Memo to Shelly Sloan: Time for Reform of Small Town City Attorneys
We saw the City Attorney of Pomona threaten a blogger with what will likely turn out to be baseless threats.In California, most city attorneys of small cities are law firms that are contracted out as opposed to an elected or appointed official.
This practice should come to an end because it opens up the possibility of all kinds of fraud, waste and abuse or at least general shadiness. These law firms get cozy with the very elected officials and city employees who hire them. How objective can they be when they are supposed to represent the entire city; yet they are vulnerable to the city council's every whim. At the same time, how objective can the council be in selecting these attorneys when they or their firms donate thousands of dollars to council candidates?
Cities should be forced to have elected city attorneys like Los Angeles or if not that is not possible they should be required to pay the County District Attorney for the services of a county appointed city attorney.

The council's Special Task Force on May 1 Protests will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Charles White Elementary School, 2401 Wilshire Blvd.
The panel will discuss investigations under way by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Police Commission's inspector general. The meeting also will serve as a forum for the public to express opinions about the confrontation.
The committee will be headed up by Reyes and Councilman Jack Weiss. Council members Wendy Greuel, Jan Perry and Jose Huizar also will sit on the panel.

It's not the Sloan's or the Bar's problem, although I agree they should send a strong message.

These dumb ass councils then hire their cronies to be things like, oh, City Manager or City Attorney, and we get idiots like Al Robles in South Gate and this latest retard in Pomona.
You're probably right. If Hilary gets the nomination she's not going to pick someone like Obama who will overshadow her. She's not going to take Edwards since he didn't even win his own state in 04.

Even without MAV's baggage (which could fill an entire 747), Richardson would still be the choice.
The Clintons will string MAV along to get his endorsement. Then they will dump him like a hot potato when they pick Richardson.
