Villaraigosa to meet with Obama in Miami.....and raise cash in the weeks ahead
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will be granted a closed door meeting with Presidential Candidate Barack Obama this weekend in Miami. Villaraigosa and Obama will both be attending the Mayor's Conference in the city.Villaraigosa and Obama's discussion will center on what role the mayor will play in Obama's Campaign, and in extention members of "Team Villar", ie. Parke, Ace, Espinosa and Trujillo. The mayor's long time friend and confidant Labor Leader Maria Elena Durazo was a National Co-Chair for the Obama Campaign which should help grease details of coordination.
Locally, Obama's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, will be campaigning on his behalf this Saturday at a lunch saluting his volunteers and begin the effort for the Nov. 3 election.Soetoro-Ng will be at Hecho en Mexico, 4976 Huntington Drive, Los Angeles, starting at 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Tony's there to be a speaker at the National Conference of Mayors. He and the Mayors of Oakland and Portland (or is it Seattle?) urge the other Mayors to oppose ICE raids on "law abiding businesses," per USA Today. The Mayor of Danbury, CT, points out businesses who hire illegals are not "law abiding."
The illegal problem here in L A is HUGE, and while it's fair to pin the blame on the feds for not enforcing policy, plenty of our local and Assembly Hispanics and their supports actively discourage any distinction between legal and illegal.
Gavin Newsom, who's made San Fran a "Sanctuary City" which literally invites illegals, is NOT speaking out at the Mayor's conference. He's letting Antonio and the other two look like leftwing wingnuts to discredit them nationally. Doesn't anyone on Antonio's staff WARN HIM that he's undermining himself, that his view is hugely unpopular in the country?
Obama isn't that stupid - he is talking to the mayor of the laregest hispanic city this ide of Mexico City - not to Antonio Villaraigosa. The person that holds sway in L.A. and California for Obama is Xavier Becerra, an early supporter.
Being courteous is not being stupid and at that closed door meeting Obama will put Tony in his place when he starts begging for a cabinet position.
Remember that old saying in politics, "keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer." Obama will skewer Antonio before Antonio knows what hit him.

Too bad we can't say the same for Janelle Erickson.
Villaraigosa defended his Israel trip earlier this week, saying he is a global leader, not the mayor of "some small town in the desert somewhere." Deputy Mayor Janelle Erickson said Villaraigosa remains focused on his job, including continuing the expansion of the Los Angeles Police Department and getting the Department of Water and Power to approve new water conservation rules.
"There's no big city mayor who works harder," she said.
Deputy Mayor Janelle Erickson is probably NEEDED by absentee Mayor Tony V. even more than expected because he is not here to handle things in a timely manner.
All Villar is doing is digging his hole deeper when he thinks he's constructing some sort of foundation for future political plans.
He has a track record that speaks louder than his broken promises and outright lies. Spinning about the reason for the Israel trip? That was 100% predictable.
And what do we get? Israel's ideas on airport security? They use soldiers with serious weapons, PROFILING and challenging to eliminate threats. HOW could Mayor Tony, with his ingrained ACLU views even consider what a real safety program would mean. I doubt he's ready to request soldiers posted at airports.
All part of the deceit he is associated with, even generated. Prop. S? Prob. R? Did you forget about the Trash fees boost, cancelling step-up intervals and moving the charges up?

Isn't Jimmy Blackman running the roost in AV's never ending absence? Oh wait, I think Jimmy is busy doing the women in the office, bonding with the under aged naive Council field deputies (who have less of an idea what this city needs than him) and making deals with potential donors regardless of the negative impact.
Let’s not forget Mayor Villaraigosa had previously endorsed two Democratic Presidential Candidates, Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Hillary Clinton, and both Kerry and “Hillary Rod” were defeated. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama needs to take this into consideration if Obama wants a victory. Obama should allow Villaraigosa to stay in LA and take care of City business.
How many undecided Angelenos would vote for Obama if he told Antonio to stay home and do his job?
Then again, do we really want him to return?
I agree that 6:37's comments are some of the most insightful I've read here in a long time. I would love to hear Villar forced to respond to those comments. I guess it would be something like this...

Actually, 6:37 and camp followers: Israel does NOT rely on heavily armed military presence at its airports for security -- they don't strip down their passengers, make them go barefoot or rip apart the wrapping on the presents of their birthday packages, all with a gruff attitude like you're being processed for jail.
That's the United States now.
Israel has always relied on questioning its passengers, including those that seem intrusive and "none of your business," like why you're transiting in a certain place and why and where you're going the rest of your trip...They have been gruff about it, too, but not military-style rude.
You're right on one thing: they do profile. Not just Arab men, but single women in church groups were singled out for tough questions when I was there after a couple of them (repressed old maid types) fell for being sweet-talked by a couple of young, cute Palestinians and unknowingly ended up being "pigeons" for them.
This refusal to profile we have, so that babies and old senile men are subjected to the same humiliations, is just f-ed up, screw the ACLU.
And patting down women's breasts in public and their inner thighs, is not done in ANY other "civilized" country and makes me want to punch them - I can imagine how a Muslim feels watching this happen to his woman or mother.
To those who say "America's the best" and we don't need help, you're truly ignorant. Our approach is crude, expensive and only creates stress and a horrible flying experience. Compared to this, Israel feels thorough but you don't leave feeling violated.
I like this Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa. Ha has a nice smile and he seems concerned for what transpires on the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles. He just lately carried the good wishes of the people of Southern California to the people of Israel.I would vote for him, but I live in Texas and had half my head blown off when a split rim wheel jumped its mount. Why would Barack need Antonio? Anyone Villar brings to Obama would be voting for Obama anyway? (Especially if Richardson is VP. But even if not, it's the same crowd.)

He can't even manage to sychronize a street light or repair the broken streets. He has spent more on his personal travel than any other mayor in history. He has poured billions of our taxdollars into schools and medical for illegals. .

L.A. is now #17 (down from #10) as an economic power. It's off the top 10 list. The schools are rated 47 out of 50. We are the gang capitol of the world. We have more illegals than the entire country, collectively. AND WE ARE BANKRUPT...ROBBED AND PILLAGED by Villar and his Mexican mafia!
