Trash Tax Revenues Not Going For More Cops After All

Someone out there needs to pitch "Liar, Liar 2: L.A. City Hall."

The Mayor and City Clowncil just set a new record for breaking promises to the public.

Remember how we supposedly needed the trash tax -- er, "fee" -- to pay for 1000 more cops? You know, because no one noticed that the City was already taking in $717 million more this year than last? It was the one where they said it would pay for 1000 officers, but something like 650 of them would just be replacements for attrition? You remember -- it was just four month ago.

Well, the Clowncil has decided that the money would actually be better spent on special programs for -- you guessed it -- "the children." So instead of hiring more police officers, your money will be diverted to political cronies and their dubious "youth programs," which have, of course, proved so very effective in reducing gang violence here to practically zero.

Bastards!!!!%^&%$#*(

Just 2 weeks ago all media reported the study the clowncil morons gave to Connie Rice to see how the gang prevention programs were doing came back stating that $82 MILLION WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. They had no record of any successes with the programs so these idiots give them more. WHO'S AGENDA MOTION WAS IT????
These clowncil members just keep giving us more reasons to get rid of their sorry asses. They are a laughing stock in the nation and now Zuma Dogg and his "Outlaws" have taken over clowncil chambers. They are now promoting their show which in reality is the replay of city clowncil members at 7:30p as their show. Pathic!!!!

The $717 million was a one-time thing...similar to California's surplus this year due to the housing boom. THE 717 MILLION DOLLARS IS NOT PERMANENT!!!!!!! Get that through your brain. Once that money runs out for new cops...where will the $ come from? Oh wait...its going to have to come from taxes. Get over your anti-taxation beliefs. In order to have a government and government services that you are so nicely accustomed to, you're going to have to pay more taxes. Fucking nitwit.

This blog has turned to shit. How did the Home of LA Politics turn into a NIMBY and NC infested shithold Higby? You had a good site...now look at it.

I have a question. If we said "enough already", would the Clowncil listen? First it was the school takeover that was done behind the scenes. Then it was Measure R. Then it was Jack Weiss and his little blunder with the NC's. Now it's this.

Obviously the Clowncil doesn't listen. So I'll ask all of you. Have you had enough already?

It's going to take all of us to do the one thing we can do to make it perfectly clear that enough is enough. And that one thing is vote. Clowncil staffers, take serious note.

If there is an election coming up in your neighborhood council....VOTE. Run for office. Support NC candidates who are not afraid to stand up to the Clowncil. There is at least one of those candidates in every NC.

When the Clowncil election comes up.....VOTE for someone else other than the incumbent, the Mayor's endorsed or the political party annointed. VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!!

This November in the General Election for State Senate and State Assembly....VOTE FOR ANYONE NOT ENDORSED BY THE MAYOR. Who gives a shit if they are Democrat, Republican, Green, P&F. The Mayor endorsed plenty of folks during the May primaries....DO NOT VOTE FOR THEM! Chances are they took money from the same crooks that give the Clowncil and Mayor money.

VOTE AGAINST ANYTHING ENDORSED BY THE MAYOR OR CITY CLOWNCIL.

VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!!

When it's time for staff appointments, ATTEND THE VETTING SESSION. Speak up if there is a staffer that you know of who has aided and abetted the Mayor, Clowncil or anyone associated with the Mayor or Clowncil. Spread the word.

VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!!!!!

The only way to send an unmistakeable message to the elected officials of this City is to target them, their cronies, their staff.

Blog them. Name names. Put their face up so we know what they look like. Anytime a new staffer is announced, do the due diligence and blog the crap out of them. Scan documents and post them.

We better soon see more cops on the streets or NC's will push a motion through at the congress of NC's directing the CIty Council to use the money to get more cops on the street which was the intention. This will be the embarrasing thing that could happen to them.

This is a good reason why NC's should be able to put forth motions to the City Council.

This is really going to make it difficult for the City Council to get four more years of this.

Mayor Sam & Walter,

Kevin James on KABC kicked off his show on Friday Night outraged over this same story...which triggered an over two hour conversation about the "clowns" in Council Chambers, besides yours truly.

He did start mentioning "Zuma Dogg" and how funny it would be if they Mayor actually had to answer to me, and how we're shaking them up at city hall.

He also mentioned Walter Moore, and how he likes you emails, and how Doug McIntyre gave you a nice stamp of approval, but giving you time on his radio show.

So, all of this is working...I gotta get the aircheck of Kevin's discussion of all this, and my call into his show posted on the net.

AND: PLEASE, go to www.ZumaDogg.com and see the latest posted YouTube of a "Public Comment" from this week.

