March of the Autry Volunteers

Taking a page from Home Depot tactics and just in time for the Beijing Olympics, it's The March of the Autry Volunteers!

-------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone,

You may have already gotten the message from John about the city Hearing on the Autry's expansion this coming Monday, August 18, at 10 a.m. in beautiful City Hall (renovated by our architect Brenda Levin).

In any case, the first big hearing in front the Plannng Commission's Hearing Officer is expected to last no more than a few hours. It's one of those events where having the room full of supporters is a really, really good thing, so if you're free this Monday, then I'm asking you to please come down and help us out. If you can come to the Autry at 8:45 a.m., we'll even provide the transportation, leaving at 9 a.m. sharp! We will also have some coffee, etc. ahead of time (and - I'm working on this - maybe something afterwards as well).

Please let me know if you can make it! And for those who have already responded, THANK YOU, and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning!

Scott
p.s. - oh, and feel free to bring guests/friends, of course!

Now the Autry certainly deserves criticism, and I wholeheartedly
support your efforts to preserve the Southwest Museum, but comparing them to Home Depot is just hitting below the belt!:)

Well Joe, at least if you get the HD they'll have to put up a rest area to keep the day laborors on the premises and they won't be wandering off to look for bathrooms or food -- if they do, you'll have a reason to hassle HD

6:35,
Nope. The proposed HD site in Sunland
is under the 100,000 sq ft trigger as currently defined in the ordinance.

Well, Joe, workers still aren't allowed to loiter or create a public nuisance in the area -- so if they're attracted there like most HD's, you've still got reason to complain if the neighbors are upset. Lowe's apparently doesn't attract the same crowd -- Alarcon, of all people, being pro-illegal, blasted HD for specifically attracting laborors to work for their target customers, small contractors, while he says Lowes markets to women and home decor.
But sounds like you don't have a choice -- best you can do is make them wish they'd gone to a more amenable area.

They are not coming to Sunland.

Oh 10:27, the Autry has a set of docents and faithful suburban housewives who wear fringe and poodlehair. It will take an hour for the goosestepping Autry Volunteers to clear security with all those silver buckles and tourquise tie clips.

This is classic Steve Sugerman. Load up the bus of clueless people who have no idea why they are there. The only thing missing are the preprinted T-shirts...umm, maybe those will be distributed on the bus.
