Remember this guy?

Yeah, him—he’s our mayor, remember? Antonio Villaraigosa; the guy we hired to run our city more than three years ago. Anyway, he’s in town for a few days and wanted you all to know that he’s focused on the job at hand:

…when you focus on the job at hand and don't look so far ahead, it's when you kinda build the foundation for whatever you're gonna do in the future. Right now this focus is, on the job, being mayor, having a great time...

Listen below to our absentee mayor in his own words on the Ryan Seacrest Show*:

REASON WHY PARKS NEEDS TO NOT BE VOTED IN AS SUPERVISOR.

Rampart revisited A legal victory for three officers is a reminder that much of the scandal remains a costly mystery.

The decision of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a jury award of $15 million to three Los Angeles police officers investigated and prosecuted -- and acquitted -- as part of the Rampart police abuse scandal is a reminder that the aftermath of that wrenching episode is with us still, costing taxpayers years after the events at issue and enriching criminals and cops alike. Given the magnitude of the city's budget troubles these days, that's cause enough for woe.

What makes matters worse is the basis for the court's decision, which turns in part on the actions of then-Police Chief BERNARD PARKS,, now a member of the City Council and candidate for county supervisor, and his then-counterpart, Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti. According to the court, when Garcetti expressed reservations about prosecuting Rampart cases without thorough investigations, Parks replied: "I DON'T CARE. LET'S GET THE CASE BEHIND US. If we prosecute the case, even if you lose the case, it's over. It's done."
That's a troubling remark and one that understandably caught the attention of the 9th Circuit, which cited it to support the claim by the officers that they were victims of an overzealous investigation.

Antonio Villaraigosa. YES, I do remember him.

And I recall that the blog owners and co-hosts here all heartily endorsed him just three years ago, especially Mayor Sam Higby.

So, who's the bigger sap in the long run - the "sapper" or the "sappee"?

Seriously -- he wasn't supported here at MS back then because he'd done a good job in his last well-paid city job (for which he was also on-record as being mostly absent), or that he had a track record as a fixer of problems, or that he surrounded himself with capable people, or that he was bringing forward a list of workable plans to address problems, or that he was intellectually capable of ever coming up with any . . .

Or, or, or. He was promoted here then as being the guy who should be L.A.'s next mayor, simply because of what or who he WASN'T. (Then) he wasn't the sitting mayor. Now. he is, so -- predictably, now you attack. (Why? Because he hasn't "delivered" -- he never even SAID he would DO anything. In THAT anyway, he's KEPT his promises). Or wasn't anyone paying attention then?

He was never capable of being an effective mayor of a major city, and anyone who said he was, was on his payroll, decluded, or certifiable.

Who's word should you trust that he's now doing a BAD job? The same citics who once said he would do a GOOD one? Based on NO evidence that he could, ever, possibly rise to the challenge?

Not on your tintype, Junior.

This blog's collective judgement sucks as bad when attacking as it does when supporting.

PLEASE, don't bother endorsing anyone here this time around. A person would have to be a HUGE idiot to take this blog's advice - on ANYTHING more important than whether or not Britney Spears should wear a bikini or a one-piece!

1135 are you out of your effing mind?

You mean he did a great job during the city council term that he SAID he'd complete, but didn't?

Is that the same half-assed job he'd do if re-elected, then dump it to run for Governor?

Are you talking about leaving the city with more than a half billion dollars in debt?

OH, and what about the 700+ jobs he was going to cut OR ELSE WE'D LOSE SERVICES, and then not a single person gets fired?

That great job?

Is that the great job you mean?

Or is there more great work? Like traveling around with Clinton forever.

Or traveling around with Obama forever.

Or going to Israel with THIRTY others during a budget crisis, under the guise of security? What security work does AV do? Remind us?

Or, the great job of distracting 100% of the city with his family problems?

Or his waiving a toilet brush in the air and acting like a FOOL.

That great job?

That one?

Huh?

Tell us.

10:19am, the jurisdiction of the council over operations of LAUSD schools is only incidental, if at all. Huizar might be more blameworthy for what happened during his tenure on the LAUSD Bd. of Education, before reaching the council.

Mayor Tony has Roosevelt squarely within his control now that the dust has settled over control of schools, so let's see if anything works.

Most of the mentioned schools- as with LAUSD overall- have a lot of "ELLs", English Language Learners, who don't have English as their first language. This fact is rarely brought out as a factor affecting school performance which really is the key to improvement in most things other than math.

BTW, it's not developers with money who get the attention, it's the developers who "SHARE" the money with the occupants of City Hall.

Calm down, take a deep breath, and remember elementary school reading skills, if you got that far.

Then, maybe with some help from an adult, you can re-read the post you're ranting against.

