Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

Blognet News has put out their first Top 20 List of California's Most Influential Political Blogs. The Sister City is proud to come in at #11. Considering some of the blogs that are also on this list, we are very honored.

The ACLU is supposed to stand up for constitutional rights but in this case, they're not. The private property rights of a downtown developer are being challenged by the City of Los Angeles and the left wing organization is representing "affordable" housing organizations in proceedings against developer Geoff Palmer.

The MTA is adding additional bus service in the northeastern and western portions of the San Fernando Valley.

Various writers at CityWatch have given mid-term grades to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Reactions are from what has he done to the mayor needs to resign because he has proven Los Angeles does not need a Mayor (our personal favorite).

I keep trying to tell Joe B. and the Sunland-Tujunga NIMBY folks to trust the market. Home Depot is in trouble and so now is Wal-Mart. Because of poor sales, the Bentonville, Arkansas based department store chain is cutting back on the number of stores it plans to open.

Moderate Republicans are hoping to take control of their party and boost it's chances here in Los Angeles. First order of business and accomplished, electing Tamar Galatzan to the school board.

We mentioned the Dyke March last week and surmised there probably wouldn't be any Republican Dykes marching. From the looks of this (and this) we were probably right. But there are Republican lesbians out there, well at least one who votes Republican. And if there weren't any Republicans marching there were straight girls.

Want to redistrict legislative districts like the big boys? The USC Annenberg Center has an online game where you can gerrymander to your heart's delight.

And finally Zach Behrens has a good story at LAist that illustrates some of the pitfalls of moralistic laws passed by right wing kooks and/or liberal do gooders. When the City Council couldn't leave well enough alone and decided to enact bans on lap dancing someone hired to be an enforcer of the ban was dumb enough to brag about the perks of the job on Craig's List. Good thing the strip clubs forced the City's hand with a referendum and got the law tossed out.

Looks like Steve Hymon of LA Slimes has become the poster boy for kiss butts to Antonio. Someone needs to tell Steve it doesn't mean shit for AV to have a friend in the White House cause we still lost millions of federal dollars on the MTA fiasco.

....First and foremost, a win by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton would provide Villaraigosa, and by extension the city, a friend in the White House — not a bad thing, considering the great decline in federal dollars going to cities in recent years.

Mayor Sam could this be true? How can the city be investing employees pensions into a foreign city without their knowledge?

...city's pension system to end investments in Iran "to increase pressure on the Iranian government to abandon its quest for nuclear weapons," Weiss said in a press release.
