Outtakes from the "RED SPOT INSTITUTE"

Good balmy morning to all in the "City of Angels". Here are some "BLOGGIN TOPICS" to engage the discerning mind.

CARDINAL MAHONY DISCLOSES SUMMER ASSAULT:

Cardinal Roger Mahony reveals in today's Daily News that he was assaulted in July by a person agitated over the Priest Abuse Scandal. While many are right in expressing their collective anger over the scandal, "STREET JUSTICE" is not the proper avenue to express one's feelings.

FPPC TO REVIEW, SCRUTINIZE EXPENSE PROCEDURES:

The fallout from the "LIFE STYLE OF WORKING MAN, FABIAN" continues. The state ethics commission, better known as the FPPC is reviewing new proposals that would require lawmakers to fully disclose the rationale and source of spending for trips such as those that Speaker Nunez engaged in. If these new rules are adopted, I would recommend naming them the "NUNEZ ACT". "MOO BOY MAVIGLIO" will love this.

LABOR TO PLAY MAJOR ROLE IN SUPERVISOR RACE:

Lead by the "FIRST LADY OF LABOR", Maria Elena Durazo, the county labor federation has given top priority to electing a "labor friendly" person to the Supervisor seat being vacated by Supervisor Burke. Can one sense a bad outcome for the "MANIC BITTER BERNIE"? As a side note, the county labor federation endorse the "PHONE TAX".
We’re certainly dismayed that [Núñez] would abandon 100,000 low-wage workers. He came from modest beginnings himself, and he should know better,” said Art Pulaski, the chief of the state labor federation. Excerpted from "Fabian's Fatwa" by Marc Cooper

NAHAI NOMINATION COMES BEFORE COUNCIL COMMITTEE:

The nomination of David Nahai to become the General Manager at the nation's largest public utility, will come before the City Council committee which oversees the DWP. All eyes will be on Councilwoman Jan Perry who was at odds with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa over the selection process.

At today's public comment, the guy involved with Elephant Hill (the opponent or pro, I didn't catch it, am not familiar with that issue) was furious "at some creature called zuma dogg" who attacked him and his wife.

Said that while some said, just ignore him as a mad person, a mad dog, he's old school and from Catorce 14, he doesn't do things that way.

Hope that guy goes after the sleazy attacks and gutter rantings and libel that have gone on for some time -- congrats, Mayor Sam, Joe!

Your reputation certainly is getting around.

(Are you going to keep deleting this alert, or no -- knowing that mad dog, he'll come back and smear that wronged party even further, as part of his "freedom of speech.")

"The attack on Mahony occurred in July near Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, and it took the cardinal about a month to heal....

It should have taken him as long to heal as it will for his victims. He was responsible as he allowed it to continue. His ego was more important than the needs of his flock.

I can think of a Mayor and a Councilman who behave the same way. I wonder when someone will have the cajones to do the same to them.

10:53, you say, "Are you going to keep deleting this alert?"

I never deleted anything about this? Why did you say, "keep deleting" when I have never deleted it? (propaganda spin alert!)

Meanwhile, since it appears you cannot tell the difference between what gets deleted, and what doesn't -- no wonder you are always so frustrated and confused all the time.

There is a difference between pasting several versions of the same comment on various thread about my personal living conditions or comments about people's weight, or flat out lies -- as opposed to what you say in 10:53am.

You say someone mentioned ZD at public comment over an important issue, and you give your "hopes" and opinion on the situation.

I don't see anything to delete.
(But that last paragraph makes you look like the crybaby loser that you are for accusing me of deleting a post "again" when I never deleted it, you whining-crybaby.

More gossip and rumors from a "FORMER MAYOR SAM AWARDEE"

No, the collection won’t be stored in Mount Washington. And it shouldn’t be: anyone who saw the stacks of crates piled up like the final scene from “Citizen Kane,” who smelled the mildew and saw firsthand the deterioration of priceless artifacts would concede that the collection was in jeopardy; it was not being maintained to contemporary standards. It will be maintained and preserved elsewhere, as it must be. But of those 250,000 artifacts, only a tiny fraction was ever on view at a single time. Much of the collection hasn’t been displayed for decades and some it has never been seen by the public at all. The collection is vast; it’s rich enough to sustain two museums: our own in Northeast L.A. and another in Griffith Park..

Afternoon Update

DWP manager's nomination sent to City Council
Daily News Wire Services
Article Last Updated: 12/04/2007 12:33:01 PM PST

Final plans were put into place today for H. David Nahai to lead the Department of Water and Power as his nomination was forwarded to the Los Angeles City Council today without recommendation.

Members of the council's Energy and Environment Committee questioned Nahai for less than an hour today, but lost a quorum before they could vote on his nomination. The issue is expected to go before the full council tomorrow.