You'll hopefully then discover that we're on the same page when it comes to the view that Villaraigosa hasn't done of "great" job (your word - no one else ever said "great," even sarcastically . . . more evidence you missed the message).

But, even though we may be on that same page, I can read it, and you can't.

It's VERY important to read EVERY word, and not pull a phrase out of context before you drop a 300-word rant in anger.

For example, when someone says:

"he wasn't supported here at MS back then because he'd done a good job in his last well-paid city job..."

That means (stick with me, special ed) "he DIDN'T do a good job, but you (Mayor Sam and his little saps) supported him anyway'

The POINT of the post was to condemn Mayor Sam and his minions for endorsing Tony V. three years ago when he had no history of doing a good job in city government and no stated plans to make the city better. (I know, still too many big words - sorry!)

As I said, we're on the same page -- only your lips are moving when you try to read it, and your comprehension level is on par with Mayor Sam's political insight.

(Your other big clue should have been the more simple statement "He was never capable of being an effective mayor of a major city, and anyone who said he was, was on his payroll, decluded, or certifiable.")

Keep going to that tutor, tiger. Someday you may be up to Zuma Dog's level of intellectual discourse. That response you posted sounded like something he would have come up with for a 2-minute "I'm ready for my closeup, Channel 35" moment.
If you live long enough.

I got another, more appropriate theory about that (vs. the old "someone must be threatened" straw man argument that's used here ENDlessly -- and poorly anytime someone makes a valid point against a blog "hero").

The alternate "theory" is when a concerned citizen, who also has his beefs with city government, sees a posturing demogague like Kaye leading a pack of probably well-meaning lemmings off a cliff just to boost his own name recognition -- to feed an ego, or whatever.

Does that mean the critic is jealous that HE'S not leading the pack of lemmings in useless, laughable "revolts" (even a small pack), and their efforts off a cliff?

Only in your warped mind.

As far as being a "respected" former editor of a local newspaper . . . PLEASE, I've lived in L.A. all my life, stay very much in touch with civic lie, and I never heard Kaye's name before he decided to SLAP someone to finally gain some recognition.

Please don't try and foist your Valley-centric prejudices on the whole city. Most of L.A. would use the Daily News for trashcan liners before they ever read it, and that includes people in the Valley, as evidenced by it's miniscule circulation for being an "L.A." newspaper.

More people read the New York Times throughout L.A. than the Daily News. It would be better named "The Valley Curmudgeon".

This week's SLAP was a silly posturing of mostly angry, out-of-touch middle agers who are still bitter over not being able to secede from the city years ago.

Get over it, already, and stop letting false political profits (no 'sic') like Kaye "lead" you with promises of ANOTHER chance.

The LA Partnership Schools under the control of the Mayor has done almost nothing to help schools like Roosevelt High School. After 18 meetings and 6 months, the Partnership has planted about 100 trees throughout the campus at Roosevelt High School and the Partnership is also refurbishing the Roosevelt swimming pool. How this will improve student achievement is anybody's guess. The real reform plan is that the Partnership will break up Roosevelt into 8 small schools of 500 and convert it into a charter school. What an idiotic idea. The administration at Roosevelt can't even run one school, how are they going to run 8 schools? All the years of Roosevelt's great tradition and history will be destroyed by outsiders. Today the Mayor held a news conference at Roosevelt High School calling for the public to support another bond measure to build small charter schools. Caprice young, "Ms. Charter School" herself was there, as well as Steve "Green Dot" Barr, and representatives for Eli Broad and Dick Riordan were also on hand. "La Gorda" Monica Garcia and Vice Admiral Brewer were on hand to lend support to this new scheme. No teachers, no parents from Roosevelt, no community members, or union officials were invited. This is but another move to privatize and and destroy public education so that people like Steve Barr and Eli Broad and their corporate buddies can make a profit at the expense of public education. The sad fact is that with all the previous monies and bond measures , no high school has yet to be built in Boyle Heights. And now they are asking for more money. By the way,I was surprized not to see Fabian Nunez there. He loves the corporate sector and their money. He is such a lovable shyster.
Someone mentioned, that because many students are not fluent in English, they are bringing the achievement level down. Instead of blaming immigrant students, the District should offer vocational and high technical jobs and training to these students. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that the high drop-out rate is because students have to work. 75% of the LAUD population is now Mexican/Latino. Their needs on an educational and cultural level must be met or these students will only have options: prision, gangs, or working at Walmart.

3:21: "All the years of Roosevelt's tradition and great history will be destroyed by outsiders." Please -- the school isn't graduating half the kids there, and your rambling on and on about how we "shouldn't blame the illegal immigrants for not speaking English and ruining the schools" but should provide more money for more programs etc., shows you're one of THEM.

