Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

Do you ever go to a restaurant like TGI Friday's or Chili's on a busy night and get one of those pagers that alerts you when your table is ready? Then you have had an experience just like that of Antonio Villaraigosa who found of being Mayor of LA does get you a table at a restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mayor V explains to the media why he is supporting Hillary Clinton for President.

At sort of an attempt to use the free market to solve traffic problems, the MTA is considering making HOV lanes toll roads.

The thing I find just as annoying as liberal NIMBYS who fight Home Depot or Wal-Mart are do-gooder Republicans who rally against what's on television. Advice for both 1) Don't shop there, 2) Change the channel.

Curbed LA features the usual NIMBY tale of those who feel obliged to fight for the "character" of a community versus "evil" developers. But that's not the story here. This time the blog comments are the real fun as an anti-development poster finds that aesthetics don't extend to his colorful posting language. Yet another poster gives his view that everything in Los Angeles "looks like dribble of shit all over." Talk about blogging away dum dums!

Here is a holiday gift any female or homosexual male would appreciate that also supports a good cause - a beefcake calendar of Los Angeles City and County Firefighters. If you're like me and cheesecake is more your thing you can support disabled military veterans with the second edition of Gina Elise's retro themed calendar, Pin-Ups For Vets.

It's TV trash but I have to admit to enjoying guilty pleasure, none other than MTV's A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila. The latest buzz is that Tequila - in compete opposition to the premise of the show that she is bisexual and looking for either the man or woman of her dreams - is actually straight and has a boyfriend. You have to say that things are really going nutty when celebrities are being outed as hetero. According to sources, Tequila denies the charges.

And finally, if you're looking for Toluca Lake and don't own property on the shoreline forget being able to see it.

Steve Hymon this morning is actually trying to report like David Z and slam clowncil members. Good for him reporting what a waste of time the city hall press conferences are. Maybe one day no media will show up.

...When someone calls to alert me to a "news conference," the term implies that news will be part of the deal. But these days in City Hall, news is kind of an extra -- like a side salad instead of the main course.

Take the events of Wednesday morning, when Los Angeles City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel called a "news conference" to deliver this: She had a plan to develop a plan to strategically manage transportation in the city.

Greuel and three of her council colleagues talked for 18 minutes and, quite remarkably, said nothing about what might actually be done to improve traffic. Would roads be widened? Narrowed? Paved with gold?

Wendy from the valley being surrounded by LaBonge, Rosendahl (who's partnered with Reyes in their disastrous scheme of getting the city to build "affordable housing" on the westside and coastal areas by putting up highrises without parking), and Alarcon makes for an especially silly team when it comes to transportation planning for the westside -- the most congested area, as Rosendahl keeps pointing out. But his housing plan would only benefit the Hispanics of Reyes and Alarcon's neighborhoods, every homeowners group west of Highland to the ocean is furious about it.

Maybe some singles who ride bikes are for it, but they're a minority.

How these four can come up with a real traffic and parking fix that isn't worse than the problem is beyond me.

Should we call this the "NUNEZ ACT"?

SACRAMENTO -- Politicians who use their campaign funds to buy gifts, dine and travel the world would have to prove those expenditures are related to governmental or political business under new rules proposed today by state political watchdogs.

The Fair Political Practices Commission also proposed requiring nonprofit groups that get involved in political campaigns to reveal their donors.

Together, the proposed reforms aim to better inform voters about who is bankrolling ballot measure campaigns and tighten vague laws under which some politicians, including Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles), have spent lavishly on travel, meals and gifts with explanations limited to "meetings" or "office expenses."

The FPPC will consider the proposals at a Dec. 13 meeting. Adoption will require a vote of the five-member commission, which was created by the Political Reform Act passed by voters in 1974. Under state law, most expenditures from a politician's campaign fund must be related to a legislative, political or governmental purpose. But politicians do not have to prove such a connection in the spending reports they file periodically to the secretary of State.

Under the new proposals, politicians would have to attach a memo to their spending reports that shows the nature and recipient of gifts, details about who partook of meals and how travel related to governmental or political purposes.

Following the Council vote knowing that Home Depot was defeated Mayfield smiled broadly. Her friend from Sunland-Tujunga, Constance Henderson, stated smugly "We've held the Mexicans at bay a bit longer."
