CLOSED SESSION SETTLEMENT ALERT ($$$): ZUMA DOGG CITY HALL UPDATE - April 26, 2007

$$$ ALERT -- LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCILMEMBER ED REYES: Being sued Federal Court (Jury Trial) over the firing of office staffer Ruby De Vera, over claims of retaliation (and more) after running for City Council, and placing third to CM Jose Huizar in 2005. One of ZAP's (Zuma's Action Program) "Flies on the Wall", tells ZD City Council has already discussed the matter during a reccent Closed Session Budget talk. (So sounds like they had to decide how much "settlement money" they need to have on hand for the next closed session (agenda) item. SIGNIFCANCE: If some dog food, that someone may, or may not have even eaten is worth $2.7 million (or the fear of even more by jury decision), read the Plaintiff's complaint against ED REYES AND THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES AT www.zumadogg.blogspot.com, and post a comment as to how much, if anything you think this is gonna cost the City. And remember: I'm sure a lot of leagally smart people will say CM REYES was justified in his actions. (And ZD doesn't know whether he was, or wasn't.) This is about the harsh realities of "public perception". And after ZD read the complaint, from Ruby's side of the rope, I think a jury will be not only awarding anything but a "puny" punitive damage -- they will be pulling extra money out of their own pockets. And people like CM Bernie Parks KNOWS THAT. Remember, unfortunatley, the timing of the firing makes it look you have the EXACT kind of mean ol' politician bullying a nice ol' lady who is so beloved within the community -- and that pisses the F*CK out of a jury -- and that's when they go bonkers on the award. TO READ RUBY DE VERA'S FEDERAL COMPLAINT/HER SIDE OF THE STORY, AS IT WILL BE TOLD TO A JURY, I POSTED IT AT www.zumadogg.blogspot.com

ROCKY DELGADILLO: With his much appreciated analysis of Mayor Antonio Villaraigrosa's just released annual budget; the appointment of his "Econmic Development Director" Roesmary Anaya, and all his other "people's champ" watch dogg criticism of the Mayor -- common, he doesn't want to run for City Council (he feels that would be a step back for him) -- and after all his criticism of the mayor, and his vocal opposition to the Prop. R ballot bamboozle -- the mayor would tell Eli Broad to go into debt over backing a Rocky opponent for Council. So, looks like it's "Rocky 4 Mayor '09". (Unless he runs for State or U.S. office.) But ZD says it's gonna be, "ROCKY 4 MAYOR" -- SO MAYORAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS...HOLD OFF ON WRITING THOSE CHECKS...YOU MAY WANT TO PUT A LITTLE BEHIND ROCKY TO HEDGE YOUR BET, OR JUST GIVE IT ALL TO HIM. CLEARLY HE IS MORE CAPABLE THAN VIAGRAOSA. (Emphasis on the word "more".) And at the end of the day, I think Rocky wins the "smart" battle between the two and at least HAS a vision, unlike the mayor, that puts one together based on 47 different advisors. ZD calls it "paint by numbers" and it doesn't work. If it did, anyone could be mayor. At some point you have to "close public comment" and make your own decision based on innovation and leadership. And we don't have any of that in the mayor's office, this term.

JANICE HAHN SAID (In response to A-NOTHER presentation by Connie Rice at 4/25/07 Ad Hoc Gang Committee meeting)...
"The time for studies is over. It's time for action." YIKES! "Two thumbs down." It would be nice if we could put a moritorium on street crime, while we understand the situation from a Harvard level degree of research and philosphical perspective (send that sh*t to the Wall Street Journal) -- at some point you have to put down the sheet music, and play the damn guitar. I'm not discounting anything that Connie says. I'm not saying she is providing incorrect information. And she may actually be 100% correct in her analysis. But again, unfortunatley, there is no moritorium on this -- and the clock is ticking. And Connie, I think when people start saying, "No more studies", it means that "THEY GET IT", and are ready to use all your valuable input and put it to action. So thanks for the time, effort and knowlege it took for you to finally bring the City up to speed as to the harsh realities we face on the mean streets of Los Angeles. Now go take on the day.

How did the city budget get so fucked up? Why is the city in such debt yet keep spending like water.

Zuma great stuff posted. Ok here's the deal, Antonio is terrified of Rocky running because he wants his metrosexual boyfriend Fabian to win. Why do you think Antonio cut $3 million out of Rocky's budget when he was kicking ass against gang bangers? Cause Rocky was making Antonio look like an idiot not hard to do.

Ed Reyes is a womanizer and sexual harrasser from young ex employees who have said so. You bet your ass it was retaliation against Ruby. Let's find out how many other CM's have been sued that we don't know about.

Connie Rice needs to start using the word AUDIT AUDIT AUDIT AUDIT. She has said we waste $82 million and the logical common sense responsible thing for CM's to do and want to do is AUDIT all the programs. Why are they afraid to come out and say it????

The reality of it all is that when you work for an elected official, you are an at-will employee, giving the elect official the power to make staff changes as they see fit. If you come into the office wearing horrible cologne and refuse to stop using it, they can fire you. If you go to the local dive bar and get wasted every weekend, and everybody knows that you work for an elected official, the elected has the right to fire you to protect the image of their office. And when one of your staffmembers goes against the political position of your boss, and even more so if you run against an opponent endorsed by your boss, you need to have the common sense to either resign before doing so, or not be shocked one bit if you get canned by your boss.

