Zuma Dogg vs. The Neighborhood Councils
Zuma Dogg is calling for the end to the Neighborhood Council experiment in Los Angeles. Mr. Dogg says that as an extension of the "corrupt" local City government it is difficult for the Councils themselves not to also be corrupt. The recent controversial elections held by several local Councils were the last straw for Zuma.I am not sure that I am ready to join in calling to end the Councils, but serious reform is needed in how they spend taxpayer money. The money is often begged for by City Councilmembers or City agencies for items that should be covered by the general City budget or is used for purposes that don't seem to have wide community consensus. The NC funds should only be for the purpose of funding outreach and administrative activities of the Council and not for beautification projects, donations to non-profits or buying things for the City.

Forget improving the community! Just shoot your wad on "outreach" (ie, personal publicity) and "administrative activities" (ie, bureaucratic waste).

So, councils should spend $$ on overhead and admin. office supplies, and publicity for themselves and not spend on the community to meet community needs?
Why not follow another republican mantra and allow local control?

Why doesn't Zuma actually run a neighborhood council first before asking for the abolition?
I saw him in Council Chambers with a homemade shirt and a hannah montana bag the other day - he is almost over the edge.
An absolute perfect example that illustrates the complete failure that is our City's experiment with neighborhood councils, two words: Lincoln Heights.

Why do I have to run an NC first to call for plug to be pulled? That just doesn't make any sense?

Did you see my blogging and comments over the past couple weeks. I don't think the mayor's staff is saying, "Wow, that ZD sure melts."

That's what happens with affirmative action anchor babies who have good sob stories -- those white libs in charge of Ivy College admissions LUV that stuff and bend over backwards to throw scholarships at them. Too bad half the kids in the barrios and hoods can't even get through high school, and those who do, are dumber than nails.
Only 1% of 9th graders at Locke High could pass the Algebra exam, and 5% the English. Mostly Latinos but lots of blacks, too. Then they march about "injustice" and Reyes and Alarcon blame the gringos. Why don't their community leaders do more to mentor and tutor these kids, and use their churches for that? Enough of the mariachi festivals wasting our taxpayer money, or misusing LAUSD funds for Semillas del Pueblo which sends kids to China to learn Mandarin (which they never master, anyway) but they're as bad as Locke and Markham, the worst of the schools.

A good many of these chastising posts could use some spelling and grammar checking, incl. capitalizing and punctuation.
"ie," could be "i.e.,";
"salisian high" is "Salesian High";
"confussed" might be "confused";
"homel;ess vagrant", and so on.
There's more errors if you really care to find them.

You eastsiders seem to have lots of anger issues. Constantly fussing and feuding over the most insignificant things and always personalizing everything. Who was the last councilmember from the area you liked?
What Zuma Dogg is really saying is because he can't control the NCs, and he can't get them to buy into his adolescent act, he will crusade to destroy them. It's the same tactic used by some of the worst NC leaders in the past. When they couldn't control the composition of their board or push through their agenda, rather than go find a new hobby, they decided to try and destroy the NC.

When you're someone like the mayor and you've got important things to do, and you're approached by someone in public who has clearly lost touch with reality and has nothing to say or ask, you find the quickest and most polite way to get them away from you.
In your case it was easy. He gave you your opiate -- he fed your ego. But rather than talk to you or pretend that he was listening (that takes time) he had you pose for a picture. By the time your swelling went down, he was gone.
Why is it ok for council people to ask the NC's for money then turn around and give it to a non profit. There's a new policy that's happening because council people are getting money from NC's making them think its for an event, then the NC's are finding out that money is going to the council person's non profit of choice. Does anyone know if that's ok?? Sure doesn't sound right. Why isn't the council person using their own discretionary money??