The Mayor went to Roosevelt, so he's not an "outsider," and while I think it's stupid that he's putting all his eggs in a few baskets, that of a few failing schools full of immigrants and mostly Anchor Babies or illegal kids themselves, your arguments are truly stupid.

You also don't get the point of what he and his "new Board Pres" Monica Garcia and Yolie Flores are trying to push through: they're not supporting real Charters (which have some independence from LAUSD and UTLA, that's the whole point), but trying to compete with them by building similarly small schools with OUR bond money. So I agree we should vote NO for more bond money for buildings -- LAUSD has more than enough of those, in all the wrong places, plus that monstrously expensive and ugly Broad Performing Arts School downtown, requiring all the kids to be bused there -- but for opposite reasons. WE SHOULD BUST UP LAUSD INTO MANY DISTRICTS.
I don't want my tax dollars going to these experiments and illegals, while our kids are neglected for crazy, socialist, ethno-centric PC reasons.

Good for Tamar Galatzan, not being as stupid as Garcia and Flores -- she points out in LAUSD meetings that even if the buildings are smaller, if nothing else changes about how they teach and run the schools, all the money will be wasted, so why blow billions more on buildings?

Instead, LAUSD and UTLA must allow real parental choice and stop trying to prevent charters from opening up to make up for the lack of decent LAUSD schools in most of the city -- middle class people are fed up with subsidizing illegals and getting nothing back for themselves. (HOWEVER, Charters are also successful in South L A, and any area where parents work with teachers and Administrators to pull them together.)

While you fools all sit around here in a circle jerk, Antonio Villaraigosa is the Mayor of Los Angeles, and is headed toward a primary victory against virtual unknowns.

Why?

Because he has done things that lots of people like, such as:

1) Gotten cranes all over Los Angeles, constructing new buuldings and providing jobs for thousands of otherwise unemeployed workers.

2) Caused real change in the schools, and got people to support that change.

3) Changed the dead wood at Los Angeles World Airports by bringing on a world class General Manager, Gina Marie Lindsey, who is cleaning house and making the place work properly. While you fools blog, she has launched a $10 Billion midfield terminal project and is undeway.

4) Cleaned house at Los Angeles Harbor by getting a world class General Manager in Geraldine Knatz who is doing a great job turning the harbor green and increasing buisiness at the same time.

5) Got rid of Ron Deaton at LADWP and installed David Nahai who, despite the foolishness over his personal water and electric bills at his hoome is doing a great job making the utility green and run properly while weaning us off coal.

6) Changed most Commissioners, including Police, Public Works, CRA, and just about everywhere else you can imagine to get rid of the wholesale corruption and influence peddling that were mostly attributed to the Hahn Administration and included such folks as Leland Wong (now on trial) and difficult folks like Ted Stein, Bill Wardlaw and a host of other minor players controlled by Troy Edwards and person or persons unnamed.

Your memories are short and you deserve whatever happens to you, but know that Mayor Villaraigosa, whether everyone who reads this blog votes for him or not, will be reelected in the primary election, so get used to it for another four and a half years.

One very well HAS to get used to the fact, because its for damned sure their birth country isn't going to "reclaim" them. Mexico is smarter than that. Why should they attempt to cure the "disease" that hampers their silent enemy? Face it Mexico is run by, consumed by the essence of their being: greed. I see it in many ways comparable to Fidel Castro's Mariel Boatlift, but on a far grander scale. This grand caper is bringing our once great country to her knees, and these traitorous "reconquistas" are fully culpable and need to be shoveled back across the border just like their undocumented cousins.

Of course this will never happen because we are a kinder and gentler nation. Our sensitivities exceed our ability to see clearly, and we will be all but consumed by the starving rabble. It's almost a foregone end, and it is fitting that those who brought her down will complain and cry the loudest when she shudders and sinks.

Keep your balls in their sack and your powder dry. there may be a chance that one can put a bead on the scoundrels who facilitated our demise.

And your response is TRULY (that's the correct spelling)Quixote-istic. You decry "racism" at the drop of a sombrero, and exhort all the benefits of an open border policy. Illegal aliens doesn't belong in parenthesis. It is a fact not a theory. Mexico is oozing people like a wound oozes pus. It's likely though that the nasty influx will eventually denigrate the desirability of coming here and the rabble will migrate elsewhere. I suggest the Pacific, but that's just me.

no one will run against tony because the times and roderick still love him, and the fact that he's gone more than "travelin' sam" yorty or tom bradley combined, hasn't done anything but raise trash fees to the legal maximum because he doesn't know how to balance budgets
(remember he was in charge of the assembly in sacramento, and made a fool of himself while making fools of everybody who supported him won't matter. On with the show.
