CRA: A sacred cow that lays golden eggs
Walter Moore responds to a Daily News examination of City Hall’s latest buzz phrase:
Sacred cows run wild in City Hall
The REAL sacred cow is the one they don't even mention: the Community Redevelopment Agency, which is the vehicle through which Villaraigosa and the City Council give $680 million of your money EACH YEAR to the downtown developers who finance their campaigns.

What's the big deal about the DN column? All it says is that City Council has some tough decisions to make. Where was the new information?
Why not just post your own opinion instead of linking to someone else's?

Didn't Antonio appoint his cousin John Perez to this board? Now Perez wants to run for Fabian's seat? Everyone knows there's major corruption in CRA yet not one leader in this city has the guts to go after it. What a bunch of weak idiots we have in this city.
No doubt something happened to your blog Mayor Sam. Noticed not near as many hits since you are monitoring them, and its not so much LA Politics anymore as national. Did someone threaten you for all the Zuma stuff?

The big deal about the DN column is that none of these Clowncil Members want to look in the mirror when it comes to tough decisions.

Officials have suggested a moratorium on such fee waivers to save money, but that idea has hit a wall with the council.
"Everything is on the table and everyone must contribute to the solution," said Matt Szabo, spokesman for Villaraigosa.
"And it starts by getting rid of luxuries like city cars for staff and ending the arbitrary practice of fee waivers for local events."

The only ounce of sanity is coming from Villar's office. Then again, he already got what he wanted from us with Prop S.
Just like he did to the news girl.

Hmmmm... Would this be the same CRA that gave Alice Corona and Teresa Duarte $1.5 million dollars to build the Las Villas restaurant with alcohol and video games next to three schools and two places of worship?
And would this be the same CRA that has one David Galaviz sitting on it's East L.A. advisory board - you know the one who spoke for Las Villas as LHNC president at the recent hearing although over 200 people showed up against it?
Funny how these things begin to intertwine.

The worst thing is that Reyes is the chairperson of PLUM, which controls the Council's planning issues. He's the one pushing for the high-density affordable housing with NO parking for his people in areas like this, already crowded and dangerous. Sure he's like to give gangbangers and their families a chance to move into nice neighborhoods for cheap.
Guess what, the residents there now aren't nearly as pleased about it so he's calling them racist and elitist to embarrass them to back down. Guess they're having sway over the whole Planning Department with all that density crap. I'm fine with more commercial building in commercial or mixed-use buildings where it may actually create mini-villages, and outdoor malls are a California staple. but these kinds of apt. "tenements" and low-class "entertainment centers" are the worst kind of dragging down the city. Sounds like Tijuana.

I notice too that as a moderator you are censoring many blogs. You are taking away our freedom of speech. In the past I did not care for some of those blogs, but I had the choice to read them or skip them. It is very important at this time in history that we protect our freedom of speech that the internet provides. It is a great communication tool. As a moderator you just feed us what you or those that are controlling you want to feed us.
