Obama the New Reagan?

E.J. Dionne Jr. is another favorite of mine and he draws some interesting parallels and analogies between the Reagan and Obama, and their respective juggernauts. Like a raspberry seed you can't just seem to get out of your teeth, the following point stayed with me.

Ronald ReaganObama

"The Reagan metaphor explains why Hillary Clinton was in trouble from the moment she failed to knock Obama out of the race in Iowa. During the past two months, Democrats in large numbers have reached the same conclusion that so many Republicans did in 1980: Now is the time to go for broke, to challenge not only the ruling party but also the governing ideas of the previous political era and the political coalition that allowed them to dominate public life." (emphasis added).

I knew Reagan and Obama, you're no Ronnie Reagan.

Yeah, Obama is the great bullshitter, comes off as personable and is sort of good looking (not as handsome as Ronnie), but Ronnie had a system of economics behind them, backed up by noted economists -- Obama is nothing but words.

And Ronnie didn't pretend to be what he isn't, he was down-to-earth and real. Obama plays up his being born to a teen mother, with a (black) father who absconded on them -- then tries to play being a man-of-the-world based on his living abroad as a child with a male relative, a grandparent.

Hillary's just starting to talk about the 86 countries and leaders she's visiting and dealt with, from being First Lady to Senator, and it's resonating.

Problem is, people in America are so shallow and provincial, just talking about "experience" hasn't been specific enough to resonate. And Trujillo and those guys mired in California's myopic politics haven't helped. She's had crappy P R and speechwriters -- she should've trusted herself more.

Bill was actually very respected abroad -- if he's been in charge during 9/11, that initial world sympathy would have benefited us in the longrun, too.

Yea thank God Obama is no Raygun, who's system of economics ergo the "trickle down theory of ecomomics" aka "The Laffer Curve" has proven to be a total failure and has allowed the Robber Barons of Monopoly Capitalism to get us to the over 3 Trillion dollar national budget and an ecomomy based on greed and social Darwinism.
Oh yea Obama is no Reagan alright thank the good lord.

(AP) - A year ago, Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-Inevitable, was joshing about whether she could appoint her husband secretary of state when she became president, and Barack Obama was urging a throng to be realistic about his own chances. "Let's face it," he said. "The novelty's going to wear off."
But a funny thing happened on the way to the Clinton coronation. Quien sabe where it will all end up - McCain may have the last laugh and Nader another broad smile.

When Reagan took over from that idiot Jimmy Carter, interest rates were 17 percent, the only way anyone could buy a house was with "balloon rates" and that whole bubble makes what's going on today look like transparent financing.

Only after Ronnie came in were people able to buy a house again, he benefited the real middle class, not just giving handouts to the poor, panderng to illegals by offerning driving licenses, denying their billions in negative costs, and allowing the collapse of our entire "anglo" society. No schools or hospitals or even clinics work, and certainly none for the dreaded middle class, no money after taking care of all the illegals.

Bush's right wing for his oil and agribusiness buddies sucks, Jimmy sucked even worse and was a moron on foreign affairs, too (kissing up to dictators like Romania's, sounds like Obama here, too) -- you have no idea what you're talking about as usual, don Cholo. Stick to your barrios in Glassell Park, how's the Drew Street gang this weekend?

*******************************

Zuma was the one Blogging Burro who actually shows up at City Hall and commented on City "shadiness".

Mayor Sam must have felt Zuma was responsible for attracting all the whacko comments.

But mayor Sam should have just moderated the comments, like he does now and kept Zuma around. Mayor Sam could have also limited Zuma to one post a day, if he felt Zuma was taking over his blog.

I would like to know who the new Blogging Burros are, and what makes them qualified to comment on this blog. Why do I care what Joe B. or Ed Harrington write, I don't even know who they are or what they do.

Mayor Sam should have a "resume" of each of his Blogging Burros, and tell us why we should give a shit, what his Blogging Burros write.

I like Obama personally, but he is the black Jimmy Carter. A religious idealist who believes all we have to do is talk with crazies from Iran.

He's not Reagan, not by a mile.
