Villaraigosa to meet with Obama in Miami.....and raise cash in the weeks ahead

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will be granted a closed door meeting with Presidential Candidate Barack Obama this weekend in Miami. Villaraigosa and Obama will both be attending the Mayor's Conference in the city.

Villaraigosa and Obama's discussion will center on what role the mayor will play in Obama's Campaign, and in extention members of "Team Villar", ie. Parke, Ace, Espinosa and Trujillo. The mayor's long time friend and confidant Labor Leader Maria Elena Durazo was a National Co-Chair for the Obama Campaign which should help grease details of coordination.

Locally, Obama's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, will be campaigning on his behalf this Saturday at a lunch saluting his volunteers and begin the effort for the Nov. 3 election.Soetoro-Ng will be at Hecho en Mexico, 4976 Huntington Drive, Los Angeles, starting at 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. As noted by Rick Orlov of the Dail News.
.........and in the weeks ahead, don't go looking for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on the "Third Floor" as he travels in search of cash for his re-election campaign, Zahniser has the details.
Villaraigosa and other big-city mayors will get an audience on Saturday
with Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.
On the same day, Villaraigosa will raise money for his reelection at the Indian Creek
Island, Fla., home of Bernard Klepach, chairman and chief executive of the
airport concession company known as DFASS Group, or Duty Free Air and Ship
Supply.
......More Breaking Villaraigosa News
KFI's Eric Leonard reports that the Mayor's Trip to Israel cost Los Angeles taxpayers $240,000 split between the Ports, Airports, and DWP Departments.

It is going to be SO MUCH FUN watching Obama lose, and Villaraigosa finally lose this last shred of clout.

He has frittered away time that he OWES to the City of Los Angeles.

Walter, et al, should NAIL his midget ass over such waste in the debates! Walter, my man, please show how he promised to deliver on those campaign efforts and FAILED and WASTED the City's time.

You will win in a cakewalk if you do this, Walter, on this and other issues.

I think Obama doesn't realize how disrespected villar is in the Latino community. Especially among the women.

Lots of luck, if he thinks this will help. It won't. And it will cost him dearly.

Tony's there to be a speaker at the National Conference of Mayors. He and the Mayors of Oakland and Portland (or is it Seattle?) urge the other Mayors to oppose ICE raids on "law abiding businesses," per USA Today. The Mayor of Danbury, CT, points out businesses who hire illegals are not "law abiding."

The illegal problem here in L A is HUGE, and while it's fair to pin the blame on the feds for not enforcing policy, plenty of our local and Assembly Hispanics and their supports actively discourage any distinction between legal and illegal.

Gavin Newsom, who's made San Fran a "Sanctuary City" which literally invites illegals, is NOT speaking out at the Mayor's conference. He's letting Antonio and the other two look like leftwing wingnuts to discredit them nationally. Doesn't anyone on Antonio's staff WARN HIM that he's undermining himself, that his view is hugely unpopular in the country?

Obama isn't that stupid - he is talking to the mayor of the laregest hispanic city this ide of Mexico City - not to Antonio Villaraigosa. The person that holds sway in L.A. and California for Obama is Xavier Becerra, an early supporter.

Being courteous is not being stupid and at that closed door meeting Obama will put Tony in his place when he starts begging for a cabinet position.

Remember that old saying in politics, "keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer." Obama will skewer Antonio before Antonio knows what hit him.

Too bad we can't say the same for Janelle Erickson.

Villaraigosa defended his Israel trip earlier this week, saying he is a global leader, not the mayor of "some small town in the desert somewhere." Deputy Mayor Janelle Erickson said Villaraigosa remains focused on his job, including continuing the expansion of the Los Angeles Police Department and getting the Department of Water and Power to approve new water conservation rules.

"There's no big city mayor who works harder," she said.

Deputy Mayor Janelle Erickson is probably NEEDED by absentee Mayor Tony V. even more than expected because he is not here to handle things in a timely manner.

