ZUMA DOGG Open Thread For 04/23/07

***** MONDAY NITE UPDATE *****
Thanks to new DONE leader Carol Tharp for taking some time to discuss the challenges ahead in her new position as "savior of NCs." She's got no easy task trying to bridge the gap between Shadiagrosa and the occasionally dysfunctional NCs. Right now EVERYONE loves her, until she makes a decision against one side, or the other. Then she'll either be fired, or hated. But just based on what I have heard from her, in theory, I LOVE HER! Hope she can sort it all out. After speaking with her, I can tell you low stakeholder participation from a numbers standpoint is something that needs to be addressed before NC will be taken seriously by CC. [So start rallying the troops and get some people into these meetings the way Villaraigosa rallys HIS troops AGAINST you. MORE TO COME...]

The river of shadiness runs fast and deep today...

* DE LEON'S $400 MILLION PARK BOND BAMBOOZLE: ZD accidentally stepped into this one. (Sorry, Kevin.) Just got a call from a ZAP participant, who saw the thread over the weekend, and did a little more digging. Lots of last minute changes and a committee meeting today. (Hey, you guys hear of the Brown Act. Can't pop up secret, last minute meetings without proper notification....YOU'RE BAD!) HEY BUD...YOU'RE BUSTED!

* LAUSD vs CHARTER SCHOOLS (The fight for campus space): See LAzy Times and Daily News. (Hope SOMEONE gets rich off this "tug 'o war" over the kids.) Daily News on LAUSD vs Charters

* LAFD: CALTRANS NEEDS TO CLEAR BRUSH (Don't want another "DWP" incident on their hands): City fire inspectors say the state transportation agency has failed to clear overgrown brush along at least six freeways, potentially putting thousands of homes at risk during the approaching summer wildfire season. (dailynews.com) [ZD says: "F" it...in a cost saving effort, I say, "Let the brush simply burn if it starts fire...that will clear it. And if it doesn't catch on fire...we'll then it didn't need to be cleared in the first place.]

* WHY DO STAFFERS FEEL THEY ARE BEING SPIED UPON BY THE POWERS THAT BE AT CITY HALL? (Capt. Jack has a tale to tell.)

* PUBLIC NOTICE: Education & Neighborhoods Committee "Special Meeting" tonight at 5pm at Van Nuys City Hall. Meet Richard Alarcon (Chair), Janice Hahn (Queen Mother) and Jose Huizar (but he doesn't like to attend these kind of meetings, so we'll see if he shows). And gas money permitting, Zuma Dogg will be appearing to sign autographs and take pictures with everyone who attends.

FROM ZD's INBOX:

ZAP Participant said...Charter schools are free from many restrictions imposed on traditional public schools. They don't, for example, have to use credentialed teachers in nonacademic subjects, such as dance, and they are not bound by a school system's union contracts. This leeway is intended to promote innovation that enhances student achievement. Some regular schools convert to charter status, and continue to operate on their district-owned campus. But start-up charters face the difficult hurdle of finding a location. Charter school supporters say the Los Angeles Unified School District is not working hard enough to find classroom space for these schools on existing campuses.

Good morning Mr. Dogg (tips hat):

I'll have to be brief for my sat phone will only hold for so long, savvy?

Remember a while back at the beginning of the month when I posted about Dinger and the goings on at the Courthouse? And now your question to me...and my answer is...Lucille is suing for invasion of privacy for she claims that she was spied upon. Lucille works for the City. Connect the dots and you will see that the true culprit is

Hey Zuma - ask the aspiring Assemblyman why he accepted donations from the lobbyist who represents the railroad if he's so hot to build parks? DeLeon just opened a park in Taylor Yard, but now there's gonna be a high speed train run through there. What's up with that?

Good evening Zuma lad (tips hat):

Sorry about my cut-away earlier, had problems with the sat phone. Am in port in Cabo at the moment and using an internet cafe station.

The end to my e-mail was that the true culprit is the sorry sots that think that this blog as well as other outlets of free speech are a threat to their, if you will, shady back room deals and not-for-public dealings, which you well know is the way business is done, savvy?

Must go as this costs more money than I thought. We're making good time and hope to have the Pearl in Miami within two weeks if the weather holds and will be meeting with some interesting pirates who have stories to tell about development in Florida that is headed for Los Angeles, savvy? Next port will be either Puerto Vallarta or somewhere south, not sure yet.

Captain Jack,

Oh no...I think I stumble upon another rock.

You say Lucille works for the City and is suing they ass for invasion of privacy.

The case summary I stumbled upon is about a non-city employee for civil rights violation.

Does anyone know about THAT?