After busting into City Hall like the Tazmanian Devil for four months, I want people to see how the support of the people, and all thier information and stories, has allowed me to evolve in some of the ways people have been saying I should.

www.ZumaDogg.com (click myspace link.)

And Mayor Sam, Walter Moore and everyone else on this blog (like Godzilla, who I chilled with during Friday's Meeting)...

Maaaaan, they are feeling us. I think this will go down as the beginning of an era, we we slowly chip away and create some real ethics reform. Not because they want to, but because it'll be good for their careers. And political motivation (wanting to do good things for the city, so you can get re-elected or move up the political ladder) is still the best checks and balance system, out there.

So, I think we're showing them, the only way to succeed in politics, anymore, is through integrity (even if you have to be advised on how to have it), otherwise: You gonna lose out to a guy named "Zuma Dogg" on an official ballot, you fools!

Before you claim the $717 million was a "one-time thing," I suggest you look at the budget for the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that.

THEN come back and tell us it was a "one-time fluke."

I've looked at the prior years' budgets. You, obviously, have not.

Property values have skyrocketed over the past five years, due in part to low interest rates. As a result, when properties have changed hands, they are taxed at the new and improved rates, which means oceans more cash for the crooks to spend.

So before you call someone else a nitwit, and if you EVER hope to rise above your current position of Listermint strip boy, you may want to get for facts straight, Lil Staffer.

Amen, and congratulations on your truly ingenious use of theatrics to substitute for special-interest funding. And I do believe we're at the start, if not the middle, of a process of waking up the apathetic voters.

Did you ever see a movie from the 1980's called "They Live?" It was hilarious and telling at the same time. Long story short: aliens take over Earth, but essentially brainwash humans, through TV and radio, into not noticing their presence.

I haven't really done it justice, but it's a great metaphor for L.A. The average resident has no idea how badly he's being ripped off, and how special interests receive hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

And the media, rather than serving as a watchdog, instead merely slavishly repeats every press release without questioning its contents. Hence, for example, Villaraigosa gets away with calling himself a "fiscal conservative" who has overcome a "structural deficity" by making "cuts," when in fact he has expanded spending to soak up a $717 million windfall. Likewise, Angelides gets away with labeling his proposed increase in rent subsidies as "tax cuts."

The power of the blogosphere and local talk radio is starting to wake people up to the truth, but we've got a long way to go.

The good news is, even the print media may be forced to acknowledge reality. In that regard, I suggest everyone take a look at Sunday's opinion section in the Daily Journal . . . .

Campaign Finance Key Player:
John Huang
This profile was compiled from Washington Post and washingtonpost.com staff reports. Click on linked names to read other profiles, or see the full list of key players.

At the heart of the Senate investigation into fund-raising improprieties sits John Huang.

From The Post:
• A Fund-Raiser's Rise and Fall, May 13, 1997
• The Curious Cast of Asian Donors, Jan. 27, 1997

While a mid-level Commerce Department official, Huang (pronounced "Wong") enjoyed extraordinary access to President Clinton. He also attended dozens of briefings involving classified information, even as he maintained ties to the Lippo Group, the Indonesian conglomerate for which he had been head of U.S. operations.

As a fund-raiser for the Democratic National Committee in 1996, Huang raised $3.4 million for the party and its campaign, mostly from the Asian American community. The DNC has since returned nearly half of the money, determining that it was improperly raised or came from questionable donors, some of them from overseas.

Among the donors: John K.H. Lee, Pauline Kanchanalak , and Arief and Soraya Wiriadinata, the son-in-law and daughter of a top Lippo Group executive.

Huang organized the fund-raiser at the Hsi Lai Temple outside Los Angeles, where Vice President Al Gore helped collect $140,000 – most of which has since been returned.

Investigators are also exploring whether Huang may have served as an "agent of influence" of the People's Republic of China, perhaps funneling money from Beijing into American political campaigns.

Jian-Nan Huang was born April 14, 1945, in Fujian, China. He and his family fled across the Taiwan Strait to Taipei four years later as Chinese Nationalists fell to the Communists.

Huang came to the United States in 1969. In 1972, after earning his MBA, he moved to the Washington area. Huang was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1976.

Huang worked for several American banks, always making the most of his language skills and familiarity with Asian markets. He traveled widely – to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and China.

He first met Mochtar Riady, who along with his son, James, heads the Lippo Group, at a financial seminar in Little Rock in 1980. A featured speaker was Bill Clinton, then in his first term as governor. Huang was later hired by James Riady's Worthen Banking Group in Little Rock.

Huang worked and socialized with a number of friends and associates of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton. In October 1985, he escorted the Clintons and an Arkansas group at a seminal Asia trade mission.

Huang's next move was to Los Angeles to run the Bank of Trade, later renamed Lippo Bank, U.S.A. He became active in Democratic politics, and his growing influence among ethnic groups made him a potent fund-raiser.

