NCs Win First Battle of the Revolution of 2006

The judge has ordered the Clowncil's Measure R off the November ballot. Short of some last ditch ruling by a higher court, it looks like its gone as the ballot printing deadline is tomorrow.

There go the NC election results. . . next year, West-by-Northridge, 13 voters & and Mid-City West, 8 (maybe 9).

The mini-me council "leaders" will be off on junkets now, chasing state measures next, while NO ONE at home even knows who they are.

That ain't sour grapes, that's bitter fruit for the stakeholders. The little boy loudmouths think they're giant killers, and all they did was trip a clumsy oaf who was already teatering.

Who suffers?

Still no effective NCs on their home turf to improve the community, and next year, Prop. R1A is on the ballot, fixed. And the "sneak attack" screams will be meaningless.

Very Nice,

Just in case you still needed the numbers, there are 76,319 registered voters in CD14.

Jose Huizar received 19,901 votes. Do you think a council member who fails to get 56,418 out of 76,319 has a mandate or is even secure in his seat?

There is a great opportunity in CD 14 if a candidate stays true to the people and starts his or her campaign early enough.

People...this had NOTHING to do with Neighborhood Councils! Where does it say that NCs battled it or gave money to it? It was ONE person backed by the national U.S. Term Limits group.

NOTHING to do with NCs!!!!!!!

They are completely fucking powerless! And no...not a a City employee either.

David Hernandez,
Do you have anyone in mind?

What if a woman runs for CD 14?

Any historical ring to it?

12:55 Break that number in half!

Half of the votes he received were from illegals in CD14. His own people managing polls.

Pathetic!

talk about sour grapes! 12:57, Neighborhood Councils were the first to speak up and ay this measure was improper. You can hate them, say they suck, disavow their efectiveness, but there's just no arguing that NCs were the first to call the City Council out and defend the rights of "regular people" down here on the ground. Only a lobbyist or city hall insider would resent or deny that. And incidentally, the NCs filed their own suit (and won) and submitted supporting documents in the Donner case. So, yes, this is their victory too.

Bitter, bitter, bitter. Just accept your loss and hush now.

Hold your horses, kids. City is appealing. Sorry...that statement might have been misleading. City WILL APPEAL the decision.

Let them appeal. Ahot sots. Did you hear that large, round black ball whistle past you and land in the water with a kerplunk? That was the warning shot.

Unless I miss my guess, no superior court or appellate court judge wants to go on record as overtuning the California State Constitution.

Bugger the appeallants. Here's what we do lads (and ladies). All hands muster to the firing line and stand ready. Zuma, you take the crows nest and let us know what the sots are doing. Dgarzila, your job is to make sure that we've actually got something to light the cannons with. Whatever it is that will light up a crack pipe, that will do nicely.

Ladies, your task is simple. GO GET MORE RUM!

Hernandez,

Why do you always tell less than half the truth -- and usually the portion that is the least important aspect of the story? (I know the answer, just wanted you to know you've been caught).

Huizar got well over 50 percent (56, 57??), in what was a pretty fair turnout for a primary, special, off-cycle election where there was nothing else of consequence on the ballot to bring people out to vote.

His closest, and better known opponent was left behind in the low 30s after spending about $1 million to regain the seat. The remaining half-dozen minor opponents (all of which trashed Huizar collectively for weeks), barely showed on the radar... 3-5 percent each in the voting.

Considering all those aspects (multiple opponents, special election, etc.) he actually did better than Villaraigosa two years earlier.

All this with NO runoff necessary -- and he barely lost a precinct, other than one or two in Pacheco's backyard.

Challenging him after less than two years in office would be a pure waste of time and effort. He's well-liked, has actually followed the Pacheco pattern of moving things ahead -- versus the Villaraigosa "sit it out and wait for the next bus" routine -- while still playing it relatively safe... no major screwups.

His staff actually knows to use paper to wipe with, and not their hands (unlike AV's), and by CD14 standards, that's a major improvement.

Short of someone coming up with photos of him en la cama con el chivo he's pretty much untouchable (and that might actually add a few animal rights advocates to his column).

Anyone who would bother to mount a funded campaign would be doing it for name recognition only -- with some other future race in mind.

(sigh!) More tax dollars wasted! When are they going to learn that City taxes don't grow on trees?

NCs have yet to be tested in anything that requires actual PEOPLE to support them.

This saved them from a major trouncing and huge embarrassment. The NC system would have died (faster) from this battle with people the constituents actually know (city council) versus the wannabes who pretended to have popular support (NCs).

NC'S WON INDEED. THANKS JASON, JEFF, DAN AND THE GUY WHO FILED TO GET IT OFF THE BALLOT.

Neighborhood Councils started the battle and got publicity then everyone followed behind in a show of support.

If those assholes waste any more of our tax dollars trying to APPEAL they will really hear from us. People should storm city council on Tuesday to let me know we are sick and tired of their shit and not one penny better be used anymore for this crap. David Hernandez you should move into CD14 and run or Zuma Dogg.

Do these few, chest beating, self appointed, Neighborhood Council leaders really think this term limits thing would have gotten past the voters. Remember voters have regularly check politicians when they get out of line. How many bond and tax increase measures went down in flames before NCs. Can we get a reality check on these guys.

Come on Mayor Sam, I know you are an old dead republican but are you brain dead also.

We had gotten away with combining two issues into a ballot measure in order to fool the voters, but we went to the well one too many times. The neighborhood councils mustered up the courage to take us on, and they won.

Let's not waste more of the taxpayers' money for something that just benefits us. There are many people who would have voted to give us another term if we had done it honestly.

I suggest that we cut our losses on this one right now, hold that the voters forget about it, and then find ways to get a pound of flesh from the neighborhood councils without being to obvious about it.

All this talk about opening up government, being more transparent, and working with the neighborhood councils was fine as long as they didn't get in our way except for a zoning measure here and there. But now it's getting out of hand. We need to get government back into the smoke-filled rooms.
