Dog food goes boom (so to speak)

It seems that the overwhelming sense of outrage sparked by my report on Councilmember Parks' latest intimidation tactic has spread beyond the confines of the Mayor Sam comment-o-sphere.

Yesterday, Martini Republic weighed in on the story, condemning Parks as "an enemy to free speech," and then last night (on short notice), KABC's Kevin James (pictured) devoted a segment in the third hour of his program to the report, raking the Councilmember over the coals for his apparent abuse of City resources.

In case you missed Kevin's program, you can listen to the audio archive by — oh wait, no you can't. Hey Kevin, what gives?

I bet he has a lot of listeners between 3-4 am. You're on your way to "60 Minutes."

Why are all the posters on this blog only interested in promoting themselves?

Dumbshit, Kevin James is now on at 10 p.m.

Also the story was on John & Ken, drive time, highest rated program in Southern California.

152 must be Bitter Bernie Jr. who I have know deemed "Little Bitt."

If my name is already on the list who cares now right? Its an honor to be an enemy of the state.

I should say have now deemed "Little Bitt."

Kevin was actually on during the 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. time slot last night. For what it's worth, the midnight to 1 a.m. hour, hosted just a few weeks ago by Mr. KABC, was the highest-rated hour in all of Southern California radio (beating out Coast to Coast and all FM stations).

That said, you are correct that most people are sleeping at midnight, which is why I mentioned it today -- for those who missed it. I have nothing to promote (and probably more to lose); I simply resurrected a story that broke on KFI a few weeks back because it bothers me that a Councilmember is getting a free pass for playing games with the LAPD.

Does that not bother you?

Sammy Boy, since you feel ad hominem attacks are the preferred method of addressing your critics, I will go along:

Dear Fatshit,

Whether Kevin James is ranting at 3 a.m. or midnight, his audience is relatively miniscule.

But that's not the point.

The point is that the regulars on this blog -- especially your idiotic pals ZD, Dowd, Moore and the maniac who writes in all caps -- suffer from severe inferiority complexes that compel them to jump up and down and pound their chests like idiots the moment anyone with a real job in the media notices their existence -- even if they're really goofing on them. It's tawdry. You don't really think these talk show hosts would be seen in public with any of you, do you?

And if you think I'm young Parks, you've never met him.

3:26, I neither pumped my chest, nor requested dinner with Kevin, and with all due respect, I think you are overreacting to what I posted.

Regardless of your opinion of the Pierce case, did it not bother you to learn that Parks is playing games with LAPD? I'll bet you were unaware of this story until I posted it; at least credit me with that?

You already posted on that jerk Parks and the dog food. It was very newsy, unusual for this site. Good job.

This one was about you!

Just don't shave your head and start rapping.

4:09, I found it newsworthy that, regardless of his listenership, Kevin took a credibility risk to discuss on-air, and at length, something that appeared on the Mayor Sam blog.

Was I supposed to pretend someone else wrote it?

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, but I do feel better that at least we've found somewhat of a middle ground, and I thank you for the compliment.

Good post Antonio Watch, and keep posting on this topic as developments occur.

This just shows how little bitter bernie does not have the temperament or judgement to be in a position of power. He failed in his job as police chief, and he is largely failing in his job as CM. I hope talk radio continues to shine a bright light on this.

Mr. Antonio Watch:

I have no idea why you threw in with these jerks when you had a perfectly fine blog.
Given MAV's penchant for publicity -- and the rumors surrounding the guy -- you should have been able to post two or three legit items a day, with your comment. The guy is a national star. See Tina Daunt's comumn in today's LAT. Those would have attracted as much daily interest, if not more, than ZD's rantings about some obscure management consultant, or why he wasn't allow to rap during a council meeting. And God knows, does anybody -- I mean anybody! -- give a shit about CD14? I'm old enough to remember Sam Yorty. He was a corrupt, despicable, racist moron. I wouldn't associate with his corpse. Strike out on your own and put this fat bastard out of business.

2 things:

people like this blog I'm sure for the VARIETY it presents

and damn, you's always mention ZD first, ALWAYS, but at least you listed me ahead of Walter. thats something I can pump my chest with. just like my hero Mr Tom theBong. go Los Angeles, its a great City and we need great chest pumpers to motivate the rest of you slack ass losers who are apparently watching as the carpet gets pulled right out from under your chair.

Thank you 6:04. I will definitely stay on this story; it's nothing short of scandalous, and we cannot allow these guys to believe that they are unaccountable for their actions.

7:13, thanks for the kind words. The original Antonio Watch concept called for bringing other contributors into the fold in order to keep the Mayor on a short leash, so to speak.

The reality is, in order to publish a successful blog, you've got to have fresh content every day. My lifestyle simply doesn't afford the time necessary to follow Villaraigosa's every move alone.

Mayor Sam, on the other hand, was successful in achieving that all-important critical mass and I have enormous respect for the work he's put into his blog. When he asked me to contribute to the site, the decision of whether to post once a week on my own site, or post once a week on Mayor Sam (of which, I was already a fan, and where my articles will actually get noticed) was really no decision at all. I was honored to join.

Whatever your opinion of the cast of characters and individual posts, you cannot deny that Mayor Sam's blog is the guilty pleasure of L.A. politics. Yes, it's a place for news and opinion, but the comedy, inflamed passions, libelous rumors, third-grade mudslinging, and anonymous insider juice keep us coming back for more.

Looks like Bitter Bernie has his spiners working hard. Those who dismiss the AM talk show hosts are ignorant. John & Ken KFI brought down Tienne Pearce for the sleaze bag he is. LA Weekly story will hurt him in court.

Now Bitter Bernie had to be really pissed off that at Chief Bratton's roasting the other night where 1,000 people in attendance at the Century Plaza Hotel heard the most hilarious jokes about him. Everyone laughed at the mention of his name. That has to hurt a man who has the biggest ego next to Antonio's. This is a great story about the lengths a clowncil member who is a control freak will go to threaten people.

And they wonder why we call them clowns:

UN-PLANNING AS USUAL
The City Council decided to sell off the air rights to the convention center without figuring how added density would affect downtown, the Times says, quoting experts. "There's no vision or larger plan about where to put high-density corridors, or what is going to be the impact of this density on traffic," said Anastasia Loukaitou-Sideris, chairwoman of UCLA's urban planning department. Steven P. Erie, director of the Urban Studies Program at UC San Diego, said the city's projections for sewer, transportation, public safety and other needs would have to change to accommodate the crush of people in a small area that would result from the construction of very high condominium or apartment towers.

AW: Well, we disagree. I think there's very little "news" since the "the comedy, inflamed passions, libelous rumors, third-grade mudslinging, and anonymous insider juice" turns off so many intelligent people who might participate. It's like reading graffiti on the wall of a public restroom.

It's a great idea that's poorly executed. There are hundreds of political blogs that manage to be informative and entertaining without allowing the patients to run the asylum.

People like 9:05 continue to read whilst they whine.

He thinks Mayor Sam should be a carbon copy of Daily Kos or Huffington Post or LA Observed.

Its the rough and tumble that makes it what it is.

And why everyone reads it.

I don't think laosbserve or lavoice or the other blogs get nearly the hits as Mayor Sam. I love when people complain and post their comment but say they don't like this blog. Matt's right go somewhere else. Bitter Bernie has his spinsters on here we can tell.
