Yes you read that right. Someone call in the straight-jackets Wacko Jacko's trolley has completely left the tracks.
In order to stir up a smokescreen and prevent NC's from being able to recommend items for the City Council to consider in committee, City Councilman Jack Weiss went on the attack today demanding that the City Attorney compile a list of Neighborhood Council ethics violations.
As if this particular schmuck has any room to talk. Weiss, who was fined $4,800.00 for his 32 ethical violations 8 months ago also erroneously accused one Neighborhood Council of passing an anti-gay marriage resolution under the premise that these types of motions would be given credence with official City Council File Numbers. He also raised that Neighborhood Councils could pass motions on nonsense things like the war in Iraq. Hey Jacko, you geniuses already did that on your own! Motion against torture, Motion to enact a Draft. As for the Gay Marriage issue, yea Jacko, you got that one covered too!
The last argument that was made was that the proposal had not spent enough time in committee. It spent 18 months in committee. Unlike Measure R, term limit extensions which spent 3 whole hours before making it onto the agenda, passing ethics and thumbing their nose at the City Attorney.
So what is this really about? Power. Plain and simple. The idea that lobbyists are going to flood NC's with gifts to put forward an advisory position that they would then have to run and lobby the City Council to pass is insane. Nope, it is a smokescreen. Lobbyists may attempt to quell community opposition, and do that now. But to even equate the NC's ethical obligation with that of a City Council member is a slap in the face to anyone with a 2nd grade or above education.
No, it is all about power. The idea that lobbyists might feel they "need" the Neighborhood Councils whose members then build a relationship once exclusive to the incumbent is what the real fear is.
Weiss has in all likelihood seriously miscalculated today. I would venture a guess he is going to have more than a few bad days coming.

Mr. Weiss has poured gasoline on an already lit fire. And you're right. Nobody cares about neighborhood councils. Those nobodies are called the Clowncil, their minions and various hangers-on.
Grab your marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate squares and get ready for s'more of the same thing. What? No weenies? The Clowncil is bringing theirs.
Weiss is a complete fool. He acts as if he is above the fray but took a shot directly at the Neighborhood Councils today.
Why is it that the rules don't apply to city council? When they want something passed they bypass NC's, Citty attorneys, or anyone else for that matter. But for something as simple as this they have to go and start all this shit.

Weiss is one of the best-educated guys on the Council. And yet also one of the very worst examples of what "public service" has come to mean in the eyes of those who feel entitled to their positions of power and influence. Also, if we are to believe what he says, he is one of MAV's "best friends and closest aliies..."
I heard the same thing, that Councilman John is 3 or 4 different people. Your right, it has nothing to do with anything.

There were no surprises today, and John is overstating things quite a bit, from my understanding---I didn't go, but I talked to three people who did. Anyway, anything that gets called suddenly into a special after a year and a half is not going to pass right away, you know?
Greg Nelson kinda cracks me up. I think he is to date the most underachieving guy in the whole LA political landscape, and the City Councilpeople generally prefer to keep him that way. He saw close up what an unsuccessful campaign did to Wachs and I think that put a little fear into him. He was already exceptionally obliging as a Deputy but as a Deputy to a Mayoral candidate he was run ragged with stress.
He could be a City Councilperson if he lived in, say, errr...LaBonge's district. And of course if they beat that term limit measure.
Jason can handle this, and can handle Alger too, and it's right for him. Conversely, Greg, you are 60 effing years old. You don't get these years back, Greg! Carpetbag it to Franklin Hills and go for Council now, maaannn!!!

