Too Many Photo Ops Can Get You In Trouble

Assemblyman Lloyd "The Bachelor" Levine is always doing something to get attention.

You see he wants to run for the 23rd District State Senate seat currently held by Sheila Kuehl. The challenge is that Levine has to first defeat Assemblywoman Fran Pavley for the Democratic nomination. That's the real contest for the seat since there are probably only about two or three Republicans living in the 23rd.

Lloyd is usually pretty good handling his photo ops and publicity stunts but this time he kind of screwed up: instead of showing up to an event that he organized to mark Holocaust Day, he was off running the Boston Marathon. Heck even Arnold made it to the event. Hey, at least he wasn't doing it in space.

I am sure that the Pavley campaign's opposition research team will make great use of the Mayor Sam archives. There is a small treasure trove for them - everything from trying to go on TV's The Bachelor to dating news anchors to banning light bulbs and grocery bags.

Maybe at some point he'll attack an issue in his district, but we'll probably have to wait for the second coming of Stuart Waldman instead to get some level of sanity back to the 40th AD.

Why I would support Fran Pavley over Lloyd Levine by Mayor Sam...

I'm not a Democrat nor do I live in the district but if I had to make choice, I'd pick Fran.

Fran is a kooky tree hugging liberal to the Nth degree but I sense she is genuine. Her politics are all out of kilter but I sense she is a true believer and genuine. That tells me a lot about her character.

Lloyd on the other hand has shown me he is a glad handing, photo opping showman with not a lot of there there who chases the hot issues the ever limousine liberal 23rd district voters are emotional about. Lloyd has to overcome his real lack of name ID compared to Fran so he's doing the issue d'jour tour and silly things like trying to go on the bachelor and running the marathon.

How about addressing some of real issues in your district like bringing some business here so young folks (your peer group) can get decent jobs and be able to buy a home. How about attacking illegal immigration which is ruining your community.

Nah, better off to have a press conference every day and date hot chicks like Edie. I understand though, I would enjoy that more than serious legislating myself.

PS: Whether Lloyd wins his next seat or not at least those in the 40th AD can be comforted that very soon they will have a solid, mature and thoughtful assemblyman in Stuart Waldman. I know Stuart ain't running no marathons or dating news babes (he's married). And he understands we need business in this area. (and please no cracks about Stuart's weight - I understand he is quite athletic).

Lloyd is a nice guy, but he better look for a different office to run for if he wants to prolong his career.

Independent polling puts Pavley at a better than 2 to 1 lead over Levine (EdVoice, released in March 2007.) Pavley has a 4 to 1 cash on hand advantage ($329,000 to $75,000). Pavley represented half of the district in the Assembly - Lloyd represents less than 10%. Pavley has all the big endorsements (Feinstein, Boxer, Kuehl, Brownley)

But most importantly, Fran Pavley is an international environmental superstar.

If you though Kuehl vs. Knox was a blowout, wait for this one. Pavley in a walk.

Do you really think the Lloyd is going to have trouble fundraising? Do you know who his dad is?

3:10. That would be Larry Levine. Political consultant and slate vendor. Also a nice guy. But no Eli Broad.

Lloyd will raise money, not because of his Dad, but because of his position in the Assembly. But it won't be enough. Not nearly.

And I figure Pavley will have no trouble getting dough from Barbra Streisand and all her friends.

Are there only Democrats who post on this site? Why vote for some Democrat who sponsors absurd legislation like forcing you to change your light bulbs from incandescent to flourescent, as though that would make one iota of difference to our climate? Why vote for anti-business high tax-loving liberals?

Support Armineh Chelebian, a pro-business, fiscally responsible accountant. She is a Republican, running for Assembly in the 40th AD.

Check out Armineh's record. A web site with her positions will be coming out soon.

She will represent both Republicans and Democrats for the benefit of California.