All Villar is doing is digging his hole deeper when he thinks he's constructing some sort of foundation for future political plans.

He has a track record that speaks louder than his broken promises and outright lies. Spinning about the reason for the Israel trip? That was 100% predictable.

And what do we get? Israel's ideas on airport security? They use soldiers with serious weapons, PROFILING and challenging to eliminate threats. HOW could Mayor Tony, with his ingrained ACLU views even consider what a real safety program would mean. I doubt he's ready to request soldiers posted at airports.

All part of the deceit he is associated with, even generated. Prop. S? Prob. R? Did you forget about the Trash fees boost, cancelling step-up intervals and moving the charges up?

The sooner we look to other candidates, the better. This mayor is an ego maniac and will not ever withdraw of his own accord, even if that was absolutely proven to him as the BEST thing for this city.

It's all about Tony. It always was.

Let’s not forget Mayor Villaraigosa had previously endorsed two Democratic Presidential Candidates, Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Hillary Clinton, and both Kerry and “Hillary Rod” were defeated. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama needs to take this into consideration if Obama wants a victory. Obama should allow Villaraigosa to stay in LA and take care of City business.

I agree that 6:37's comments are some of the most insightful I've read here in a long time. I would love to hear Villar forced to respond to those comments. I guess it would be something like this...

"Uh....Ah....Uh....Ah.....I'm sorry we're out of time."

Actually, 6:37 and camp followers: Israel does NOT rely on heavily armed military presence at its airports for security -- they don't strip down their passengers, make them go barefoot or rip apart the wrapping on the presents of their birthday packages, all with a gruff attitude like you're being processed for jail.

That's the United States now.

Israel has always relied on questioning its passengers, including those that seem intrusive and "none of your business," like why you're transiting in a certain place and why and where you're going the rest of your trip...They have been gruff about it, too, but not military-style rude.

You're right on one thing: they do profile. Not just Arab men, but single women in church groups were singled out for tough questions when I was there after a couple of them (repressed old maid types) fell for being sweet-talked by a couple of young, cute Palestinians and unknowingly ended up being "pigeons" for them.

This refusal to profile we have, so that babies and old senile men are subjected to the same humiliations, is just f-ed up, screw the ACLU.

And patting down women's breasts in public and their inner thighs, is not done in ANY other "civilized" country and makes me want to punch them - I can imagine how a Muslim feels watching this happen to his woman or mother.

To those who say "America's the best" and we don't need help, you're truly ignorant. Our approach is crude, expensive and only creates stress and a horrible flying experience. Compared to this, Israel feels thorough but you don't leave feeling violated.

I like this Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa. Ha has a nice smile and he seems concerned for what transpires on the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles. He just lately carried the good wishes of the people of Southern California to the people of Israel.I would vote for him, but I live in Texas and had half my head blown off when a split rim wheel jumped its mount. Long story , but the Doc said the damage would subside. I like your Mayor. He's a good man!

Why would Barack need Antonio? Anyone Villar brings to Obama would be voting for Obama anyway? (Especially if Richardson is VP. But even if not, it's the same crowd.)

And if the gadflies of Los Angeles know about the mayor and all the whatnot, I would hope the Obama campaign strategists would know, as well.

If Obama attaches his cart to Antonio, then I guess I'll be adding "Barack Obama" to people I mention on City TV 35.

"Talk about being 'bamboozled'! First Eric Garcetti, now Antonio Villaraigosa. I guess Obama has been too busy flying all across the country campaigning for President to find out exactly what just happened to the City of Los Angeles under Mayor Villaraigosa and Council President Eric Garcetti. I don't know...maybe Obama is a little too green and naive to be dealing with these shady internatioal leaders he will be negotiating with. If these two clowns can bamboozle Barack...imaging what the rest of the world will be pulling."