Two months ago, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa nominated Nahai to succeed Ron Deaton, who announced his retirement Oct. 26.

"I pride myself on being a pragmatic environmentalist," Nahai told the committee.

What the dictionary say....
(after reading that, this guy will fit in with Villa very well)

1.skilled in law or business
2.archaic a
(1): busy
(2): officious
b: opinionated
3. relating to matters of fact or practical affairs often to the exclusion of intellectual or artistic matters
4. practical as opposed to idealistic

AND BEST OF ALL

"pragmatic men of power have had no time or inclination to deal with…social morality"

Fits Villa to a tee.

Dear Mr. Don Jones,

Sorry you feel that way. Personally, I don't think you should have called more attention to a one time blog post. I wish you would have contacted me if you disagreed with my post. Maybe you could have presented a side that I did not hear.

I don't really think my blogging is a city council issue, or an attack on anyones' first amendment rights.

I have never prevented anyone from speaking anywhere.

But I know that is not going to be any consolation. And you mentioned that I post anonymously. If you read anything in that thread from "anonymous", it was not posted by me. Again, I know that ain't gonna help, but I wanted to clarify.

Besides that...again, I really, really wasn't aware one blog by an unknown like me would create such waves.

Zuma, unknown or now, the Mayor Sam blog is on the internet like any other blog and therefore, when you toss out peoples' names, they come up in Googling them, regardless of who said it or the context.

Mayor Sam made a huge boast yesterday about how influential this site is in creating google hits for Councilmembers, and therefore for anyone else who is mentioned.

When someone says they say your name on a blog and you did this or that, something derogatory or even an outright lie, don't you think that would be hurtful? The fact that it is unsubstantiated from an unknown or anonymous source doesn't matter.

As Joe Mailander boasted, this site specializes in "rumor-mongering and innuendo," so such things are common on this blog.

The only posts you delete are the ones about you or, you say, sexual.

You all set the tone but how you've called all the councilmembers names which is way above and beyond just criticizing issues.

Funny how so many bloggers have thin skins when it comes to them (look at Tony Pierce on LAist and metroblogging, Joe's link) but when a guy and his wife's name are used like this, you don't think it hurts?

You're all at the forefront of new frontiers in blogging, and as you've dragged public comment down to a new low and tested frontiers, guess you're doing it here, too.

Just hope it won't hurt all your fellow commenters and bloggers by forcing stricter rules, like what apply to the MSM and legislature.

Who is the "FIRST LADY OF LABOR" refering to??

L.A. County's largest labor federation wants support in exchange for backing
By Rick Orlov, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 12/03/2007 09:46:05 PM PST

In a fiery, fist-pounding speech, the leader of Los Angeles County's largest labor organization issued a warning Monday to elected officials that unions want to see firm support for labor efforts in return for backing in the upcoming elections.

The strident challenge came as contracts are set to be negotiated next year for 30 unions covering 350,000 workers ranging from actors and longshoremen to home-care workers, teachers and janitors.

Maria Elena Durazo, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, told some 1,000 delegates at the group's second annual congress that labor is in no mood for being used for political purposes.

"Truth be told, we have a lot of fake political friends and precious few real ones," Durazo said. "How many times do we hear our political friends tell us, `I can be with you on some issues but not on others.' Or, `You don't understand the pressure I'm under.'

"What risks do politicians take in standing up for heroic workers? Do they risk their re-elections or their comfortable lives they live in largely safe, Democratic districts where our members ... make up the majority of voters? Or do they risk their ability to solicit generous political donations from wealthy big business and corporate special interests?"

Hint, if one had been reading Marc Cooper's articles on a certain assemblyman. Then you would know. F.N.

But with blogging and MSM becoming ever more blurred, and lawyers doing what they do, and things like the Beverly Hills cops demanding to see LAist's comments logs because someone made threats against a cop -- things get murky very fast.

As for your saying the guy should have ignored MS and not called attention to it in public comment, isn't that his free speech right?

A lot of middle aged and older people are just waking up to what's going on in the blogosphere, the crashdown of civility that's occurred since the MSM had to vet everything for accuracy.

My response said, "PERSONALLY, I don't think (he) should have called more attention to a one time blog post." NOT AS IN PREVENTING HIS FIRST AMENDMENT...just my opinion (hence, "personally") I didn't think it was the best strategy to go on TV and call so much attention to it, when it was only blog comments, not even a main thread.

And if you watch back the public comment, you will see that it was mentioned that something must be done, and it was said before council, and you are only supposed to discuss things under council jurisdiction. (So it WAS implied. I don't know if you saw the comments on TV 35?)

(In journalism schools, they call that a "safe driving" editorial), like . . .

