Villaraigosa May Have Uphill Battle in Governor's Race
The race for the Democratic nomination for Governor of California is two years off but it's quickly becoming a two man show between San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and former Governor and current Attorney General Jerry Brown, perhaps leaving little room for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa who first must win re-election in 2009. Party insiders are placing Villaraigosa low on their list even behind current Lt. Governor John Garamendi who is also expected to seek the nomination (who if he does run will have run for Governor of California once in each of the four last decades). Of course, Brown, Newsom and even Garamendi have a distinct advantage over Villaraigosa in that they don't have to mount a re-election campaign for their current offices prior to the kick-off of the 2010 campaign.

Villaraigosa is DOA in this one. Unfortunately the more we say so, the more he'll want to try to prove us wrong, only to prove us right while wasting a lot of time, money and good will at the same time.
Antonio is in a pickle on this one. The question is whether all those Latino voters who last time voted for him in blind racial alliance have been slapped into reality by his craven pandering to monied interests as he ignored a jillion campaign promises he made to them. The No Home Depot folks should ask themselves why the Mayor has not lifted a finger to help the community when Latham & Watkins is representing Home Depot.
Latham & Watkins, who arranged for the Latino Museum/Theatre to take over the Los Angeles Theater Center with close cooperation with the Mayor's office, was observed calling the Mayor and his highest staff from the cellphones of Latham's lowly associates. Has anyone investigated why it is that Latham enjoys such extraordinary access to the Mayor? The campaign contribution records of the Ethics Commission are reported to show "officially" that Latham attorneys only donated $14,000 to the Villagairosa campaign. Does anyone believe that Latham's total contributions are that amount? The Mayor's office on speed dial of Latham associates is an indication of extraordinary access -- what was the real price of Latham's access? Let's follow the money to Antonio's silence on important public policy issues where Latham is involved. Let's look at what assistance Latham is providing for the Mayor's re-election or ambitions for governor.
Jerry Brown will win this one in the primary - well, that's because the Republicans are talking about a virtually unknown candidate who is the CEO of EBay, Meg Whitman.
A good woman, to be sure, and worth reportedly $1.4 Billion.
But Jerry's name I.D. is overwhelming, plus he moderated his views substantially when he was Mayor of Oakland. He's learned a lot and will be a better Governor this time around.
But he is still an assh*le.

Scumbaggio Villaraigosa has lied, cheated, and ignored the citizens and spent us into a half billion dollar debt.
And when it came time to pay for the shortfall, he THREATENED job cuts so he could raise fees. Then, when he got the fee raises, the curtain was pulled back to show that no one would lose their job.
The only thing worse than this is his cheating on his wife, whose NAME HE AFFIXED TO HIS OWN TO APPEAR MORE ETHNIC!!! How emasculating!!!

In case you guys are not aware of it, Villar has been aping every single gesture of Bill Clinton...from the open-mouthed grin to the hands clasped piusly in his lap. Watch for the clasped hands...it's hilarius! Bill Clinton pulled it off, but Villar looks like a little Mexican 80 pound weakling trying to imitate the 6'1 American President. What's even more hilarious is when Villar has managed to worm his way on the stage with Bill and Hillary Clinton...the contrast in stature is staggering! It's so comical! This is a no brainer. Look at the state of this city since the gang banger cholo Mayor took office. More traffic, overcrowded schools, clinics closing, more illegal vendors, more illegals, corrupt deals with developers, political paybacks at fundraisers, all he's done is raise taxes, given unions high raises, and the list goes on. Not one accomplishment to speak of but will jump on the bandwagon saying He's the reason LAPD has increased although any patrol coper will tell you they hate his ACLU butt. At least Antonio doesn't have to worry about Gavin Newsom anymore -- after being exposed as aiding and abetting illegal gangbanging felons. Only pickle is, Tony's people can't openly criticize Newsom for this since many of them want Tony to do MORE for the cholos and are also opposed to deporting illegal gangbangers -- look how they're trying to turn Jamiel's law into a "racist" message.
(Not that some people attached to that bill aren't doing so for the wrong reasons and also have attacked white people, and drag in old hostilities and class issues blaming white people for "not caring" about the hood. Which is why I can't support this particular law or Walter Moore, who's hanging on to it for his personal reasons.)
But look at the alleged "hold" developers have on Tony: IF it's true, and it is insofar as Riordan, Broad, bankers, Chambers of Commerce and the OLD MONEY supports him, it's taking him away from the LaRaza stuff of his youth. Funny how once you're part of the power structure, you don't want to tear it down in the same way, and that means, NOT supporting the Reyes/ Alarcon/ Padilla/ Romero faction. Lefties like Janice Hahn have been a lot worse -- and Rosendahl's quoted opposing the 1/2c tax increase -- because it's not enough.

Has anyone stopped to realize that if Antonio does not run for governor and/or if he is not successful in doing so, that means L.A. will have another four years of his "leadership"?
Remember only something like 225,000 voted for Antonio. You don't think there's a hell of a lot more people pissed off at what he's done to this city. You can bet the Valley homeowners are pissed. Interesting the Sacramento Bee even had the list of Antonio fundraisers and exactly who the people were and the paybacks. If Antonio runs it will come out big time. Does anyone know where his divorce is and if Corina won in court to keep her name.
The fake smile won't listen can't talk mayor won't run for gov because it will hurt his re-election. In fact, he will probably back Newsom or Brown to prove it. Then, because three or four people will run against him, thus diluting the opposition votes, he will win as mayor. God help us.
I don't like the fact that the Latinos openly see themselves as a Machine with a united agenda, and am not sure if the Mayor's evolved from that as he claims, or not. But I can see that the main problems we've got, have been brewing for about three decades: traffic, and the stupidity/ parochialism of the HOA's that got Zev and Waxman to ban subway funding; the same groups were fighting development back then -- at least by 1980; blowing money that should have gone to fixing and widening our highways; the homeless problem and Skid Row, the solutions stymied by kow-towing to the ACLU; trash in the alleys and lack of recycling in apt. buildings; no thought to "greening" the city or combining development with transit (even if the way AB1818 and Planning are twisting the notion of real "transit" at least it's on the table now); middle class flight from the public schools; the cops were a paramilitary force then, under Parks, demoralized; gangs, homicides and crime have been on the upswing for 15 years.
The Mayor's actually tackling stuff that's been neglected and brewing for decades, and making progress. You can hate his grin and how he talks and resent his running all over town for photo ops -- but it's just ignorant to keep claiming these problems suddenly emerged full-blown in the last few years.
He will already have been reelected as mayor in 2009, which is BEFORE the 2010 gubernatorial election.....
With these two Dem playboys running, one thing is for sure: plenty of whiskey, sexy on the campaign trail. Will they have any time left for speeches?
Oh, and if the Republican is half decent, he/she will win.
The "legal Latinos" who voted to get the first Latino Mayor are so disappointed that word is they won't vote for him again. That's a hell of a lot of people. What will he campaign on, the first Mayor to be out of the city as much as he has. Not one damn accomplishment and his support of illegals will be an issue. I've taken an informal survey of those who voted in the last mayoral election in all districts; 72% are sorry they voted for the current occupant. If the mayoral election were held next week, their opinions were 8% for Zuma, 20% no opinion, and a whopping 72% expressed support for Walter Moore!
Yeah, where are those polls on approval rating for Antonio. Could it be Ace Smith the hatchetman is hiding them. They are well below the average that he fears if they get out it will not be good. I believe in Karma and all we have to do is sit back and wait. A corrupt, lying, cheating, individual can only go so far before it catches up and the spiritual world takes over.
