Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

Claudia MacMahon joined the staff of Councilman Dennis Zine Monday as communications deputy. MacMahon's background includes several years as a senior producer at Fox News Channel and Good Morning America. MacMahon - of course - replaces super smart uber hottie Jennifer Forkish who left the post nearly a year ago to take a high level position with the Grocers association.

We reported it Monday and indeed we were right - Ruby the elephant is no longer going to be penned up at the LA Zoo and she will spend the rest of her days at an appropriate preserve in San Andreas. However, the Mayor remains committed to building the LA Zoo's multi-million dollar elephant pen (the six acre pen is about the size of an average city park, hardly enough space for elephants who are used to roaming for miles in the wild), despite the fact that many experts feel that large animals like elephants don't belong in zoos. For a fraction of the cost, the city could hire Walt Disney Imagineering to build a virtual elephant exhibit with animatronics and live holographic video of the elephants at the preserve. In the meantime, once again Lloyd "The Bachelor" Levine decides to get in on the act.

Among the items covered in Rick Orlov's latest report include labor and business both taking credit for Clowncil wins, runoff strategies of the Lauritzen-Galatzan school board race and Arnold preparing to call a July special election (oh boy!) to elect someone to take Richard Alarcon's 39th District Assembly Seat. There's only choice for that spot - Monica Rodriguez. This old, dead Republican mayor urges her to run.

Here's a great idea: The West Van Nuys/Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council plans to spend $50,000 on emergency preparedness for their community. Some dum dums might criticize them for this move, but its an excellent investment in the well being of the community. The expenditure must be approved by the full City Council. We urge the Council's approval of the move, it might be a nice gesture given that some of their fellow members lost the Valley Fair for this community.

And finally, the Westside White Guy is at it again. His distinctly limousine liberal myopia has led him to jump on the latest fishwrap attack on Mayor Villaraigosa's plan for free citywide wi-fi. Free internet for the masses! Not as long as the WWG is around! Quick! Lets get a meeting! Who's going to stop at Trader Joe's for the snacks?

Such a shame that more people are now concerned with the battle for control of the district than the battle for better education. We are now fighting a battle about fighting a battle, rather than fighting the battle itself.

Watch---that's what the gang thing is going to devolve into. People calling for more studies, more battles about battles, rather than getting down to business.

Antonio needs to get rid of Matt Szabo for making him look like an idiot and saying the wrong stuff at his photo ops.
"This isn't because of pressure"

Yeah right!!! Why didn't Antonio come out last year and tell clowncil to send Ruby to the sanctuary then when they were voting on spending $40 million on new exhibit? And why after two years wasn't Ruby ever allowed out to be seen by people visiting the LA Zoo?

7:54 AM,

Did someone say, "This isn't because of pressure."

Seriously, I am laughing. I know a lot of people reading this have probably heard of Tony Robbins, and maybe been to his seminars or heard his tapes...So you already know what I am going to say.

If I say, "Don't think of a big old red, white and blue flag blowing in the wind. I repeat, DO NOT thnk of a red, white and blue flag. (oops, you visualized it/thought about it anyway.

WHY DON'T YOU JUST ADMIT YOU DID IT BECAUSE OF PRESSURE, BECAUSE YOU JUST DID ANYWAY.

Don't say why you DIDN'T do it...Come up with some bullsh*t reason why you DID do it.

Don't say, "Please don't drop-out of school." You MUST say, "Please, stay in school." Same desired effect...opposite verbage. Here's an idea. Matt Szabo (if that's who's responsible) -- write the speech as you usually would, then go back and re-word the whole thing, using opposite verbage. Then you should be O.K. Or simply try and say it the way ZD would.

Here's a thread from yesterday on this topic of non-strategic public speak in the media.

Bad Speech Strategy

Speaking of the Ruby photo-op, is it wishful thinking on my part, or have the local TV stations gotten tired of covering Villaraigosa?

I ask because in Channel 2's story on it last night, they mentioned that the mayor was present, but they only showed him from behind, standing next to the elephant for photos.

They did show someone speaking to the crowd -- and even broadcast that person's remarks -- but it didn't look like the usual fawning coverage for AV.

Walter I sure hope you're right and the local media have had it with his ugly mug being at every damn event in the city. Even clowncil are tired of him honing in on their press conf. AV has his boys scouring finding out where everything is happening then AV shows up. AV is looking pretty bad these days with losing his hair, the greshian formula dye job, wrinkles like a dried up raisin and that greasy, sweaty look is disgusting.
