Is The City of Los Angeles Going To Get An "Open & Transparent" Process With New DWP GM? (Or will Villaraigosa Do It HIS Shady As Hell Way, As Usual?)
Regarding the appointment of Deaton's replacement as General Manager of DWP, it looks as though the "open and transparent process" is important to people, based on the feedback on this blog.
See the stories below, on this blog, about Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's "wine and dine" pal, David Nahai, who just stepped down as Board President of DWP to take the GM position. (Oops, I mean for some other reason, and now would like to be considered by Mayor Viagraosa for the GM spot. (Even though neither one of them knows what it takes to run a power plant.)
Wouldn't it be funny if Nahai gave up his Board Presidency, but only to get blocked from becoming the GM because of the political pressure building up!?!?
Why is a transparent and open selection process important? Perhaps someone like Keith Brackpool thinks he is more qualified and wants the job too? (Just kidding!)
But on the realest, dough...why is a transparent and open selection process important?
Wasn't it one of the major Antonio Villagrosa campaign promises to clean up City Hall and bring in an "open and transparent City government"? (But, that kinda does take up a lot of time, though...and sometimes you don't end up with your hand-picked cronie.)
Perhaps that big promise went out of the window together with the other issues he was campaigning on?

There was a lot of hype about corruption, personnel, and contracting problems at DWP.
Hahn sent Raman Raj from MTA. Nothing changed.
Then Hahn sent City Attorney Hokinson in and gave him a post as Assistant General Manager. Nothing changed.
Hahn sent Deaton, "the most powerful... ." Nothing changed.
Villaraigosa selected a new Board with Nichols as President. They blamed the old Board. Nichols went on to a State post. Nothing changed.
Nahai looked at the camera with big honest eyes and claimed in a most sincere voice we need transparency, we are going to get to the bottom of all this (mismanagement was it?) and deal with the chips where they lie. He conducted millions in investigations to find... well, I guess we won't know. The insider reports were used to strengthen the DWP position and have not been released.
Meanwhile, the frequency of outages continues and the rates go up frequently - a little at a time.
D'Arcy says Nahai is his man because DWP needs more people (paying union dues) to be mismanaged.
Villaraigosa needs someone who looks honest, speaks Oxford elequently, take care of his major campaign contributors, and sidestep anything that might release DWP from his grip all for only $300+K.
Do you really think, Villar will get someone else?
Man, this sounds familiar...

If you packed up all the shady illegals with that undocumented Reyes and Huizar leading the way, and sent them back to Mexico, or at least to Cleveland, would be problem solved. No hay mas problemas. Instead, these guys keep complaining that their people's complaints for the taxpayers of the valley and westside to build them more streets and infrastructure and affordable housing fall on deaf ears -- selfish people who think their taxes should get them a standard of living close to that of Cleveland.
Solution: Let East L A secede, then these two and Alarcon can have their problems to themselves. They can get aid from Mexico. And we'll get rid of Wet Spot CD14 and Bradley too. He can torture Huizar in oblivion and take zuma with him. What could be more simple?

Nahai will take a pay cut at $350,000 a year; he makes well over seven figures in his law practice.

What makes you think that Nahai gives up income from the law practice? You think his volunteer work has hurt that income stream?

The implication is that Nahai will replace Deaton.
