THURSDAY OUTTAKES FROM CD 14, THE "CUT AND PASTE" CAPITAL OF LOS ANGELES
1. "COUNCILMAN HUIZAR'S STAFF SHAKE UPS"
One would think that winning re-election would be good for job security. But in CD 14, nothing is never the norm. Activists and posters are reporting that big changes are underway. In the El Sereno office, Ricardo Monroy and Frank Torres are gone. In Boyle Heights, newcomer Paul Vizcano has been assigned from City Hall. In Eagle Rock, it is rumored that a new field director is to be named. And former Campaign Manager Henry Casas is now working for the councilman.
Yet as of early today, no changes have been made to the Councilman web site. Business as usual for Huizar?
2. "CRA/LA ADELANTE PROJECT SAGA CONTINUES"
Activists in El Sereno and Boyle Heights continue their call for the results of the elections to the PAC for the Adelante Redevelopment Project, to be thrown out. This is due to what they perceived to be a lack of outreach.
Also on the radar screen is the role and motives of the USC MEDICAL COMPLEX. It is no secret that USC is looking to expand their complex. Also if the rumored merging of the Counties "Whiteside Project" and the citie's "Adelante Project" were to take place. Then USC could be the leader in the establishment of the "BIO TECH CORRIDOR" along Valley Blvd.
One must remember that USC controls the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council with David Galaviz as President.
3. "ASCOT HILLS PARK COMMUNITY MEETING"
A meeting on the next phase of the Ascot Hills Passive Park, is being plan by Councilman Huizar's office. what is interesting about this is the following. "DID FORMER COUNCILMAN VILLARIAGOSA ALREADY DO THIS?? So why the replay? It seems that once again, our Mayor left another "PHOTO OP" for others to complete after taking credit for just that. There was one "WELL KNOWN" Villar staffer in El Sereno who pissed off the community with her "RAISED VOICE DEFENCE" of all the great ideas that her boss had for the community.

Frankie *ES District Coordinator-worked 14 days straight after work hours prior to the election for Jose. In the last 2 plus months, he worked every weekend walking precincts for Jose. What a way to go out.

It was a given that after the CD14 Election, that Councilmember Huizar was going to make some moves to improve the gaps that were brought to light during the campaign, either by the other candidates or by community activists who had the chance to get the Councilmember's ear.
Ricardo Monroy's departure isn't much of a surprise, as rumor had it that he was looking to leave since he was sent from City Hall to the Field (it happens when you go from the Ivory Tower to work directly with the serfs).
But Frank Torres leaving is somewhat shocking. That guy was dedicated to the Councilmember, going back his days as School Board Member. He is young, but is a sharp guy with plenty of experience under his belt. Whoever picks him up will be getting a good staffmember. It's like when the Dodgers picked up Nomar Garciaparra. Yeah, I took it there.
Seeing Paul Vizcaino arrive in Boyle Heights is an interesting surprise, since he always seemed like the guy you'd expect to be at home working within the madness of City Hall. But something had to be done about Denise Campos. She always came off like a snob, as if she was meant for bigger things and being located in Boyle Heights was not exactly what she wanted. But unlike the other fellows, she was moved to another office. I guess the Councilmember sees some value in her.
Paul Vizcaino has plenty of experience in grassroots organizing, and is has a good reputation among the politicos in the scene. If he's able to create a balance between all the work in Boyle Heights with his staff, and knows how to work with the community and the local CBOs, I think he'll be well.
Is this just the beginning of the staff changes to come, or is this what Councilmember Huizar and his Executive Team feel will solve the majority of their problems.
As for Henry Casas, there's little word on the street about who he is. Sure, people know him for leading the re-election campaign for Huizar, but that doesn't say much about his ability to handle tough projects. It'll be interesting what role he plays within this administration, but something tells me that he'll be spearheading something big in the field.
Keep your fingers crossed folks, because the best (I bet) is yet to come.

Zuma I hope this guy is making and posting false info.
Doesn't make Jose look to good when he constantly is turning over his staff. Compare Jose's staff to those of other council members and you will see a definite difference. They seem to be more mature, behave more adult and get more respect. Jose has a bunch of young kids just like Antonio and his parade of little girls in the community.
rundown of CD14 who's gone and why-
Paul Vizcaino: Didn't get along with city hall staff, too snobby and ambitious, but can't fire him because his family connections to AV. He is still a city commissioner right? I bet he's pissed he has to work in Boyle heights.
Ricardo Monroy: didn't leave until he was fired because he didn't have anywhere else to go. He's pissed off so many community members, staffers, and other electeds his only friend is AT. He is a holdover because of how AT helped Jose get elected the first time around.
Frank Torres, Frank Aguirre: Too bad these guys are gone. They're gone because of their loyalty to TR. TR put them under his belt while they were still in diapers and trained the crap out of them. They are up and coming staffers who were very loyal to Jose as well. They just got caught in the crossfire between Avila and Ricasa.

Henry Casas: New Field District Office Director right? Can we call him Alvin? Paid union boy and resident metrosexual (after Ricardo Monroy and Paul Vizcaino).