Ruby De Vera is a veteran in City Hall, having worked for numerous administrations and having done so in various roles. She knew when she filed to run against Huizar that her boss was not going to approve of it, and that she was putting her job on the line for doing so. She is still working for the City (I think in the City Clerk's Office) and will not have any significant impact to her credits for her pension.

If you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen. And if you have the guts to go against your boss, you better be ready to deal with the consequences.

Bro,

Another hilarious and insightful post. Thanks. But HERE'S WHAT I KEEP TRYING TO TELL YOU GUYS: There is logic and there is perception. We're all big boys and girls and know that if you do something like that (run against huizar from Reyes' office), you're naive to think the machine isn't gonna swing back.

And perhaps the Federal Constitution is a liitle too loose and wide and too liberal and too perfect and it paints everyone into a corner till you can't say, "Good morning" without being sued and all of that.

* Regarding..."when one of your staffmembers goes against the political position of your boss, and even more so if you run against an opponent endorsed by your boss, you need to have the common sense to either resign before doing so, or not be shocked one bit if you get canned by your boss."

Of course "the people's champ" position is "What the hell do you expect"...And ZD FULLY recognizes that position. IT F-ING SUCKS!!!

Only thing, it does say some sh*t about political expression. In the perfect consitutional wayne dyer world of perfectionism/Fed Const., you are supposed to be able to do what ruby did.

if reyes wanted to dump her, he should have been more subtle, instead of doing it one week after. Perhaps some kind of reassignment elsewhere, then cut her from there. COMMON PEOPLE!!! WHEN YOU RETAILATE -- DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen (removes hat, bows low and prepares to sing):

"Here's the tale of Ruby and Lucile,
Two before the Clowncil prepared to strike a deal.
Enter then Hamlet for his the show to steal.
Sounds like a soap opera to me!

With Lucille it was spying upon her at her work.
With Ruby it was crying that her boss was a do-nothing jerk.
With Hamlet it was denying overtime $$$ that is a perk.
Sounds like a soap opera to me!

(Chorus)
Raise you glasses lads, and toast the clueless clowns.
If our huzzahs are loud enough then they will surely drown
Out the nasty beasties in the City Hall that be......
Oh, raise your glasses laddies for a soap opera it be!

Enter Old Man Johnson upon whom Dinger does await.
Three Clowncilmen will soon learn of their own court battle fate.
Don Jose, Garshady and Do-Nuthin have all be caught on tape.
Sounds like a soap opera to me.

How much will this all cost the citizens so dear?
Probably several million taken hard up side their rears.
For Lucille, Ruby and Hamlet alone do strike some fear....
And it sounds like a soap opera to me!

(Chorus)
Raise you glasses lads, and toast the clueless clowns.
If our huzzahs are loud enough then they will surely drown
Out the nasty beasties in the City Hall that be......
Oh, raise your glasses laddies for a soap opera it be!

Now what do these four folks have in common you do ask?
A suit before the judge holding the Clowncil out to task.
For the misdeeds of the City that are no longer easy to mask.
(sniffs the air) Smells like a soap opera to me!

Never say that a pirate does not tell a wicked tale.
For tell you we do, sometimes to no avail.
But Ruby, Lucille and Hamlet with Old Man Johnson on their tail.....
Hot damn! It's a sopa opera! Whoopee!

(Captain Jack gets ready for grand finale)

Ah yes! A SOAP OP-PER-RA IT BE........!"

(Crew throws tomatoes at Captain Jack)
Oh bugger, they don't seem to like having an Irish bard for a captain now, do they?

Cpt. Jack,

Nice clues...it helped me read a little more of the tea leaf. some info that i thought was UNREALTED may be related and tie it all together.

Can you answer this: Did someone at City Hall lose their employment because of an arrest for some bad stuff, only to be exonerated later?

So basically, someone knows where to look, then pass it on to ZD for making heads or tails out of it.

Got some fun stuff about how much money Rocky made at the company he worked at before City Attorney. And the name of some firm someone keeps telling me to look into.

Who cares how much he made? What doe thst have to do with the price of tea in China?

You are cast adrift in a sea of facts; as the poet said "Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink."

This information is pearls before swine. Give it up and get a real job.

In politics, as in the world of show business, perception is reality.

Like it or not, how you are perceived directly affects reality.

Zuma "Deming" Dogg, still hasn't come to that conclusion. He needs to beat his head against a brick wall several times before he learns it is still hard.

Dave Elliott never got it either.

You are perceived as a gadfly, ergo no one takes you seriously.

You are humored, because the law requires the elected officials to hear you out in the alloted time, but there is a difference between hearing and listening; they hear you, they don't listen. And there is nothing that can make them listen, except your, or someone much more adept, persuading them to listen to what is being said.

Dancing, shouting, ranting, acting like a fool does nothing to persuade anyone. The message is lost because of the messenger.

Give that a little thought.

By the way, no one really give a rat's ass about lawsuit involving Reyes; proably not even Reyes himself. Save your money and buy some kool aid.
