This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

Good idea Joe. Thanks.
I've got the laptop next to the monitor here with a split screen on the city results and county (AD39). Does anyone know how to make Firefox autoreload?

$500,000 and only a 300 vote lead in District 7. Valley activists were lamenting the fact that the Lauritzen campaign had a near zero Absentee outreach.

Lauritzen is getting creamed.
Other races are close.
39th has had no update in nearly 2 hours.

I don't think Antonio won this election so much as teachers' union lost it. Anyone who heard Lauritzen interviewed by Doug McIntyre would pretty much have to vote for anyone running against him, or even a reasonably intelligent sandwich.
Rather than backing Lauritzen, the union should have fielded its own "proponent of change." In high school debate, it's called "running a counterplan." Rather than defending the status quo, you come out with a proposal of your own of change. The union apparently thought the people would believe all is well in the schools.

Walter,
just a thought. Duffy and his cronies have a long relationship with the mayor that goes back to his days as a organizer. Could it be that Duffy and friends have some "GRAVY" coming their way in the near future. Think 2010.

isn't that fascinating. 10.37 implies all illegal immigrants are Latino only.
I'm sure they come here illegally from everywhere.
to answer your question, no, I'm not illegal.
I am not 'undocumented'.
I arrived legally. and I was married to an American citizen.

Sam,
Just checked the City Clerk's site. I wish there was a way to determine the locations of the counted polling places. This one will be a nail biter.
Mayor Sam said:
time to go to bed. all the bad people won again.
but a nail biter right now in the community college race. would be a good sign if Burns won. That's a citywide seat so it would show excellent organization by the local repugs and they might start to earn back some of mine and maybe even Walter's (well don't hold your breath) respect.

Burns is showing what Republicans can do if they come out and vote.
I voted for him early and so did my wife. I hope he can hold the lead.
LAUSD needs an upheaval; their bureaucracy is by far the most full of lard in all of Los Angeles, and that's saying a lot.
They make any other bureaucracy around here look pure and simple.
Now, the Mayor has to deliver; that's harder than winning elections. I think he can deliver, because if he can't, no Sacramento in his future.
I think the right people won this one, but, we'll see.

We need to all be aware now of the contracts for the new schools. Let's see who's family will get them. We all know Antonio is corrupt but people are beginning to really see the cholo in him and laying him out.
Why is Felippe getting this much money? Can a Assembly member get money for consulting? What personal services, doesn't Alarcon know what the hell he's doing?
CD 7 MOTION (ALARCON - HAHN) relative to a personal services contract with Felipe Fuentes to provide services to the Seventh Council District.
Recommendations for Council action:
1. APPROVE the personal services contract with Felipe Fuentes to provide services to the Seventh
Council District from April 9, 2007 to June 16, 2007 in an amount not to exceed $20,000 from
funds available in the Council Office budget.
