Tamar Galatzan! Take Down Your Campaign Signs!

One side effect of development is sometimes is vacant buildings and lots that can sometimes sit empty while construction awaits. Too often those sites can become home to graffiti, dumping, the homeless, weeds, illegal signs and other types of everyday urban blight.

The problem has been noted by that ever vigilant Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association activist - Ellen Vukovich - who writes a regular column for the weekly Sherman Oaks Sun. Vukovich describes the following action plan for eradicating development related blight:
Haven’t you wondered what it takes to make certain all of the vacant buildings and lots scheduled for demolition or remodeling don’t become pockets of blight in our Community? Thanks to a few devoted SOHA Board Members, specifically Jules Feir, Chuck Betz and David Rankell, these gentlemen are responsible for making certain the City maintains vacant and/or abandoned structures, and empty lots, by doing any one or a combination of these acts – pulling down illegal signs, placards, arranging for debris and shopping carts to be removed, contacting various City departments and (the always responsive Council Field Deputies, Joan Pelico for Weiss; Pat Davenport for Greuel) and our diligent Neighborhood Prosecutor, City Attorney Tamar Galatzan, to ensure that laws are upheld.
OOOPS! Tamar Galatzan? You might remember that Tamar was elected to do the Mayor's bidding as an incoming member of the LA Unified School board. However until now she's been serving as one of Rocky Delgadillo's "Neighborhood Prosectuors" who, among other things, is supposed to be out there pulling down illegal signs not leaving them up 35 days after the election is over.

As we reported at the end of last month, Tamar's signs were littering up many parts of Sherman Oaks, even though other candidates were being responsible and taking down their signs promptly. Galatzan's signs are still trashing up the community, including several development sites in Sherman Oaks and the sides of freeways. To see more pictures of these signs, click here.

Its one thing for a politician to be a scofflaw. Its another thing when the very law you're breaking is one you've been charged with upholding. What a great example to set for the children.

Mike Trujillo is a confidante and former staffer of the Mayor who used to blog here (anonymously) at Mayor Sam.

The Mayor Sam bloggers "outed" themselves. We were tipped off an LA Times investigation was in the works so I called Rick Orlov and gave him the scoop.

Sometime later Mike Trujillo left the blog. He also has worked for Rob Reiner and Tamar Galatzan.

I don't know if Mike is posting on the blog but I know in the past he has been reading it. I can't tell you how I know, but I know.

But I nor any other member of the staff have any way of knowing if he is posting unless he tells us. (And he did tell us sometime ago he no longer reads the blog.)

My assumption is that IF he is posting, someone who knows him has been posting this and its taken off like wildfire.

Shit, isn't there something else you guys can write about?

Mayor Sam used to be fun to read. Now its like a long car ride with small children who can stop whining about every aspect of the journey.

I'm about done visiting this site.

You guys are LAME.

Mr. LAME -

Holding elected officials accountable is lame???

Yea, what Tamar did is nothing when compared to Rocky or the Mayor but here is someone who has held themselves out as the new great hope and they're not setting an example as a leader.

More obviously is that there is a local publication praising Tamar for aggressively attacking the very act that she (or at least her campaign workers) did.

You can't have it both ways.

So just keep being lame my friend.

See you in radioland tonight.

By the way - at least some of the signs were removed by this morning. I am thinking either Trujillo drove out to Sherman Oaks at 6 in the morning today OR the person who lives in the house with the sign in front must have read the blog and took down the signs on the fence (but not the yard sign).

Or maybe Mrs. Rocktard came over and did it. :)

Here's all you really need to know about the subject:

"Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 28.04
A. No person shall paint, mark or write on, or post or otherwise affix, any hand-bill or sign to or upon any sidewalk, crosswalk, curb, curbstone, street lamp post, hydrant, tree, shrub, tree stake or guard, railroad trestle, electric light or power or telephone or telegraph or trolley wire pole, or wire appurtenant thereof or upon any fixture of the fire alarm or police telegraph system or upon any lighting system, public bridge, drinking fountain, life buoy, life preserver, life boat, or other life saving equipment, street sign or traffic sign."

PERIOD.
