Obama-Biden vs the Gays
You got to love Joe Biden, no you really got to love Joe. The guy is either stupid, has balls or both.
Guess who's more progressive than Joe Biden? Mayor Sam!
Today Joe went on the Ellen show and announced he is against same-sex marriage. Just as Ellen is about to donate mega-bucks to the same-sex marriage ban.
I've come out in favor of same-sex marriage and am opposed to California's Proposition 8 which would take away the rights that same-sex couples in California enjoy.
However Biden says he is opposed to Prop 8 - yet still is opposed to legalizing gay marriage. Obama too. That's a major disconnect.
Though Obama is expected to win an overwhelming portion of the Gay vote, there is a growing chorus of Gay and Lesbian voters who feel that years of support for the Democratic Party - who maintain the same policy on same-sex marriage as the Republicans (well not all Republicans) - that blindly continuing to vote for the Democrats and being taken for granted is getting them nowhere. Earlier in the primary, many Gays raised concern about a minister tied to Obama who is a leader in the ex-gay movement.
A liberal Gay blogger may have summed it up best:
A concern that opponents of Proposition 8 privately discuss is the potential increased turn-out of African Americans and Hispanics to vote for Obama and, given their cultural conservatism, will wind up casting a vote in favor of 8 along with their support of Obama. Obama could have allayed the concerns of Gays and Lesbians in California who have come out strong for him by actively campaigning against Proposition 8.

Don’t you think that the GLBT community should have prioritized early on and sent most of their tens of millions of campaign dollars to the “Stop Prop 8” drive instead of wasting their money on an ungrateful Senator “Marriage is between a Man and Woman” Obama? Barack had plenty of funds. So why did we give our money to someone who supports discrimination? That is like letting your own children go hungry while giving your family’s food away to the fat neighbors who could care less if you starved to death.
By the way, where is that simple ten second “Vote NO on Prop 8!” commercial from Obama? Don’t we get anything back for all our money and for our votes?
Once more, the scared rabbits in the GLBT community are again playing the role of useful fools. The marriage equality battle is a more immediate issue of concern to our community that the political ambitions of a passive/aggressive homophobe. Obama, as well as most of the Democrats, have already said they do not support our equality. I really wonder how many Black people would come out and vote for any candidate who insulted their dignity is such a manner?

No on Prop 8.
End your obsession with other people's private lives. Keep your religious beliefs separate from your politics. Gay people won't hurt you. Like, other religions, they all have the right to be what they want.

Proposition 8 places into the California Constitution the same language that voters already passed by 61% of the vote in 2000. This is necessary to overturn an outrageous California Supreme Court decision that overturned Proposition 22.
About Proposition 8
Proposition 8 is simple and straightforward. It contains the same 14 words that were previously approved in 2000 by over 61% of California voters: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
Because four activist judges in San Francisco wrongly overturned the people’s vote, we need to pass this measure as a constitutional amendment to restore the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.
Voting YES on Proposition 8 does 3 simple things:
It restores the definition of marriage to what the vast majority of California voters already approved and what Californians agree should be supported, not undermined.
It overturns the outrageous decision of four activist Supreme Court judges who ignored the will of the people.
It protects our children from being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs.

My husband's nephew, God love him, is trying really, really hard to get me to switch from being a Republican to being an Obama Democrat. I told him that I would do so when he signs up for RCIA and becomes a Catholic. This same nephew, God love him, is also violently opposed to gay marriage. This makes my husband and I (both life long moderate Republicans who oppose Prop 8) snicker. This nephew is hell-bent on giving us all sorts of crap about voting for McSame, being Republican, yada yada yada...but can't back peddle fast enough when it comes to gay marriage. But what's really funny is when you ask this particular nephew to tell you how he feels about his councilman (Huizar) and the Mayor, now that it's out in the open that the two men both support gay marriage and have performed marriage ceremonies. Poor nephew gets so upset at all the bad deeds and liberalism that Huizar and the Mayor have done that you would swear he (the nephew) was a conservative. By the way, that's how conservatives have a little fun on a Saturday night...pump a little beer into the nephew and get him talking about gay marriage, Huizar and the Mayor and how he's not going to donate money or time or vote for either of them in the next election cycle because of the gay marriage thing. Then sit back and watch the show. I swear one day I'm gonna wet my pants laughing so hard. Probably when someone other than Villar wins the mayor's race.

Excellent post.
Biden and Obama have paid lip service to Prop 8.
The gays want more. Obama needs to speak to African Americans and Hispanics that CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN means change for everyone. That same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue.
They also need to drop their phony opposition to gay marriage.
The Democrats will eventually lose the Gays the way they lost white men in the 60s.

It's very interesting too that Republicans Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ward Connery are doing more to fight Prop 8 than Obama Biden.
Spin that one Jim!

Why is it so hard to fathom that folks can be opposed to same-sex marriage for religious reasons and still vote no on 8? It's called separation of church and state. These two men believe one thing for religious reasons, but won't allow that to affect the civil and legal rights of fellow citizens. It's not perfect, but it's honest and a step in the right direction. Much better than those who want to restrict the rights of others based on their own religious principles.
And if Biden and Obama are so terrible for not letting their beliefs interfere with the civil rights of folks, why does Mayor Sam support a McCain-Palin ticket, I wonder, that allows all of its religious beliefs to interfere with civil rights of others?
Just sayin'....
