Things That Make Me Go Hmmm...
Staffers of electeds who call or write to complain about what one of the bloggers here or one of the readers wrote about their boss.
Why Starbucks hasn't opened as many drive throughs in LA - where drive through was born - as they have in San Francisco where they have great public transportation.
It doesn't make me go hmmm, but I get a big kick out of how Zuma Dogg just pisses off certain people.
People who write or call me because they're so damn upset their name was on the blog.
How pretty much useless George W. Bush is.
Why we never got Captain Jack to accept the Mayor Sam Golden E-Mail Ticket of writing for the Blog outside of the comments section.
Whatever happened to Mayor Frank?
People who think I am actually Sam Yorty.

There are staffers in this town who, for the last two years, just got used to being able to harrass/intimidate bloggers & newspaper writers to get their way. The shine is coming off, they can't anymore & they're pissed. I love it.

Tia is definitely opening up a whorehouse. She wasn't joking. Check out her comments here. Tia's whorehouse
and here. She's offering free pussy to anyone who helps her clean up the burned down brothel. They are still investigating it as arson.
Tia's whorehouse
Boks knew all about it since the beginning. He thought it was a great idea. Why is this guy still the Director? He keeps making mistake after mistake.
Look at the parolees ranting online. Do we really want these guys working with the City? I don't think so.
convicts ranting I was for the program before but not anymore. Convicts who hate the government and whorehouse owners aren't good bed pals for the City of Los Angeles.

You know what makes me go hmm? Blog owners who ask people to send in inside information, promise the whistleblower anonymity then threaten to disclose their identity when they don't kiss his Higby's ass. Be warned that Higby won't keep his sources confidential. He has no ethics or morals. Don't send in information unless you want everyone to know you sent it.
He also likes to post anonymously on his own blog articles, posting the most horrendous slanderous items in order to "get the blog rolling." What people will do for a traffic rating and a few bucks worth of advertising revenue.

The news that has yet to break is that all of the parolees were fired yesterday. Boks hired them without permission. But he told Council he had permission. And they were all fired yesterday. Now the dogs all face immediate death.

There are some scribes in town too who harass and intimidate to get their way. Their shine wears thin too.
Joan Didion is famously quoted as saying that "a writer is always selling someone out." That's often, alas, true, but you gain the trust of others mostly by not selling them out.
That's what makes this site a really good one, and why I love it in fact: the people who blog here know more about not selling other people out than some dum-dums may suppose.
Be warned that Higby won't keep his sources confidential.
Wrong. Anonymous and wrong.

Did you see the typical and pathetic photo of Mayor Villar on the 3rd page of the Daily News. It's so disgusting and nauseating to see him sitting there with the little boy on National Night Out, trying to fool us into thinking he's such a caring, sincere, down-to-earth mayor...No photo can blind us from the reality....that he's just a lying, pathetic weasal and media whore who should resign or get recalled. I wonder if anyone jeered or booed him at this gathering. Isn't it ironic, that Mayor Villar is a Media Whore and Mirthala is a Whore in the Media???

In writing Higby threatened to expose his source whom he agreed to keep confidential. He has no ethics at all. Do not give this guy any information unless you use a totally anonymous email addy and server. In fact, don't give him any information at all. He doesn't deserve it. He uses it for personal gain and not for the public good.

10:13 that explains this post by the convict Taylor Donovan.
---I'd like to thank all of you who have supported this idea. It was, admittedly, fundamentally flawed in that it included the City of Los Angeles. Politics suck, and people who play with the lives of others in the guise of "doing what's right" for the citizens they were elected to represent... Well I'll end that thought a little short.
---I don't believe any of you realize just how close you or someone you know really are to being incarcerated yourselves. I was attacked twice, in front of My home by 6 illegal aliens. The second time, after being attacked and threatened with death, I stabbed one in his shoulder and went to prison for 30 months. There are many others who were in similar circumstances, or worse when they were arrested.
---This system is a sick, perverted, unfunny joke. It is designed to lock someone up because the Prison Industry is just that. Too many cops, corrections officers, lawyers, judges, and "law-makers", would have to find real jobs if they weren't stealing years from the lives of other people.
---So go ahead and judge me, I know who I am, and so does God. That's all that matters to me. I have good friends who have supported me throughout this ordeal and who are still with me today.
---This program would have been nice, but now I just don't think I will continue this fight. I'm tired of jugmental folks, and this sick mentality that it's ok to kill these animals because no one can stop you. You will have to answer for your actions someday, so you better start preparing your case now, you'll need the time. So go ahead and keep your tax dollars, I don't want them.

