Cruel Summer Coming for CSU?

This morning trustees of the Cal State University system voted to hike student fees at their meeting in Long Beach. The average increase will be around 10%.

In the meantime everyone is awaiting the results of a faculty union vote on what could result in systemwide "rolling" strikes and would be the largest such action in California history.

Faculty union representatives say that pay for professors, counselors and coaches have not kept up with the market nationally nor the cost of living in California.

Boy a lot of people are going to be pissed off. Not a good time to be a CSU trustee I would say.

Jeez, they have been raising rates since I was in CSU 15-20 years ago. Everything has gone WAY up and California still has one of (if not THE) lowest tuition/fee structures of any state college system. At one point, it was cheaper to go to a UC than a community college in the state of Maryland.

So they'll work a few more hours, and cut back on their cell phones and their manicures. If they want to go to school, they'll pay for it and if they were looking for an excuse to drop out, they now have one--a lame one.

What is the amount of the tuition? I bet it's a tiny fraction of the actual cost of providing the education.