Within weeks of Clinton's 1992 victory, Huang began lobbying for an administration job. In December 1993, Clinton named Huang deputy assistant secretary for international economic affairs at Commerce, responsible for Asian trade matters. Huang took a 50 percent pay cut from his Lippo salary, but the blow was softened by a severance package worth more than $750,000.

In 1995, after Clinton made inquiries on his behalf, Huang moved to a fund-raising job at the Democratic National Committee.

Some DNC records appear to suggest Huang may have started fund-raising before he left his government job, which would have been a violation of the Hatch Act.

In October 1996, the Democratic National Committee removed Huang from his duties gathering political contributions for the party. Following the election, the party laid him off.

Sandy Hume
Journalist
On Sunday, February 22nd, 1998, Sandy Hume, the 28-year-old son of journalist Britt Hume, was reportedly found dead in his Arlington, Virginia home. Aside from the statement that this was an "apparent" suicide, there remains in place a total media blackout on this story, possibly out of concern that the actual facts will not withstand public scrutiny. Indeed, it was reported in Associated Press that the Arlington Police were not responding to any inquiries.
Hume was a reporter for The Hill magazine, newspaper about Congress for Congress, and had broken a major story in 1997 regarding the friction between House Speaker Newt Gingrich and a faction led by Representative Paxon (who announced his resignation just 24 hours after Hume's death).

In addition, Sandy Hume had just joined the staff at Fox TV News and was just three weeks into a job that represented the pinnacle of his young career. Oddly enough, aside from echoing the one Associated Press story, the Fox News website has ignored the death of its newest commentator.

Sandy already had a reputation for getting the story that nobody else wanted to look at. It is worth noting that his death came hard on the heels of reports that "a reporter" was about to break a story confirming the White House's use of investigators to dig up dirt on critics.

It has recently been confirmed that the man who performed the as-yet-unreleased autopsy is none other than Dr. James C. Beyer, who has a record of concealing homicides behind a ruling of suicide.

Kenneth Starr's "suicidologist" Dr. Alan L. Berman has waded in again and as he did in the Foster death ruled it "100% certain that this is a suicide and can be nothing else

Study: L.A.'s Anti-Gang Programs Aren't Working
(CBS) LOS ANGELES Los Angeles is losing the battle against street gangs because it lacks a cohesive, well-funded approach to keep youngsters from joining gangs in the first place, according to a city-commissioned study.

The study by the Advancement Project, a nonprofit group, suggested that the 23 anti-gang programs spread throughout various city departments be put under a single authority, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The programs cost $86 million annually.

The Los Angeles City Council commissioned the study in response to a continuing plague of gang violence in recent years, despite increases in spending on anti-gang efforts.

"You've had a pretty ad hoc, scattered, incoherent approach to the problem," civil rights attorney Connie Rice, co-author of the study, told the council's Ad Hoc Committee on Gang Violence and Youth Development, according to The Times. "Somebody needs to be responsible. There needs to be centralized accountability."

Rice said the last phase of the study, to be completed by the end of the year, will look at possible models for better coordination of anti-gang programs, including appointing a gang czar at City Hall, creating a city department and reorganizing an existing city office or convening a task force,

Go ahead and try that. You'll only embarrass yourselves.

There are no cops to put on the streets so your motion that you'll push through will NOT be the most embarrassing thing to City Council, but it will be pretty embarrassing for you when you can't produce.

Take my advice and step back from this one. If there were 1000 men and women out there who wanted to be cops - trust me when I say - Hahn would have gotten them into the academies and so would Villaraigosa.

Perhaps the congress should focus on a public service campaign to help LAPD find people to become cops.

That would be much more productive than trying to embarrass City Council.

I'm one of you and I don't want you to be embarrassed, but I think that post was rash and not thought out well.

I have to weigh in on this!

I have 9 member of my family...uncles, cousins, and nephews, who have been career LAPD officers going back 20 years.

Guess what...they have ALL left LA for greener pastures in the past 2 years!!!!!!

Reasons? They are multiple, but primary reason is the Mexican mafia in City Hall. My relatives are white, all-American no-nonsense guys, but they are fed up with the illegals and gangs that are given carte blanche to roam and control this city.

They aren't allowed to do their job! And when AV took over, they just left!!!!!!

In addition, they said that at least 50 of their fellow officers are in the process of moving out of State!

The situation is out of control...retired homicide detectives are being called back to active duty because of the increase of crime in the past 2 years!

AND...bilingual officers are being paid more!!!!!!!

New graduates of the Academy are contracted to remain with LAPD for at least two years, but many of them are leaving the city right after graduation!

White officers are fleeing! And it is a HUGE loss to this city!
