A Laundry List of Taxes

Though the deadline has passed to put measures on the November ballot in California, the State Legislature and other government bodies can waive those deadlines to put a boatload of tax and bond measures to voters.  Among the soak the taxpayers plans on or potentiallly coming to the ballot include:

California Veterans' Housing Bond

California High Speed Passenger Rail Bond

California Children's Hospital Bond

California Alternative Energy Vehicles Bond

City of Los Angeles $30 Million Gang Tax

LA Community College Construction and "Green Technology" $3.5 Billion Bond

LAUSD $3.2 Billion Property Tax Increase for Construction

MTA Half-Cent Sales Tax for Transportation (which they round up by the way)

City of LA Personal Income Tax? (Also known as the "Occupational License Fee")

Of course there a ton of other fees the politicians can raise without your vote such as the trash tax and DWP rate increases.

So when is enough enough? When do we tell the politicians no more?

does it seem the Ethics Commission has it out for Cardenas or is he trying to spin. I have to say the Daily News is going down the toliet with the new Mecha Editor Garcia. Notice all the illegal immigrant stories and praise for TJ Rose Gloria Romero? BOYCOTT AND DON'T BUY IT ANYMORE

...Ethics panel ponders hike in penalties for Cardenas
..Frustrated with repeat campaign finance violations by Councilman Tony Cardenas, the Los Angeles Ethics Commission asked its staff Tuesday to consider at least tripling proposed fines for accepting excess campaign contributions.

Commission staff had proposed fining Cardenas $2,050 for accepting $500 in excess contributions from three donors and for failing to submit two scripts of automated phone calls made before his 2006 re-election.

Social Security Changes

It does not matter if you personally like or dislike Bush. You need to sign this petition and flood his e-mail box with e-mails that tell him that, even if the House passes this bill, he needs to veto it. It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If the government gives benefits to "illegal" aliens who have never contributed, where
Does that leave those of us who have paid into Social Security all our working lives? As stated below, the Senate voted this week to allow "illegal" aliens access to Social Security benefits. Attached is an opportunity to sign a petition that requires citizenship for eligibility
To that social service.

Instructions are below.

If you don't forward the petition and just stop it, we will lose all these names. If you do no t want to sign it, please just forward it to everyone you know.
Thank you!

PETITION for President Bush :
Dear Mr. President:
We, the undersigned, protest the bill that the Senate voted on
Recently which would allow illegal aliens to access our Social Security.
We demand that you and all Congressional representatives require
Citizenship as a prerequisite for social services in the United States .
We further demand that there not be any amnesty given to illegals, NO
Free services, no funding, no payments to and for illegal immigrants.
We are fed up with the lack of action about this matter and are tired
Of paying for services to illegals.

Cardenas singled out by the Ethics Commission? The question is, why haven't they pursued him before?

See the L A Weekly article, "LA Becomes A Slumlord," about how he and Jan Perry personally not only promoted but intervened with CRA to get a friend of theirs, a major contributor, MILLIONS in CRA funds to "redo" a slum he owned into affordable housing, i.e., letting him kick out the truly poor, elderly and mentally unstable in order to charge higher rents. The head of the CRA initially opposed it as did other members who worried about the "unprecedented" pressure, but after Cardenas allegedly made some calls here and there to higher powers, the CRA caved.

According to the Times, the feds are investigating. Also, they determined the evictions were illegal and the city has spent a lot of time and money trying to track down those unlawfully evicted. It was precisely those who could least afford to fend for themselves on the streets, who were easiest to kick out.

The Weekly makes a good case that we are paying many millions so the city can be partners with a slumlord just cuz he's made donations to Cardenas and Perry.

10:57am- this is nearly the same post that you have at LAdailyblog- http://ladailyblog.blogspot.com/ - punctuation suggestion, add a comma after "shit" to avoid an unintended meaning.

What's exactly is the dispute?

If someone is not due any benefits and that is no surprise, as with illegal aliens who by definition have not followed the law, why is there any unfairness?

