Pre-dawn missives for May Day, 2008
Time to rise, face the tomb of Marx, and sing "INTERNATIONALE" for our "brothers and sisters comrades" on this day of the worker.May Day in Los Angeles has evolved from the days of "Meet and Confer" between riot gear wearing members of the LAPD and young communist/anarchists, to now what has become an actual event complete with large scale marches and political pandering to match.
May Day 2006 will always have a place in Angelino political folklore for the utterance of a certain slogan. "WE CLEAN YOUR TOILETS!!", by a then rising, and going places political leader.
In 2008, the likes of Fabian Nunez, Ed Reyes, Gil Cedillo, Dov Charney and Larry "Nativo" Lopez will take to the streets to remind Americans that no peace, thus no justice, will continue until we legalize/reform our immigration laws and stop the raids by ICE.

The one irony of many on display today is if we had the ability to flash back 20 years, The same unions marching today for immigrant rights (ie. more dues paying members and VOTERS), would of been protesting the impact of illegal immigration on the Blue Collar community, times do change.
The local fishwraps, the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET" and the "MOLDY GREEN SHEET" have column feets of news print dedicated to today's events in downtown and pertinent background information. City Beat remains faithful to its leftist/unionist ideals, and stories about airport contracts, polluted school sites and a LA TIMES/LAPD PR release on gang suppression are just some of the other issues of the day.

Sadly we the legal residents of this city have become the victims of crime from all the illegals here. They have trashed our neighborhoods. The legal employers have become victims at their own hands for hiring illegals who use stolen social security cards. Thuousands have been victims of identity theft because of illegals. With the economy in such a mess no one is talking about the BILLIONS of dollars these damna illegals are spending on welfare, clinics, WIC. LA has become a sanctuary city and the politicans will be out there kissing their asses and disrespecting OUR COUNTRY and ITS OUR AMERICAN FLAG NOT THEIRS. HOW MUCH IS THIS COSTING THE CITY?????
Is this Los Angeles cause I could swear this is Mexico after watching the cable news. This illegal ailen march is getting more coverage then the Rose Parade. I got e-mails from people saying if Villaraigosa goes out to those illegals they will campaign hard against him to the WHITE establishment who donated and put him in office with their money. Everyone should log onto the latimes blog where they are talking about businesses in LA supporting this march. The comments are a backlash saying to boycott. Most of the comments are against these illegals in our city. Remember this when you go to vote for another Mayor.

Watching the Channel 4 coverage of this repulsive looking mass of third worlders makes me want to puke! The only difference between the stinkholes of Mexico, Guatamala, Salvador and LA is the fact that they are contaminating the soil of what was once the most beautiful city in the US! Never in my wildest nightmares did I ever think my city could be so desecrated!

It would be a great story if the lazy reporters would interview the legal Latino senior citizens of this city who speak English and assimilated into this great country. When you speak to them they can't understand why the illegals behave so horribly and disrespectful in this country let alone this city. They will tell you how honored they are to be in US and the pride they fill speaking English and abiding by the laws. They are shocked at the ungratefullness of the illegals and how our city has deteroriated in the last 10 years. These are seniors in their 70', 80's 90's who are proud of being Mexican American and American citizens

I just saw Antonio at a press conf. at MacArthur Park telling the Feds that they should not be raiding companies because if they don't have resources they need to prioritize where they go after illegals. AS if anyone in their right mind should listen to the worst Mayor in the history of LA who got the city in the worst budget deficit in the history of LA.

Watching the Council Budget Commitee Live, Parks wonders if we can cut at least half the funds for El Grito --but Huizar says no, in fact we need MORE money for it, because "we're competing with a smaller neighboring city which has a bigger El Grito, and we have to show them that we can do it better."
REALLY? Which city, and WHY do we have to do it better?
Huizar says we need MORE money, they'd like more private "seed money" since this is a bigger MExican holiday than Cinco de Mayo, which is celebrated in THIS country. (LIKE at Fiesta de Broadway last weekend, which was billed as a pre-Cinco de Mayo fest and cost the city $160,000 PLUS money for cops, street closures and cleanings, etc. etc.)

Earlier, Greig Smith was opposed to cutting caligraphy funds, but they discussed moving some of that work into council offices, decided that would cost MORE money to duplicate what a few skilled people do now.
They sound like orangutangs trying to figure out how to host a tea.
El Grito has tons of vendors outside of the area who have to pay to be involved. I think someone said $300 per booth and last year there were way over 60 booths. Who gets that money???

Just watched all the news top story of this march and I gotta say I'm shocked not that many people came out. There's a lot more cops. Someone on tv said hundreds and hundreds of cops but not that many people. There all on lawn at city hall. Is Antonio going to speak?
Fox Channel 11 is reporting
At midafternoon about 1,500 people were at the starting point of one march and about 1,000 were marching to downtown from MacArthur Park, said Officer Sara Faden at police headquarters.
John & Ken KFI reporting far far less then expected marching towards city hall.

No sign of the Mayor, and Huizar has been largely inside City Hall in the Budget Committee meeting, pleading for more money for El Grito to compete with a smaller, neighboring town who has a bigger one. (Like a certain other thing they wave around to be macho...?) WHO cares, but no one on the committee questioned him, and the millions he wants to turn low-rent TJ Broadway into a "real" Broadway is another boondoggle where he's carrying water for ALL the Mexicans even at a time when Broad's "great vision" for downtown is stalled and will have to be seriously scaled down.
RonKayeLA.com has a piece on how it's been totally misguided to try to force L A to have a downtown that characterizes it like other cities -- westsiders and Vals will never claim it as "theirs" although I do believe, there should be more of a "there, there" for those who go to concerts, MOCA and live there and have lofts, etc. Should be one-two walking/ safe areas. But it will NEVER be "the" downtown, and the Mexican areas will always be to whites a "curiosity" like Olvera St. or Chinatown.
They have to get real about this, while they're cutting Park Rangers (locals around Griffith Park pleading not to), nickel and diming every other "special interest" group.
