Saturday Hotsheet at 3 a.m.

JM, Boy Setting Bicycle on Roof, York Avenue, 12.05.07

Conduct unbecoming: hangman nooses are popping up dangling from rearview mirrors at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the Daily Breeze reports.

° ° ° ° °

Sam Hall Kaplan describes in the DowntownNews how the planning, even the pre-planning stages for north Chinatown and the Cornfield are shaping up. "'Just think of it, 400 mostly underdeveloped acres, a few miles from the Civic Center and Downtown,' exclaimed [Planning Department admin Claire] Bowin, who deftly ran the workshop with thehelp of, among others, the Western Justice Center and the nonprofit Livable Places."

° ° ° ° °

As nearly everyone everywhere has predicted, there will be no immanent settlement to the Writers' strike. Why couldn't the Mayor use some jawboning power on this one? [answer: What, and risk offending studios?]

° ° ° ° °

It's not just their relentless seven-year coverage of priest molestation. If the Catholic Church made an error in the eightteenth century, the Times will be there to cover that, too.

° ° ° ° °

Uh-oh, looks like MayorSam isn't the only place where comment wars rage.

What makes you think the mayor isn't talking to the two sides in the writer's strike? Sometimes "jawboning" can't be done in public from a soap box.

As "jawboning" is defined by Websters as "the use of public appeals to influence the actions especially of business and labor leaders" (italics mine), maybe you should bone up on what jawboning means. I used the word advisedly.

so what happens to this guy?
he talked sh*t on a blog from australia, about violence in a Los Angeles mall. Obviously it was just bullsh*t, according to LAPD investigators, but in Australia now he's arrested and marked for life.

so you really have to be careful what you say on a blog.
but absolutely nobody has the right to just go to a mall and shoot up strangers. that is f*cked up. but nobody talks about it on a blog if they're serious about actually doing it :

"....LAPD officials said that "the suspect did not have any operational capacity to carry out his threat. There was never any real threat to the Grove and there is no ongoing threat," Deputy Chief Michael Downing said."

the beginning of the end for blogging....????

because if there was " never any real threat to the Grove " why is LAPD telling australian authorities and the LA Times??
its pure hysteria, and its all bad for our futures and our privacy.

so good bye blogs. I know you won't miss me, but as Jimi said "its alright, I still got my guitar.."

oh, and while ur in the dictionary JM, check ur spelling of "imminent"

since we're back to quoting websters

Joe is such an idiot. He lectures others on dictionary definitions while he mistakes "immanent" for "imminent." Maybe it's time to go back to being a bank teller instead of pretending to be an intellectual!

Joe "The Burro" writes.....
"As nearly everyone everywhere has predicted, there will be no immanent settlement to the Writers' strike. Why couldn't the Mayor use some jawboning power on this one? [answer: What, and risk offending studios?]"

*************************

You need to go back and read some previous comments from the rest of the mule team, they do want the Mayor involved in any writer's strike negotations. Any Blogging Burro should know the Mayor can't even tie his shoes, with out the help and advice from the Blogging Burros.

The Mayor would never conduct negotiations in private.

It would be a waste of time. He must be photographed and filmed at all times. That's what matters to him. nothing else.

Does anyone here actually think that Cardinal Mahony should NOT be criticized!!??? not only for the hurt and pain he has allowed to be inflicted on his parishioners but that he also sought to cover it up!!???

You're a moron. JM was simply explaining and defining the word to the knucklehead at 7:47 who obviously didn't know what the word meant. Ok, so maybe he isn't the Spelling Bee Champ ... but at 3 a.m., you're just going to have to overlook a bitty misspelling. Get over yourself ... arrogance, my ass. Oh yeah, I'll save you the trouble: my FAT ass.

happy chanukah!

What I don't get is why Joe M keeps trying to turn Mahoney into some sort of Martyr.

In the earlier thread devoted to him and the alleged attack a couple of days ago, he whined that Mahoney wasn't getting no respect even though "he gave up his last 16 Christmas mornings to say mass."

Well, hell yeah, that's the guy's JOB just like the average Joe gets to stay home that day, and go hear Mahoney tell him all the shit he should be grateful for, how to fix himself up for the coming year, all the usual sermon stuff, followed by pass the plate and praise the Lord.

What else is Mahoney going to do, stay home and open presents with his grandkids? These guys chose the life and get plenty of perks.

I'm wondering too, where that mailbox is that he was going to, and why wouldn't it be a secretary who was carrying all that mail?

Even at average office buildings and homes, the mailman takes outgoing mail when he delivers it -- you telling me the Cardinal, with all his airs and demands for perks, is the mailman for that huge and fancy Cathedral? Not likely.

And if he is, why not hire some homeless guy to help out around the office, or Cathedral? Afraid he'll run off with the mail? Then have him just chaperone the good Cardinal who seems to have way too many menial chores to do, to pay attention to all those priests molesting kids.

Funny timing, this story -- not a way to distract attention from the messy stuff?

If the Mayor had timing like this, getting mugged taking his mail to the box, or his dog for a walk, you think Joe M would be telling us to give him a break, because shucks, he works so hard he's made fun of as the Energizer Mayor?

Nah, that's his job -- and taking shit for it from every Joe, Sam and Mary is just his gravy.

So 7:47 a.m. doesn't know what jawboning means. And if it means what Joey Mail-it-in's dickshunerry sez it does, then MAV already has said publicly the parties should negotiate and end the strike ASAP. That happened weeks ago.

Maybe it's time he did something behind the closed doors which, after all, is where the negotiations are going on. Nobody gets to pose for photos until the deal is done anyway.

What?????? You think the LAT should not have relentlessly covered the Catholic priest molestations? You've finally lost your freaking mind.

A guy was arrested for posting on a blog a threat to Loyola Marymount. Now a days these type of threats have to be taken seriously.