BUT HOPEFULLY, June 20, 2008 4:54 PM is right and Barack ain't no fool. And I hope you are right about X. Becerra. I see his name on some things I like. From what I know, so far about him...I think he is independent of the Villar/Nunez/alarCON crowd.

Don't be bamboozled by Becerra! He is every bit as dangerous as Villar...the difference being he is more articulate and possesses a higher IQ. He works behind the scenes and flies under the radar, but he is a dyed in the wool Reconquista with blind ambition.

As far as asshole Villar being a "global leader"...that's the best laugh I've heard all year! He is delusional! He has squandered the largest revenues in the history of LA; raised taxes more than any mayor in the history of LA; supports, aids and abets his fellow gangbangers, etc.

He can't even manage to sychronize a street light or repair the broken streets. He has spent more on his personal travel than any other mayor in history. He has poured billions of our taxdollars into schools and medical for illegals. .

This city has become so third world and dumbed down just in the 4 years that Villar has been in office...it's shocking! Travel agents have scratched LA off their itineraries.

The only hope Villar has left is to get the Chinese to pick up the tab for the fiasco called L.A. Live and the Grand Ave. Project.

The stupid fool still thinks downtown LA can be like downtown San Fran or Manhattan! Is he nuts or something????

I don't think the cholo has ever been out of East LA until he became mayor. He certainly ain't no world traveler and probably coudn't name the other 49 States.

His lack of education and breeding is patently obvious... he ain't no global leader. What a joke! You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear...

When half of your constituency is third world, illiterate, itinerant, and ILLEGAL, non English speaking...you can say almost anything and get away with it. He keeps forgetting about the rest of us...we will NOT let him get away with it!

Tom LaBong is in Germany and France, doing what? Greig Smith's trip with the staffers of Cardenas and Rosesndahl is lasting a full month, and goes to 7 expensive countries, from Europe to Japan. Costing how much, to study trash?

Here's the topper: Janice Hahn, in the guise of heading the Trade and Commerce Comm., just came back not only from Israel and various countries in Europe, but the all-important trade towns of Ischia, Italy (a small, poor Island that she's gone out of her way to "adopt") and Croatia. Why, you may ask? San Pedro has the biggest concentration of people from these two areas in Calif, maybe the western U.S. Including the parents of Nuch Trutanuch, the NRA Republican from Harbor area who's running for CA. (The guy's website has SOoooo much info of the small- town variety, including about his 4 "overachieving kids." As the kid of poor immigrants, that may be how he feels, but how vulgar is that?) Wonder if Janice is pandering to him IN ADDITION TO ALL 10,000 Croatian-Ischians on YOUR dollar.

But the Mayor gets all the dumping. I don't like the guy, and his saying he's not the "mayor of some small desert town" sounded almost s dumb as Nunez' Mexican-sleeping- under- a cactus- crack. Insecure Mexicans, and no wonder, everyone's aware of how hard they've tried to pull themselves up and show off -- no more than many others, though, like that Nuch Trout guy. However, if you look at the Mayors of Chicago or NYC, he's right, they travel a lot more -- this town still thinks like a small hicktown.

You say that L.A. is not a small, hick town but...the so-called mayor is a two-bit punk cholo who is uneducated, inarticulate, and dumb as a door know. He's got a PhD in swindling and kleptocracy, but outside of that...you couldn't tell him apart from a waiter at El Cholo's. He is utterly CLASSLESS!

Thus...LA is not only a hick town now...it's as bad or worse than Tijuana with the drug cartel gangsters on the border. Only the gangsters in city hall wear $3000 suits instead of baggy pants.

L.A. is now #17 (down from #10) as an economic power. It's off the top 10 list. The schools are rated 47 out of 50. We are the gang capitol of the world. We have more illegals than the entire country, collectively. AND WE ARE BANKRUPT...ROBBED AND PILLAGED by Villar and his Mexican mafia!

Hick town??? how about Tortilla Flats!!!!
