Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Capitol Weekly has a story about uber-consultant Richie Ross allegedly lining up the ducks to get Richard Alarcon elected Assembly Speaker. According to the story, Ross has clients in twice as many open seat Assembly spots than any other consultant. Alarcon has endorsed 21 seperate Assembly candidates, seven of whom are Ross clients. And Alarcon has not endorsed a Ross candidate opponent in any race. Alarcon denies any grand scheme to capture the Speakership, telling Capitol Weekly, "I just want to be part of the team."

We reported yesterday that one of the candidates seeking to takeover Alarcon's State Senate seat, Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez, has won the endorsement (over her opponent City Councilman Alex Padilla) of the Service Employees International Union, and with reports that the County Fed may be soon behind. It was one of our readers who called this about two weeks ago. Momentum may be going in Cindy's way. Stay tuned.

The Assembly's favorite bachelor, the 40th District's own Lloyd Levine may be on the prowl again. Capitol Weekly is reporting that Levine was seen having an intimate dinner with local Sacramento broadcast journo, Edie Lambert, at the swanky capitol eatery, Spataro. Stay tuned.

After announcing an alleged al-Qaeda threat against a Downtown LA skyscraper, that he mistakenly referred to as the Liberty Tower (he meant to say Library Tower), President Bush was the recipient of much hoo-haw for getting it wrong. Chief among his critics was US Senator Dianne Feinstein who said that Bush was wrong to call it Liberty Tower or even Library Tower, that the building name is the First Interstate Bank Building. Of course, it hasn't been called that either since 1996 when First Intersate Bancorp was bought by Wells-Fargo in a hostile takeover. The building is currently named the US Bank Tower. Nonetheless, the terrorist operative who was the mastermind of the plot to fly a plane into the LA building has been arrested.

Have a good weekend.

I went to the District 2 candidate forum last night.

Chris and Ana came out as the clear winners. They had thoughtful answers and show a breadth of knowledge that you would have expected from Monica Garcia.

The losers were: Enrique Gasca and Monica Garcia. Monica should know a lot more for having been Jose's Chief.

Library Tower, most in downtown LA still refer to it mainly as a slang title, who really cares which bank labels the top of the building from year to year. the name library tower sticks. Amazing the Dems are wondering why Bush brought it up, I guess not having the ability to understand the link to the plot andd the need for surveillance, whether you agree with methods or not. AV says he wasn't notified Bush would bring it up.. well, A, its a 2 year old story, if it's the first you heard about it, read the paper sometime. its old news here.

District 2 Forum:

Monica Garcia-good loud voice, clear, included all schools during statements-district wide schools.

Ana-has passion, I had hope for er in the start, but she came off as bit self centered, Belmont this-Belmont that-, is this how she will reign as board supervisor?

Enrique Gasca-did well on fund issues and statistics. Focused on drop out issues, funds, teacher creativity

Chris- Impressive, Good Delivery of message, fund, and drop out issue.

STILL UNDECIDED, WILL ATTEND OTHER FORUMS.

I really expected Monica to have the edge given her experience as COS. Unfortunately, she was no better than the rest.
