Round Two of Neighborhood Council Elections schedule for June 21

Round Two of the City of Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Elections will take place this Saturday, June 21 in locations around the city.

Elections as administer by the City Clerk's Office will be held in the following Neighborhood Council areas,(click links to see list of candidates)
Greater Griffith Park (Donna Barstow has her recommendations on the blog "Griffith Park, Interrupted")

In news from last week's elections, mail-in ballots were not counted in the unofficial votes total last week.

Further a canvass of the votes in Lincoln Heights and Greater Echo Park (WWG blogger Jenny Burman has thoughts on this election) will take place this morning at 9:00 AM at the City Clerk's Office located in the Piper Tech Complex.
.....and this about a certain candidate for the Greater Griffith Park Neighborhood Council.
YES - the big race is in the Greater Griffith Park NC. Nyla Arslanian, a woman who makes her money off of City arts projects, is trying to steal the Griffith Park-specific seat. She's running against our parks chairman and a parks committee member and is a LaBong ass-kisser of the highest order. I would love to investigate this person more carefully. She's already been identified as having conflicts of interest between her income and her previously representing Arts & Culture on the GGPNC board. Ms. Arslanian is the worst thing that could happen to Griffith Park. In the five or so years I've observed her, she's LaBong's YES GAL. Her lips are permanently afixed to his ample butt. Bad bad bad.
...and some background info.
Nyla Arslanian is Editor of Discover Hollywood Magazine and President of the Hollywood Arts Council. The Council was formed in 1978 to address the role the arts would play in Hollywood’s revitalization. The Councilcontinues to be involved to keep the arts at the forefront of community life. Highlights of the Hollywood Arts Council’s accomplishments throughthe years include the Children’s Festival of the Arts, outdoor art shows, promoting the wealth of arts activities available through DiscoverHollywood Magazine, the new upcoming Rock n Roll Pilgrimage Concert in August and its annual Charlie Awards Luncheon held in the beginning of theyear. Project S.O.A.R. (Students Overcoming All Risks), the Council’safter school program, provides over 2,000 3rd, 4th and 5th graders withquality art instruction and an opportunity to explore their own creativity. The Council relies on donations and its volunteers to carry out its programs. Everyone interested in the arts and in the unique culture of Hollywood is invited to join. The Hollywood Arts Council has emerged asthe voice for Hollywood's unique culture and a strong advocate for theimpact arts can have on the life of a community. The Council has renew edits dedication to promoting, nurturing and supporting the arts and isevolving to meet new challenges and opportunities.
Hmmm. "LaBong" working on the plants.......

So mail-in ballots have not been counted yet? Then what was the point of the city releasing election results last week? Who made that brilliant decision?

It's the same way it's done in governmental elections. Also, in some races there may not be enough mail-in ballots to affect the outcome.

That's because the city clerk office was not expecting a challenge.

FYI folks,

Mid City WEST's election is NOT June 21. I know the initial webpage has us grouped with Region 2, on June 21, but is July 1. Still run by the City Clerk, but it is July 1.

We got it rescheduled because a significant percentage of our voters could not vote on Saturday and we did not want them to be disenfranchised.

Thank you,

MCWCC Election Cmte Chair

City Clerk-run balloting is suffering from ELECTile Dysfunction.

Well, how smart was that? Anyone running and election - especially for the first time should expect a challenge, especially as contentious as these neighborhood elctions are.

This is weird in many neighborhood councils the absentees make up the majority of the votes. How could you think of not counting them?

Well at least after the next batch of NC elections, the boys and girls at the city clerk's office can take a time out for two years and think about it. And think of what they missed until 2010.

What do you want to bet no one at the City Clerk office ever even attended an NC meeting, even in their own home areas, let along been involved as one in a stakeholder. And the city was encouraging its employees a couple years ago to be involved in their NCs, and most never even bothered.

"It's the same way it's done in governmental elections."

These ARE governmental elections. These aren't NIMBY self-appointed homeowners assocations. Each NC is paid for by city taxpayer money and has to jump through hoops to be certified, stay certified, get their money, spend their money, and hold elections. Some NC people are more regulated in what they try to do for their neighborhoods than the candidates for City Council are.

Who challenged the election? That would be a good bit of information to put out there. We're not going to read it in the Times or Daily News - probably not even tomorrow's CityWatch, but Greg Nelson will have a "damning" op-ed piece about it, the read-between-the-lines message of every sentence being "I would have handled this much better."

(But, he didn't. The main reason NC elections went to City Clerk was because of how poorly his administration handled the first couple hundred.)

So, just don't "buy" that.

This on Jose Sagala who is related by marriage to LHNC's David Galaviz.

As for Sigala, he was likely behind the Greater Echo-Elysian voter fraud.
He is now the new NC president. His missus was also elected by garbage bags
of votes that were turned in. The guy WORKS FOR A CITY COUNCILMEMBER. If
this isn't conflict of interest, I don't know what is.

Yeah, Sagala is an aide for Zorro Marxist.

How come is it that whenever one of the locals from Lincoln Heights posts something about their election here is always mostly personal attacks and name-calling?

Is this community divided into two armed camps? Is there anyone on EITHER side doing anything to try and patch up the rift between what is probably two relatively wel-meaning groups of activist?

Maybe they need UN peacekeepers instead of a neighborhood council.

Felicidades Acostada - lives where? Boyle Heights!!

And the list can go on and on - Jesse Rosas is from . . . Highland Park!!!

1. There would be little reason to count mail-in ballots if there weren't enough of them to affect the outcome.

2. It is the procedure of the City Clerk to post the semi-official results before mail-ins are counted because of the angst that people have to know some sort of the result, and because this is the way the City Clerk does it in elections that are controlled by state election law. Do like that better than the word "governmental" elections?

3. Quite a few of those working on NC elections in the Clerk's office have extensive NC experience.

So Jose Sagala, aide to the Zorro Marxist, is head of Echo-Elysian NC?

No wonder Alarcon is "such a big friend to the NC system," his partner in stupidity and fleece-the-"anglos" Janice Hahn likes to boast. Is there anything the Zorro Marxist is NOT involved in?

(Yes, I know she's technically an "anglo," but to keep her job in South L A she and her whole family try to fleece the whites from the westside and valley and throw patronage money into the hood, from fee-waived block parties and festivals to paying gangmembers to control the gang problems -- better than the African- Americans even.)

CityWatch reports on what's been said for weeks: someone from the South L A NC allegedly absconded with some $30, 000, and there are are two other cases pending.

Says new DONE chief Bong Wong, they "only have 50 staffers" to monitor some 90 NC's and 1500 Board members.

How much is that in wasted money? Millions/ year in funding to the NC's, then paying 50 people plus Bong Wong to look after all that money and the NC's. And that's not counting what the City Clerk has to spend on elections -- so that we get clowns like these on the East and South Sides.

IF the city decided to do-away with the council system, you would be the first one complaining.

You may like it both ways, but you can't have it both ways.