Higby whining like always that he has to remove libel on his blog. Did it ever occur to you that some people's names do not belong on your blog? Or do you erroneously believe providing a soapbox for the crazies in this city is your birthrite? You ran an entire thread about a private citizen two days ago with half-assed information about a so-called lawsuit, and, you're all "hmmmmm" because you were asked to strip it down. You have real class Higby. In the arena where I work you couldn't get a job sweeping floors.

I'm not buying it; I think you're framing something in a way that overstates whatever truly went on. A lot of people pass around overheated or bullying exchanges; I've become kind of a clearing-house for them, in fact, I suppose because I don't hit the forward-button more than about twice a year. I've never had one arrive involving Higby though; I've never had one saying, "Look what he said!"
It's also pretty charitable of him, don't you think, not to delete your comments; this blog has a history of letting comments run to the fullest extent possible, which is one of the reasons it's so valuable: you can look inside of people's heads, even when what's inside their heads is not so nice.

I don't do that. I'm at this site because I believe that ye in the City need this kind of site far more than ye need other kinds of sites. You should acknowledge that as a belief of yours too if you're checking in a few times a day.
I'm not here especially because I'm somebody's homie. I don't even agree with Michael's politics about half the time. Good for him for letting a few of us serve as liberal fig leaves for the site even while the site maintains that Bear Flag blogroll over there. We could use a few more lite GOP who think like that.
There are lots of great bloggers who don't blog during working hours: Patterico comes to mind. Nothing unusual about that either.

Higby was asked to take down the libelous posts but did not. Someone then posted 100 very long copies of the "Guide to Inner Peace" on the blog until the page got so big that it could not load and no one could comment. Then and only then did he remove the libelous posts. Perhaps he realized that libel is wrong after he read all 100 copies of the guide book?

Dow Plunges 387 on Credit Concerns
From the Examiner
NEW YORK (Map, News) - Wall Street's deepening fears about a spreading credit crunch sent stocks plunging again Thursday, with the Dow Jones industrials extending their series of triple-digit swings and falling more than 380 points. The catalyst for the market's latest skid: a French bank's announcement that it was freezing three funds that invested in U.S. subprime mortgages.
The announcement by BNP Paribas raised the specter of a widening impact of U.S. credit market problems. The idea that anyone - institutions, investors, companies, individuals - can't get money when they need it unnerved a stock market that has suffered through weeks of volatility triggered by concerns about tight credit and bad subprime mortgages.
A move by the European Central Bank to provide more cash to money markets intensified Wall Street's angst. Although the bank's loan of more than $130 billion in overnight funds to banks at a low rate of 4 percent was intended to calm investors, Wall Street saw it as confirmation of the credit markets' problems. It was the ECB's biggest injection ever.

More Bush's Uselessness
Stock Market Falls Due To Subprime Concerns
In Wall Street, stock prices fell this morning. Dow Jones plunged by more than 300 points. The reason, subprime mortgage concerns. A French bank said it was going to freeze three funds it had invested in U.S. subprime mortgages because it just could not tell how much they were worth. Financial planners tell KLTV 7 subprime lenders help those with low credit scores, or those who don't qualify for loans from mainstream lenders.
"You have the tendency these days, whether people are buying new cars or new homes, they want as much as they can get, but the primary concern is how little can that monthly payment be," said Focus Financial, Financial Planner Jack Jones. "The problem comes when it comes to refinance, or have to up that monthly payment. A lot of people have simply not budgeted that in and are not able to make that increase payment." For the average investor, Focus Financial Groups says today's plunge is nothing to worry about, as long as their money is spread out.
