Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday
82% of voters turned out to vote in Tuesday's election in Los Angeles County, the most since 86% turned out in 1968. Though many showed up for the historic and popular campaign of Barack Obama let's encourage them to keep it up and see if we can get even half of that for municipal elections next March.
In light of the passage by voters of Proposition 8, which eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry in California, the Los Angeles County Clerk has already ordered no further same-sex marriages be performed in LA County.
Landslide victory for Mr. Avis Ridley-Thomas in the race for LA County Supervisor. State Senator Mark "Don't Call Me Curley" Ridley Thomas bested City Councilmember Bernard Parks by nearly 2-1 in Tuesday's election. The County's loss is the City's gain; Parks is a reasoned voice on the Council and I think we need him in the City still.
When major print publications like The Christian Science Monitor and US News and World Report are abandoning their hard copy editions and going to online only, it's a step backward for the Daily News to end it's ValleyNews.com program which allowed community reporters to post stories of church meetings, school succeses, community projects and other community oriented news at a super local level. The Daily News has ended it's relationship with YourHub, the provider that powered the project.
Add one more candidate to the list of seekers for the post of Mayor of Los Angeles. Zuma Dogg has filed paperwork to run for Mayor and is encouraging you to sign his petition. He begins his drive this Saturday in Highland Park at Casa Princesa.

Michael why do you think they call him "Bitter Bernie"? Cause he is going through life with a chip on his shoulder and has a horrible resentment STILL towards LAPD. He causes problems in council every time he doesn't simply "like" something. I hope ZUma goes after him for the millions being spent on special event waivers. Bitter Bernie gives a lot to the RICH USC football team and parents as special event waivers. Look it up.

The 82% figure is for the county.
Only 57% showed up within the City of Los Angeles itself.
So don't count on 82% for the March 3, 2009 election.
But YOU should show up and vote for me for Mayor.

It's weird that Parks really didn't put up much fight against Ridley-"Union Stooge"-Thomas. What's the deal with that?
ZUMA FOR MAYOR

If Zuma Beeyotch can get enough signatures to have his fake name on the ballot for mayor, then the world might as well come to an end.
That would prove once and for all that the people of this city are just TOO DAMN DUMB to be worth voting for or with, and it's time to go back to wearing animal skins, living in caves, and grunting to communicate.
If you sign ZD's petition, you're an absolute moron -- no ifs, ands, or butts.
If you were to actually cast your precious VOTE for him - a vote that people DIED to preserve your right to - then you haven't progressed one centimeter from being a drunken frat boy who belches and scratches his private parts in public, drives the porcelain bus like a pro, and thinks all that's hysterically funny.
Time to grow up, and stop promoting "ANTI" everything, as if there's some substance to that.

I don't know what to think about the voters in Alaska.
Convicted felon Senator Ted Stevens is leading in his re-election race 48% to 47%.

Petra, THANKS! Glad you feel that way.
Docweiller...what are you complaining about. I have already told you I would hire you in a second. You know I have told people they should listen to you all the time. So quit complaining...you KNOW you love me, and I want to hire you.
And don't give me the, "I would never work for you routine." I would be doing things YOUR way. So you would only be hurting your community if you didn't accept.

I got a copy of the final poll projections from the collection of all polls at RealClearPolitics.com, just to see how close the polls came to the actual numbers.
The popular vote, with just handfuls to be counted, show (rounded off) Obama 53%, McCain 47%, a 7 point difference.
The average of polls tracked by RCP was Obama by 7.6%.
The range was Gallup and the Reuters/CSPAN/Zogby giving Obama an 11 point lead going into election day, and a couple of lesser known ones giving Obama a 5 point lead. Of the well known polls, Pew gave Obama just a 6 point lead.
If a 7 point lead is to be considered right on the mark, that was achieved by Fox News, CNN, and Ispos/McClatchy.
And finally, on average the polls found that 84% of the voters said the country was going in the wrong direction. 10% said it was going in the right direction, which kind of makes you wonder who they were.

zuma dog,do you know that if you take away just one vote from someone who would support walter, you are ultimately hurting the chances of defeating villaraigosa?

Not true. If anyone wants to beat AV, it is unlikely that they will do it in the primary.
The best chance is to force a runoff, and that means that any vote for someone other than AV counts just as much.
But the simply reality is that Walter Moore has a much a chance of being elected Mayor as Higby does of being asked to be Obama's press secretary.
JustSayAmy said:
Someone please correct me, but there is only a runoff if the top two finalists are within a certain range.
Mayor Hahn and Mr. Villaraigosa were in a runoff because of the range they were within of one another, correct?
If it was just the Mayor, Walter and Zuma Dog, and the Mayor got 80% of the vote, are you saying that there would still be a runoff between the Mayor and the #2 person? I do not believe so.
Zuma Dogg said:
Amy,
If the election were today, do you think Walter would get more votes than me?
Anyway, yeah...I kinda wish Walter wasn't running, myself. If he weren't running, I would have a much better chance of beating Douchearaigosa.

To be elected in the primary election, one person must get one more vote than 50% of the votes cast .... known as 50%+1.
So none of the very minor candidates like Zuma Dogg or Walter Moore, on their own, could beat the mayor in the primary.
If there were 150 of them running, and each one appealed to a different set of voters, it might be possible to force the mayor into a runoff.
Zuma's comment about whether you thought he or Walter would get the most votes shows that he isn't serious about being in the campaign. Most likely it's just an attempt to focus more attention on himself without having to spend any money.
If you want to replace Villaraigosa as mayor, you should wait for a serious candidate to come along, or find another way to spend your valuable time.
The first step in deciding if someone is a serious candidate is to ask how much money they can raise, and if they can spell out a scenario through which they can win.

I agree that Rick Caruso NOT running will hurt the chances of someone like Walter or Zuma from winning.
"Zuma's comment...shows that he isn't serious about being in the campaign. Most likely it's just an attempt to focus more attention on himself without having to spend any money."
OH, NOW I KNOW WHO THIS IS...IT'S "MR. PERFECT MINDREADER" back again to "weigh-in" with his "mindreading."
But I'm glad to know you have determined my degree of seriousness and what my attempt is all about.
And, I thought your boss doesn't like when you blow hot blog air.
Man, you gotta get over the "zuma dogg/attention" thing. you just don't get it. you don't know a THING about me. you're just a jealous-crybabay on the sidelines. and you are of NO value to the community. People who mindread like you are never anything but big bags of jealous-crybaby hot-air.

Imagine that, they are actually going to enforce Prop 8. Well, okay, maybe.
Remember that tax law some years back that was going to reduce taxes for everyone? Something big and enormous that won by a landslide. Then no one did anything, and the state ignored it.
I have no confidence in the state enforcing its own laws.
