Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Sunday
The LA Times makes the case how scary it would be indeed if there were a troika of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and "two of his most unwavering supporters" Jack Weiss as City Attorney and Wendy Greuel as City Controller running the City following the March primary election. Greuel's primary opponent Nick Patsaouras told the Times "It's very apparent that Wendy is part of the inner circle, which will cloud her judgment and compromise her independence."
The DWP has to raise rates, the City is broke, yet we can give out free light bulbs to all residents! And amazingly, the DWP will be paying people to go door to door passing out these light bulbs all over Los Angeles! Yes, I understand they are the power saving, newfangled CFL bulbs. But ask these questions: 1) How much did the bulbs cost, 2) Who got paid and 3) How much will it cost to have them hand delivered to all residences in the city?
We reported the other day that City Council Member Bernard Parks was giving up his spot on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitant Transportation Agency. Now it appears that Parks may have been pushed. Lots of conflicting stories about the matter from the Mayor's office as well as the Council offices of those who are rumored to be replacing Parks on the panel that will soon has millions of dollars in sales tax money to spend on boondoggle transit projects that will undoubtedly go over budget, be way behind schedule and make some very special people, rich.
The LA Times reports that former South Dakota Senator and designated Obama Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Daschle failed to pay $128,000 in taxes over three years during his turn in the private sector earning over $1 million a year as a corporate "advisor." A spokes-hole for Daschle said that the Senator "is embarrassed and disappointed by these errors."

Zanhiser must really be bored if this is the best he can do.
Man, this is a far cry from the great articles he used to write for the Breeze on LAWA and other doings in the system.
Looks like the Z-Man is going down with the ship.

I agree the great David Z is getting pretty weak with his stories. He knows about the corruption with Villaraigosa, Alatorre, Huizar and at one time seemed like he would investigate the corruption in Housing Authority then backed off. Sad another police officer shot by no doubt gangsters and the Mayor pretends as if he cares with the biggest loser who knows nothing and has no experience Jeff Carr. Intervention guys say he is the dumbest tool in the bunch.

About those "free" lightbulbs-
NOBODY is discussing what #4 should be:
How do we handle the environmental hazard created when they are disposed of?

"Free" light bulbs? Well DWP did buy them wholesale, but the program costs, distribution, and purchasing expense make this a whole lot more expensive than distributing highly discounted coupons with DWP bills at places such as Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. But that would be too simple. And nothing is free. You will pay for those bulbs and costs, whether they are used or not, or sold and taken to another country or not. And to think the city council wants to give DWP a monopoly for installation of solar panels. One reason might be that the higher DWP's costs, the more the city can take in transfer and utility taxes. A perverse disincentive for efficiency.

According to the L.A Times, Mayor Villaraigosa and two of his closest allies City Controller Candidate, Wendy Greuel, and City Attorney Candidate, Jack Weiss, have raised a combined $5.2 million. Let’s not forget that just because a candidate raises the most money it does NOT make him/her the best candidate.
Here’s an outstanding opportunity for Angelenos to strike a checks and balances that has been lacking and will continue if these three elected officials are elected again on March 3, 2009.
Change is wonderful!

I think that it is about time that this City had some elected officials that don't fight with each other and actually get along to make this City a better place. Please check out http://jackweiss.com/index.html for more information.

Pretty soon we won't have the LA Times to kick around anymore.
What will Kevin Broderick write about?

If having or raising the most money in a campaign automatically meant winning, we would've had President Ross Perot, then President Steve Forbes, and California Gov. Al Checci.