Illegal conduct plus more illegal conduct should not produce a reward, nor should that be a shock, especially if a contrary result would be detriment to citizens and legal residents in the system.

Just let me add to your excellent post:

1.) Both candidates will rush to bestow amnesty on Millions of illegals...they don't even know how many are here, but we know it's more than 12M! Closer to 40M!

2.) Included with amnesty will be the Z-Visa...which will allow the
FAMILIES...the children, siblings, and parents of every single IA...IMMEDIATE permanent legal status...once they come here for FAMILY RENUNIFICATION. CHAIN MIGRATION will be the death of this country! How many illegals from ALL OVER THE WORLD will be rushing to the US???

3.) Once the elderly (over 65) parents of the illegals get here, they will be elligible for Social Security AND Medicare...immediately...even though they have NEVER worked a day of their lives in this country!

Not only will Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid be bankrupted...the country will fall into a great depression because it cannot sustain the tsunami of MILLIONS more THIRD WORLD PEASANTS!

Amnesty is the death knell for this country...can you spell
"C A L C U T T A " ????

You stupido campesino...Unless you were here 200 years ago, you didn't build anything!

But, from the looks of things, everything that has been built in the last 10-15 years (since all of you poor Mexicans started slithering over the border)...the houses are falling apart..cheap construction and cheap labor!

There's an old saying...You get what you pay for...and there is no way I would buy a house built in the last few years!

Why don't you all go back to Mexico and fix up your own country??? You made some big bucks while you were here...now go invest it in your own country! You could use some paved roads and indoor plumbing...for openers!

There are billions of people who are poorer than Mexicans, and they would APPRCIATE the opportunity to come to America and join the cheap labor pool...YOU AND YOUR PEOPLE DO NOT APPRCIATE ANYTHING...YOU THINK WE OWE YOU A LIVING! WRONG! WE DON'T OWE YOU A THING! YOU SHOULD GET DOWN ON YOUR HANDS AND KNEES AND KISS THE GROUND YOU ARE WALKING ON...OR GO BACK TO YOUR FILTHY CESSPOOL IN MEXICO!

You have degraded our neighborhoods, and now L.A. looks just like the slums of Tijuana...THANKS!!!

Some locals in Van Nuys allege Cardenas is skimming from the Van Nuys airport, while it's going into the red...

Reports are that Nunez "Mexican Under a Cactus" is gearing up to run for Reyes seat -- fundraising already. Noone could be any worse, but hardly an improvement, either. (French wine and food sales in the district ought to go up.)

Of course Cardenas didn't have to cheat to get re-elected. That's nearly an automatic for incumbents. There's just something about what happens to people once they get elected to the City Council. It's an unsatiable need for more power and more money, and a feeling that the rules don't apply to them, only to those who challenge them.

For gawd's sake, there MUST be a way to keep these crooks from playing musical chairs! WE ALL KNOW HOW CORRUPT THEY ARE...ISN'T THERE A CRIMINAL INDICTMENT THAT CAN BE BROUGHT AGAINST THEM????

They should ALL be behind bars on RICO (and other) charges!

We need to get a petition going to prevent them from serving more than 4 years; AND...THEY MUST BE BANNED FROM SERVING IN ANY CAPACITY IN ANY OTHER PUBLIC OFFICE...OR APPOINTED OFFICE!

GAWD!!! GET THEM THE HELL OUT OF L.A. !!!! We need some good, old-fashioned red blooded Americans to run this city!!! REYES, ALARACON, CARDENAS, NUNEZ, VILLAR, HUIZAR,PADILLA, FUENTES ....ALL GANGBANGERS...ALL OF THEM!!! THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN BE IN THIS COUNTRY!

To tell you the truth, there was some cheating going on during Cardenas' campaign, but I doubt he had any involvement.

But there were tons of people who went to the polls near closing all over his district and if Dan Logan or Jose Lopez hadn't voted yet - all of the people from the Cardenas campaign had those people covered. Many people who voted don't know who they voted for.