"The elderly deserve respect"

"Look both ways before you cross the street -- AT the crosswalk, of course"

"Vote"

"Enunciate"

"Floss"

I can't wait to see what's next . . . "don't dump your used oil in the stormdrains?"

How about something really out there, like: "Don't make fun of the handicapped (especially if they can hear you)."

By the way, Red Snot. There's really no reason to CAPITALIZE the first letters in "Priest Abuse Scandal" -- even with all the media coverage, it hasn't really reached the level of "proper noun" yet, like "The Great Depression" or "The Inquisition."

4;26: Why would you put "vote" up there with "floss" and "don't hit the elderly" as a "safe driving" editorial?

Many voters are too stupid to vote.

It would be a public service if they didn't -- unless they took the time and were able to research the issues.

That cuts out 90% of them.

The vast majority can't tell you the capitol of Russia or who Putin is, let alone find or explain or understand most other countries in the world. Yet they express opinions on policy.

They fall for any crap politicians give them, but the ones who only promise what they can deliver are at a grave disadvantage.

There should be a 6th grade civics tests to vote. Most people are much stupider than a 5th grader.

(And if they're even dumber than that, they're convinced they need to show up at public comment at City Hall and opine on everything.)

"Proper Noun" isn't even a proper noun and shouldn't by capped. You really should look into some RE-medial edjukashion at Eagle Rock Hi Skool, (or maybe Burbank Middle School is closer to your skills level).

Priest abuse scandals are now SO commonplace and everyday, they'll NEVER be proper nouns.

Unless you start numbering or dating them, like the popes:

Priest Abuse Scandal XXVII

or

Priest Abuse Scandal 2002b (a vintage year)

That really is one of the bad things about most spel-cheekers. They can't help you much with capitalization.

December 05, 2007 8:46 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Fundamental right to turn left may sound dumb, but it's true: you sit at a congested intersection, and only 2 cars can manage the left turn -- and that's if the first one creeps out into the middle of the intersection to be ready to turn, and the other is right behind.

But this being L. A., the land of passive-aggressive drivers (who wait til the last second then suddenly wake up from the cell phone and gun it), sometimes only the one car gets through. It can take several lights to get through the intersection, even though "left turn on red" is legal. Which is what he meant -- look, sound bites make all people sound stupid. I'm not defending the mayor's verbal skills per se, but if you live in a busy part of the city, streets like Wilshire, Beverly and Sunset Blvds. desperately need these measures.

The spite of the Mayor on this blog even extends to belittling this left turn issue, which "driving L A" and every blog and person gripes about -- petty, people. You expect us to take your other gripes seriously?

Mr. Spot, it may be true that illegal immigration contributes to our traffic problem (not to mention, the danger on the roads and additional insurance expense from their uninsured and unlicensed driving) -- but as even posters on this blog keep pointing out, that's a federal failing.

Bush is more intent than any leftwing Dem on pandering to his oligarch friends in Mexico and big business in America, when it comes to keeping borders and trade open.

Until that stops and is regulated, what are we going to do with the illegals drawn here? Send them to Omaha? Or maybe, put them all on that bus to Greenland? A convoy of buses, maybe?

If you're talking about who's been preventing more dumb ideas like calling shoeboxes in highrises with no parking "affordable housing for the westside," it's the same guys you love to hate, the Mayor and Weiss. You may get your wish soon, and have Mike Woo, Reyes, Rosendahl and other well-meaning types living in a fantasy land wreck mid-city to the westside for the homeowners who've been fighting the hardest.

Their opponents are those CAVES and BANANAS (? that's a new one) who oppose ALL commercial development, even where it replaces blighted commercial development (in the face of a R E crash and resulting budget crisis, that's good public policy) and any mitigation efforts like the Mayor's Pico/ Olympic plan. (While not touching Zev, who started the idea with a far more radical proposal that was rejected... Maybe they'd like Zev to run things himself and implement that plan?)

Ah, spite is a beautifully illogical thing.

I wish I did get paid to spin, but I can't even knit a shawl -- I'm just dreading if these guys aren't fighting for us, and someone who thinks Rosendahl, Woo and Reyes are right, and leaves handling the LAPD and budget to Parks' group, takes over CD5. Zev's transportation ideas will look brilliant then.

Let me put my use of the word "immigration" in context. I did not only mean "illegal Immigration", I ment anyone "immigrating" to Los Angeles. That includes Wilbert from Iowa, Pancho from Texas, Bubba from North Carolina, and Jose from Belize. Simply our capacity is maxed out.

of course elephant can be developed. The developer has done everything the city has asked him to do. the only thing the council member was able to do was force him inot doing a full EIR. what does that mean? it means that once the developer does the EIR and nothing wrong is found, he will be able to build his homes. NOTHING WRONG with that. he followed the rules so he should get what he wants.
