Sunday Morning Mimosa

Grand Avenue got in the ground last week, and as the project has already doubled in cost, keep an eye out for more public handout, says the Daily News.

Now that the sides aren't talking to each other, your former fishwrap of record has not one but two stories about the Writer's strike. Amazing timing from Spring Street again. Scott Collins marvels at his own genius in one. Three less myopic scribes cobble together another story on economic impact, going with the LA County Economic Development Corp. estimate of $1 billion, rather than the UCLA Management School shill/Variety guess of $300 million.
As readers debated grammar yesterday, the jawboning speech I'd like the Mayor to give the studios is this: "For decades, the City has provided you with generous easements to your enormous lots, built great studio spaces for you, virtually gave you a venue to host your Academy Awards, lent to you dependable location and streamlined permits, and offered up all the talent you've needed, and you've rewarded us with runaway production, and disrupting the local economy by walking away from various collective bargaining sessions. The City is not your personal trough---so get back to the table."

Speaking of generous easements, the Planning Department often complains about how beleaguered it is, and Gail Goldberg swears that she's all for "smart growth"---which as far as we can determine is any growth that takes place within half a mile of a commercial street or busstop---which is, of course, any growth at all.
How smart is this: the City since Hahn has been peppering the City's Council offices with a document called "How to Request a Zone Change." It's mostly a blueprint for what might be the most effective way for one of your sellout neighbors to ruin the sanctity your neighborhood with a Zone or Height change.
"It's easier than you think!" is the message of this Los Angeles City Planning Department Guide. Love that "step" at the bottom: Mayor signs...
Click that image to enlarge it, if you dare. It's so easy, just like playing Monopoly!

Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe...
Thanks for ruining my Sunday morning with the news about Grand Ave and Gail Goldberg/How to Zone Change updates. (I was trying to not pay attention!)
And Joe, you know it's lonely going out on limbs and bringing up the sometimes more unpopular insights...
So can I just say to everyone who thought ZD was being a little harsh on that shady and illegal (YES ILLEGAL!) Grand Avenue Project...
I TOLD YOU SO!
And to everyone who said the project cost wasn't going to skyrocket -- and that they wouldn't be coming back for more subsidies -- and that they aren't even really subsidies, anyway...
HA! I TOLD YO ASS!
(sorry for zd'ing up the thread joe...but it just caused me to blow a gasket.)
p.s. And Joe, thanks for all the time you spent with me sharing your insights and tips on the Grand Ave shady angles that went into my previous blogging on this issue. (THE CRA IS ROLLING THE DICE ON A SCHEME THAT WILL MORE LIKELY BANKRUPT THE CITY BEFORE IT REVITALIZES IT!)

Gail's little "Smart Growth" is just a wolf dressed up in another sheep's clothing. Tom La Bonge's office is presiding over the invasion of more shitty box condos/apartments in the east side of Larchmont. I guess Rocky, the fearless City Attorney, is going to let them trash his own neighborhood by offering no assistance to the community. And I hear the Mayor, next door in Windsor, will help... but you gotta pay to play. Thanks guys!

Zuma I am sure Joe thinks you're a fool as does the rest of the city.
Hey Higby your rank fell to 12 from 6. When are you going to realize Zuma is killing your blog?
It is sad Joe writes a great piece followed by dribble from the guy who lives in a van and begs for coffee.
Anonymous said:
Higby if you got rid of Elliott and Wet Spot more people would respect you.
Anonymous said:
Look Zuma can't stand that Joe wrote a good piece on planning and the clown has to be in the spotlight too.
Anonymous said:
Joe didn't write any good piece. He linked to stories other people wrote.

What a predicament for the Mayor to support the writer’s strike or Universal Studios.
Elliot Sekular’s is the CEO for Universal Studios; his wife is one of the strikers. Does Universal Studios know that?
How come Elliot’s wife is protesting when he is so opposed at people SHOUTING AND DEMANDING THEIR RIGHTS? Elliot talks so much about NEGOTIATING, is it because his wife is wise and not a moron like him?

7:54am, Dumbass...I wrote for the blog when it was #6. Meanwhile, that ranker is stupid. Has anyone checked it out. We're talking the difference between 3 clicks and 5 clicks changing a ranking. And who cares about numbers like those anyway? I mean, really...who cares if other blogs in sacramento or orange county have more clicks??? This blog covers it's own niche that you don't get anywhere else. AND YOU KNOW THAT...THAT'S WHY YOU HELPED MAKE THIS BLOG #6 last week, beating out the other LA blogs by up to 3-5 clicks!!!
But the point is, crybaby...i was blogging here when it was #6. (But I guess that was DESPITE my contributions that every single reader endured, loser!

So this is your superstar Higby? Look at it he doesn't know shit. Noone at City Hall reads your blog anymore. They don't want to send you info because they don't trust you won't give it to Zuma.

Joe may have written a shitty article but Homeless Dave was still a "jealous crybaby"

10:31am,
Speaking of jealous-crybabies...
forgive me for posting my comments on joe's thread, instead of posting my own Grand Ave thread (which would have really been a "spotlight" attempt.)
Although I wanted to blast an entire thread on Grand Ave Project (following up on Joe's mention of the Daily News post)...I felt since Joe brought it to my attention, I would post it on HIS thread...which would allow me to vent my frustration at the Grand Ave Project, while allowing Joe's thread to remain on top.
MY BAD!