Just like calling Hollywood, "Los Angeles" or all Los Angeles "ELA" because there alot of Latino's. Your bashing Rose Hills, Univ. Hills, Hill Side Village, and others. What I can't understand how can they hire people mading surveys who don't know the Communitys. I would be glad to give you a tour of Univ. Hills which is location near Cal. State Los Angeles. 2. No one is bashing Rose Hill, Univ Hills, Hillside Village or others thatI know of. What are you talking about? Where was this bashing taking place and on what date? Who was there to witness this bashing?
3. Who hired who for surveys? What are you taking about?
4. I do not beloing to any gang Mr. Chacon, I am concern about your memo and accusing me of belonging to a Gang. I like a meeting with you ASAP to know why and how come your attacking me and making theese false accusations. What did I do to you to cause such an outright slander of my good character? August 2006 Community Needs Survey
In order to give our new Mayor and Councilman direction as to our community needs and priorities for improving El Sereno¡¯s quality of life ¡please complete the following survey ASAP. Our objective is to advise our representatives on future programs and/or service we need in our community.
1. What is the most urgent need in our community? Priority these issues on a scale of 1- 2 - - The number (1) one ¡being priority; the number (2) ¡is secondary.
Good afternoon Jimmy, I wish to start of by saying that the efforts to prepare this survey is with great intentions. As a stake-holder in the LA-32 Neighborhood Council, and as an Executive Board Member, it should be clear that there are four (4) communities that should be represented fairly and equally. In reading the survey, whether it is deliberate or unintentional, the basis to acknowledge El Sereno is partial and excludes the other neighbors in which we serve.
If you truly step up and show that your efforts are genuine to all stake-holders, then the communities of Hillside Village, Rose Hills, and University Hills should all receive equal or higher recognition to get those areas at a level playing field as the community of El Sereno. How would your prospective of the board be, if 90032 is recognized as only University Hills. I believe you would speak up and say....."hey, I live in El Sereno, why am I not considered".
This is not intended to create conflict or separation, it is just that the fact of the matter, no matter who you ask within the city structure, that there are four communities recognized by the city here in LA-32 NC. Please ensure that all residents in the LA-32 NC structure receive the appropriate information.

Okay I've had it with this BS! El Sereno is a sub-city of the City of Los Angeles which includes a business corridor, industrial area and bedroom communities, which includes Hillside Village, Rosehills, Baird Park, Emery Park, University Hills, Happy Valley, as bedroom communities/areas! Do you guys get it?! These other areas are just track mapped in this manner for construction identification purposes! Just because they are track mapped and named in this manner, it does not mean they are a city of their own. Would you stop thinking like a separatist!
El Sereno is the bigger picture! Can we show some cohesiveness for our community?!
If you look at other Neighborhood Councils outside of CD14 they all indicate a larger community as the name of their NC, but no we have to bear the ridiculous name of LA32 to satisfy people who are either ashamed of being associated with El Sereno or they think their bedroom community is better or they are just separatist! I'm sure other people in the City of Los Angeles see our NC listed in on the city's website they say, "where in the heck is LA32"? It's embarrassing that we can't show cohesiveness in our community and have our NC titled as one. Our NC should really be titled as The El Sereno Neighborhood Council, which includes all these other track map names or bedroom communities within El Sereno!
I've had it with this closed minded separatism thinking! You need to look at the bigger picture folks!

This looks like it was a pre-emptive strike in support of the term limits and bond measures.
By attacking the Neighborhood Councils based on ethics months before the election, he may hope to undermine their credibility when they attack the City Clowncil for putting propositions on the ballot without vetting them to the NC's.
That way, he can claim they're merely retaliating and should be ignored.

The rumor is that this was a "smackdown" of Jayson Lyon because he wrote the opposition to the Term Limit extension.

Will see who fucked up when the Neighborhood Council organize and campaign against term limit extensions. The CLOWNCIL MEMBERS showed today they are running scared of anyone attempting to show them up. They are a bunch of hypocrites. The NC's showed in force and the arguments against were absolutely absurd. The boys did a great job. Go after those CLOWNCIL MEMBERS.
Unfortunately Jayson Lyon made one critical mistake, he failed to count the votes before hand.
When Alger did the DWP fight he made sure every vote was in hand. I saw Jim there with Jayson today and I doubt Jayson will make that same mistake twice.
Three things scare the City Council. Jim Alger's rapid re-engagement after the election, Jayson Lyon's organization of 52 Neighborhood Councils (10 more than Alger got) and these two guys working together.
The City Council has been looking for a reason to "smack em down" for a while but I think they have underestimated the tenacity of these two.
Weiss just launched a missle at the NC's, but when the NC's drop a tactical neuclear weapon on his head he's going to go crying home to mama.
You guys really give too much credit to NCs. Its fucking pathetic. Every politician and staffer knows that electeds beat out NC leaders 10 times out of 10.

The NC's are made up of real people who "care" which makes them persona non grata to Clowncil members like Weiss. They give their time for the community. When was the last time Weiss did anything for anyone just because he cared? You can't even get past his minions or get his attention. No points....no photo op.... not there!!!
