Jack,

I could not be happier that this settlement has occurred. The teachers at my child's elementary school in the valley have been holding a job action for months that has meant no staff meetings or other after school meetings. I wonder if teachers were given the choice of either picketing downtown or attending staff meetings, if it would be a moot point.

I sympathize with the teachers that want to let their concerns be known, however, these elementary students that are being affected and effectively under-served, have no say in how quickly the payroll system or any other bureaucratic issue will be solved.

Let's hope that we can get through the rest of the school year without UTLA ordering the teachers to sit on the sidelines to protest another issue outside of the students control.

I guess that if the mayor WASN'T OUT OF TOWN ALL THIS TIME, this could have been resolved much earlier.

Didn't he tell us he was a leader of some merit????

10:39a I agree with you. The students and parents had no control over contentious issues. And I want to express that I appreciate the trouble Jack Hoff is going through to create clever interesting tie-ins on his threads. I didn't get the pinball at first but I did once he explained it.

You have to bring back Zuma Dogg. Even Jim Alger. MEAT! Tofu Girl! A cut and paste feed. Captain Jack! Red Spot's Misspellings! I don't care! Jack Hoff is boring. Just an example that great commenters don't make good bloggers. Get rid of him! Doesn't he write? Do you really want stupid cartoons?

11:34 AM, you are the Obsessive-Delusional Ranter. You people can't turn it off. You fixate on everything and NEED to talk about it. You are the people you have to find an excuse to walk away from occasionally because they just fucking won't shut the hell up. They have an opinion on everything, whether they do or not. Often, their own weblogs are unfocused, blindly-meandering, blatherfests that may start on one topic and end up passing through twenty new topics before finally ending in a non sequitur or some comment about a failed love affair two years ago (-;. You are severely agitated personalities who hunger constantly to express all the myriad thoughts in their head, but often have no one to listen to them or just no one around at the time. You people need a pre-frontal lobotomy followed by a cinderblock head message or a morphine drip and a phat blunt.

For those that don't know, Jack is a professional comedy writer. In his class, we are all assigned to each put out a weekly comment for our grade consideration. Some of this material is absolutely brilliant.

I can't say the same of some of the comments that criticize the fine Hoffian humor. All I can say is grow up or read another blog.

Allllright, everybody, since today's thread theme was Education (albeit education admin), there will be no JackHoff points. Just JackHoff grades... please take a seat...

In general, a much better day on this thread than yesterday's fiasco. Well done.

9:27a -- Made me laugh first thing in the morning. B+

10:39a -- OMG! Actual content?! I don't know if I can handle this! A+

10:46 -- If I said... "tardy," would you catch all of my implied meaning? D for Doubtful.

11:13a -- Go to the head of the class. A

11:14a -- On topic, even brought an apple, and offered helpful criticism. A+

11:34a(1) -- If your index finger isn't too tired from all your huntin' and peckin', scroll over to Zuma's link in the right column under Hot Blogs. Click on it. Theeeere's Zuma! You're in the wrong classroom. Go back to your own grade.

11:34a(2) -- Great to see you, Mrs. Dowd! Matt's in the principal's office. You can find him there.

12:12 -- Change your green card to yellow and consider it a warning. You need to stay on topic and you need to learn how to play well with the others. Otherwise, a suspension on Jack Hoff threads looms.

12:46p -- At least you were following the conversation to a certain degree. C-

1:53p -- No more of that crap. Just stop. Jack Hoff Suspension for a week. Take it seriously. F

2:49p -- Thanks for the defense, but nobody likes a suck-up!! B (and please clean these erasers...)

4:36 -- Awesome that you have finally memorized your line for the Kindergarten Thanksgiving Pageant. Too bad we're in college now. U

Again, a vast improvement over yesterday. Thanks again for playing and see you soon!

These teachers sound like another argument in favor of homeschooling.

If that was banned in California because of one woman's alleged abuse to her kids (a woman who hadn't even finished h.s., very unusual in home school world, where all the parents I knwo are college-educated), then all public schools in California should be banned. Certainly in L A.

Yesterday an assistant principal at Markham Middle in S L A dragged home a 13-year old student and raped her, while some teacher in Van Nuys assaulted several young girl students, the list goes on.

There are the gangs, drugs and sex in most middle schools, even in some good ones.

And even tony private schools like Harvard-Westlake and one in La Jolla were featured in today's L A Times article on severe bullying.

Who's in favor of mandatory public schooling? Why, A J Duffy and the Teacher's unions, of course.
