Official Weiss Recall Release - City Clerk to Protect Voters
The Recall Proponents have asked City Clerk Frank Martinez to strike lies printed in Jack Weiss’s response to the recall effort. Weiss’s recall response, a signed affidavit by Steve Tufts, contains demonstrably untrue statements about “public money” and “public oversight.”
The letter submitted to Martinez, which is posted on the recall web site (www.RecallJackWeiss.Com) states:
“This a moral issue,” says Recall Proponent Steve Twining, “If we allow this to go uncontested then it erodes the very foundation of our political system.” Regarding the issue, the Committee to Recall Jack Weiss issued the following statements to members of the press:
“If Jack Weiss has to lie to voters to save his job, then he clearly doesn’t deserve to have it.”
“If anyone has any doubts about Weiss’s relationship to developers and their lobbyists, they need only go to the City Ethics website and see how much money these people have contributed to Weiss.”
“Just because the truth is damaging doesn’t mean it is okay for the Councilman to lie to his constituents. In allowing others to lie to defend him, Jack Weiss has provided yet another reason he does not belong in office.”
The letter submitted to Martinez, which is posted on the recall web site (www.RecallJackWeiss.Com) states:
“Mr. Martinez, voters have a right to see FACTS when making their decision. That is why there is an affidavit which states ‘I hereby declare that all of the facts contained in the Answer against the recall of Jack Weiss, Los Angeles City Councilmember, Fifth District, are true.’The Committee to Recall Jack Weiss expects that the City Clerk will do the right thing and make Weiss retract the false statements made on his behalf.
Please remove these false and misleading statements to ensure that voters are not deceived.”

steve lopez is really going after him and now, offers to drive his wife, calls them posterkids for scofflaws, not law prevention: what gives, why this extent of anger at them? Sure, he's in violation of his job as the chief law enforcement officer, and a huge hypocrite to boot, trying to take down Baca (Hilton was just the excuse). Is this a pro-Baca thing? I do sympathize w/ Rocky in that any public official wants his family/ spouse to be private, but he so walked into this.

Jack is only going to be made stronger by the weak response to the recall effort.
The exact same thing occurred with the failed recall of Antonio and those buffoons, Torres, jr,. Villanueva and Pacheco, who never filed a single signature out of sheer embarrassment at the low numbers achieved.
Good going folks, Jack Weiss is virtually assured of being our next City Attorney and he can thank the incipient recallers for the boost.
It is ZD politics at its very best.
