Observations and thoughts from the "CUT AND PASTE CAPITAL" of Los Angeles

How time goes by!!! When was the last time we, at the "RED SPOT INSTITUTE", high above the crowded masses that populate our "PUEBLO DE CATORSE", establish a dialog, about events in our corner of Los Angeles ?

Since the time "CHIEF OF STAFF", Joe Avila, model for the now famous "HOMER CAMPAIGN PIECE", that nail the coffin on "HOMER Alvin's" political dreams. A "SENSE OF COOPERATION" has fallen over the district.

Henry Casas, who with Parke Skelton, helped with the strategy that beat Parra. Is now a "DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF" for "Community Outreach. Further, a major shake up has taken place within the "Field Offices", that were a major source of Councilman Huizar's problems in the community.

Yet, there are many issues that can become the "COGS IN THE WHEEL", in regards to Huizar's legacy in CD 14. They include the following;

GANG VIOLENCE
SOUTHWEST MUSEUM
ELEPHANT HILLS AND OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION
SMART GROWTH
GOLD LINE EXPANSION AND EMINENT DOMAIN POWERS
ADELANTE REDEVELOPMENT AREA
APARTMENTS TO CONDOS CONVERSION
OVERHAULING PUBLIC HOUSING
CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL MERCHANTS
CONTRACTING OUT PUBLIC FACILITIES TO "CONNECTED" NON-PROFITS

So as you can see, Councilman Huizar has his work cut out for him. Some key projects are under way such as the "Valley Blvd. Grade Separation Project" and the on-going, popular Bulk Recycling Program.

But what is the HUIZAR ADMINISTRATION" doing, that will engender a distinct community identity away from the "SHADOW OF MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA" ??. One thing that activists on the ground are talking up, is the "HUIZAR FAMILY IMAGE". Councilman Huizar had shown at certain community events, that he and his family, are a "BLENDING PART" of the community fabric. Further, is he creating a "ANTI-VILLAR IMAGE" ?? One thing is constant in CD 14 politics, is the "FAMILY IMAGE", this is the key to maintaining the respect of CD 14 voters.

So in conclusion, is Jose Huizar in the process of creating his own idenity and political road map for the future ? Your thoughts are welcome.

You can't fool me by showing up at functions with your family. And by sending me a postcard of you and your family. Try a little harder.

Newer thread doesn't seem to be accepting comments again, what happened? Something "libelous" or?

Heads up on tomorrow's LAT: not only did Rocky and Michelle forget to pay for auto insurance, and repairs, let alone her even having a licence, nor a business license, but you've gotta be really dumb to not pay your DWP bills so long, your water and power gets cut off! (AFTER they used an excessive amount of both, by the way...)

Yup, good thing our city is in good hands.

I wouldn't doubt his ambition: he ran for CM after barely getting his feet wet on the school board. Let's see, the supposed Mayoral contenders so far: Huizy, Laura Chick, Zev Y, "visual buffoon" Hahn, anyone else?
Sorry, but AV has them all beat; would make an amusing show, though.

12:50 a.m. So 4 years on school board and winning re-election unopposed is "barely getting feet wet"?

Hmmm, this blog (and most L.A. voters) didn't seem to mind at all when then-city councilmember Tony V. jumped up to run for mayor, again after only TWO uneventful years on council.

(80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES)

If four years on the school board (2+ as president) creates barely wet feet, then Mayor Tony's city service pedals must be dry as a bone.

If only he could keep other appendages as dry, and out of strange, dark, moist places. He just might get something done for L.A, right?

Bob Hertzberg will run for mayor if he thinks Villaraigosa is vulnerable. Huizar has no chance. Huizar will run for City Attorney at sometime because he is too lazy for a councilmember (although the bar is pretty low in LA).

Was that a pun?

Run for city ATTORNEY . . .

. . .the BAR is low?

Have to correct Red Spot, there really was no "strategy" to defeat Alvin Parra. And if anything, Casas was (and is) a dumbfounded bystander who couldn't figure out which side of the stamp to lick for campaign letters.

Parra's campaign was DOD - "dead upon declaration." Without the media hype of trying to make it a two man race (it was one "man" short),

And Parra only entered the race in a "you can't fire me, I quit" (to run against you) move. He knew the housecleaning was going to start with him, so he made it look like he had something else to do this past winter.

The "Homer Simpson" flyer was anticlimactic, and nothing more than a thumbed nose at Parra's entire career. If it cost him a percentage point, it was a miracle.

No one who ever worked with Parra in city government came to his aid, not co-workers, not constituents, not past bosses (like Gloria M.). Why?

Because he made Henry Casas look like a Latino Einstein.

You don't need a "strategy" to kill someone who's hell-bent on committing career suicide every few years. You just need to stay out of the way.

For Skelton, it was purely personal. He probably would have done it for anyone opposing Parra - for FREE - since Alvin messed up one of Parke Skelton's earlier campaigns (for Mrs. Parra),

Skelton's most likely had that ad sitting in his bottom desk drawer since before Huizar entered city politics.

If he didn't (and if anyone who ever might run a campaign against Parra doesn't already have something similar in mockup stage already), they should be drummed out of the ranks of campaign managers and related liars.

Bob Hertzberg or Zev Yarslavsky can each beat MAV. They will win the Valley and South L.A. for sure and have a good shot at the westside. Does that sound like a familiar strategy for MAV coming in 2nd place?

Huizar's time so far has been characterized by constant staff turnover and missteps.

I hope he can do better now that things seem to have settled down.

it was the staff that caused the missteps that have been turned over. Makes sense!

It's obvious that there are Huizar haters and cronies here. Let's just let his actions speak for themselves. What has he done?