At least we know the homeless guy who died downtown wasn't Zuma Dave. Bummer.

Lookie there! Homeless Zuma Dave just can't give up the spotlight. Keep bitching bitch.

Meanwhile, that ranker is stupid.
Ever notice when some asshole gets fired, he usually says "My boss is stupid."?
Anonymous said:
Hey Mailander,
Quit complaining. We all know who is really posting all this stuff about Zuma "Dave" Dogg. Do you really think anyone else cares? Get over it!
Anonymous said:
hey crybabies...thanks for making zuma bigger than the issues being blogged about, again. i remember a time when the mayor and city council and the issues used to get more attention than the bloggers. triumphantness appreciated, y'all!

Once again Dave is deleting messages.
Anonymous said:
Dave will be gone soon.
Anonymous said:
yes, it's true. i have been deleting posts. that's because YOU have a problem, pussy...not anyone else.
"Boo hoo hoo...i tried to clog the blog by copy and pasting the same comment about zuma dogg's personal conditions -- over and over on every thread." Go post on laobserved, loser. oh yeah, they don't accept ANY comments.
So keep crying that I am deleting your same post about me sleeping in my van, being dumb and smelly -- that you copy and pasted on at least six threads. Meanwhile, if any of your comments contained a single sentence of content (actually criticizing my actual words -- then maybe you wouldn't be a 0.00.)
YOU HAVE TO BE SMARTER THAN YOU ARE COMING ACROSS!?!?
I mean, for as much as I try to be on the right side of the issues...
I'm sure there must be SOME noodle-armed, crybaby-loser, agendized, intentional blog cloggers out there that can at least bring up a little "grey area" to the argument.
Even the mayor's paid merchanries can tell you that ZD has amended his opinions based on hearing opposition. (People say, "oh, you got spun." Well, if someone presents some compelling points that I was unaware of, and I adjust my opinion based on new info...
WELL, Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Meeeeeee.
But loser, you gotta do better than the same old non-issue crybaby-speak.

oh no...7:02pm is back. Where have you been? Still haven't read Milton Ericson, I see.
Anonymous said:
Oh no...certain people are about to make things kinda miserable for the 3rd floor spin-posse this week.
ZD is feeling those Andy Kaufman vibes bubbling to the top, based on weak-ass spinners being non-substantive crybabies...
Dave is trying to chill-out and stay semi-retired through the holidays...
But you're provoking ZD...and he makes it hard for Dave to enjoy things like the 24 hours of KISSMAS on VH1 classic...or run-dmc youtube videos...
and you bring him back to blog mode.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaan...if you, "say what again" -- the mayor will be yellin' at a bunch of people in the morning , and certain losers are gonna be spinning (their wheels) ALL F-ING WEEK!!!
(But here's to hoping Dave stays lazy and keeps filling his time with mindless entertainment the way he used to.)

Zuma,
Where's the post about all the non-documented construction workers stealing jobs from LA citizen's who can no longer get jobs -- while the city continues to think of new and creative ways to increase their fees and taxes.
Is City Hall purposely trying to drive all legal construction workers into the streets or out of the city -- further out of the region and state, or is that just the side effect?
Between illegal vending increasing at a geometric rate of progression --
And allowing any non-documented person to fly off a plane from overseas, and be working on a Downtown construction site the next day --
I think the city has a gameplan alright...(see Wikipedia/third world country/two class system.)

To be judged a loser by the Mother of all Losers is indeed a compliment.
I know who and what I am, Zuma, but you, you can't even use your real name. There is a deep pychological imbalance in your makeup, and it keeps you from the reality that is your miserable existance.
So, enjoy yourself for a little while as I take some time off to be with my family and play a little golf, tennis, and enjoy a wonderful holiday in the desert.
You have a nice time in the van with Matt; get yourselves a short dog or two, a few ounces of some inferior mind altering drug and try to forget what you have become.
This is your Christmas gift from me; I'm going to let you waste away and sleep in peace in your own excrement for a week or two.
Happy Kwanzaa, you wanna be!!!!

7:44pm,
enjoy your time off! don't think you can really top the desert resort thing. (unless maybe you have fabian's expense account.) NOW, you finally hit me where it hurts. I admit...I'm jealous of missing out on that stuff! I USED TO RIDE JET SKIS!!! I COULD HAVE BEEN A CONTENDER!!!
Anonymous said:
It is sad an otherwise great post by Joe has to have Dave Elliott step on here and steal the spotlight. If I were Joe I'd be on the phone to MS asking him to drop the ski cap wigger . Joe probably has too much class.

Nobody at City Hall would use the (not really a) word, noone.
Stop hatin' on Zuma. And don't show up at the Mayor Sam party. Let Zuma come and hang with people who like him.
And I hope all of you wear name badges that have your names on them, which is of course, Anonymous. It will be fun.

Otherwise great post? Spotlight stolen? What are you talking about? Who do you think is doing all of this complaining about spotlight and great posts if not Mailander himself? And I wouldn't exactly call it a great post. An original post is a great post. This was just rehash, as usual.
