depot)
We could set up a Family summer cruise night.
Here's some ideas:
1. Outdoor movies like American Graffitti playing at the parks or Coffee Stop
2. Wear clothing from the 50's
3. Get support from local businesses to do fund raisng
4. How about doing some fund raiser items like: T-shirts
(Picture S-T wildlife "cruisng"
in a few cool cars!, Bumper Stickers
We could engage the kids by doing design contests.
5. A White Elephant Auction
6. Local Bands doing " Practice sessions" in some of the Parking lots.
7. A bake sale
I am sure the "Bikers" would
Participate.
The STNC would have a blast helping!
We could get the other clubs and organizations to handle different parts.
We should do it towards the end of August, since we do a big 4th of July Celebration.
Mayor Sam I added you guys in since you are now a part of our Community!
You own a piece of the Rock!

Valley Doll - DO NOT ANSWER THIS PSYCHO, DANGER, DANGER, DANGER.
This guy is a sick lonely puppy, I caution you, DO NOT answer this sick person.
He should be deleted, he is just a creppy lonely soul, who writes to himself and anybody who will "talk" to him.

Hello Mayor Sam,
It was truly a pleasure to meet you and witness the total reversal regarding Home Depot!
Many of us grew up in the valley and cruised, partied and just plain raised a lot of hell. Unfortunately
the laws changed and fun is almost always illegal (eg cruising).
Everyone here wants you to know just how special it is that you
came, saw and now believe in the
Sunland-Tujunga dream. Come back
anytime and continue your very special work, educating the brain
challenged in Los Angeles!

I have some great memories of cruising, and also remember when a city ordinance was passed outlawing cruising and "No Cruising" signs were posted in the Valley (this would be over a decade ago, which I believe was defined as "passing the same point more than twice in a half hour period". Turned my stomach then, turns my stomach now. Seems so blatantly absurd and unconstitutional! I hope that one has been thrown out, I headed for the hills around the time those signs started popping up in the Valley and have since avoided the Valley like the plague! I do have fond memories of childhood birthday celebrations at Farrell's and remember how depressing it was to me to see it closed down, boarded up and fallen into disrepair.
