City Housing Agency "Misplaced" $70 Million

The Los Angeles Housing Authority, which has an annual budget of $810 million, allegedly "misplaced" $70 million of YOUR hard-earned tax money, that was earmarked for the poor, according to a lawsuit the City filed today.

Those particular funds were supposed relocated later -- probably when someone noticed how the money had been transferred out of the accounts in which it belonged. Other allegations include executives giving your money to cronies for "consulting" services.

Oh, and all of this was pointed out back in 1997, but no one at the City bothered to take action, so the statute of limitations expired on God only knows how much waste, fraud and embezzlement.

But what the heck, let's hand these same geniuses another $1 billion of our money to help the homeless through Measure H, right? I mean, if they're going to steal millions, we're going to have to give them a billion if we expect results, aren't we?

Mayor Sam,

you keep blocking all of my comments.

Do you only publish comments from people who are opposed to Measure H?

I tried to post the LA Times Editorail supporting H and I tried to clarify the misinformation that Walter is spreading in this thread

(namely Measure H will be administered by Los Angeles Housing Department NOT Los Angeles Housing Authority... the agency mentioned here)

but you don't post my comments in support of H. How many others are you blocking who disagree with yuou on this or other issues?

If you blog is completely biased at this point, you should let you readers know that.

For best results, use a civil tone, and try to marshall reasoning and/or evidence for your position. Also, we're not going to invite copyright litigation by letting people "reprint" entire articles from other sources here.

You are welcome to disagree with what any of us say, but if all you want to do is engage in name-calling, well, don't expect to read your comments here.

The goal here is for intelligent, informed discussion of L.A. politics and public policies, as opposed to, say, something more akin to drunken rants of the stupid.

P.S. The idea that our billion dollars in taxes will somehow be "safe" if it is spent by one of the various city housing departments rather than another strikes me as optimistic at best. Does ANY part of City Hall have better financial controls than any other? Judging from the endless stream of audits from Laura Chick -- which apparently missed the defalcation in this article -- the answer is "no."
