Hard to Say You're Sorry

Council President Eric Garcetti has joined with other members who are asking Police Chief Bill Bratton to apologize for remarks he made about Council Members Dennis Zine and Bernie Parks.

It seems as if the former motorcycle cop and the bitter man are upset that they no longer run the LAPD. The remarks stem from criticism of both Zine and Parks that the department intends to hire some recruits who admit to drug use as teens. Bratton's response was that the two cops turned Councilmen should mind their own business.

To be sure, Bratton probably could have taken a less strident tone, but its no different than when he told a voter if they didn't like the LAPD's policy on illegal immigration, they could leave the state.

Despite being a pompous ass at times, Bratton nonetheless has made some significant progress as Chief, far ahead of what any recent chiefs have accomplished.

Maybe Bernie and Denny should leave the state.

Last time I checked we lived in a free society. These grown men are acting like a bunch of fucking cry babies. Even the Daily News said they should act like men and get mad...end of story. But no they go and snitch..."Bratton said mean things about us".....They have mother issues. Zine lost his temper telling off South LA Farmers at city council http://www.aztlan.net/jewish_mafia_terrorize_campesinos.htm.
Then you have Bitter Bernie who is still pissed beause he lost his job as Chief. I say screw them all and YOU GO CHIEF.!!!!!!

Re "Tensions Flare Between Council, Chief Bratton," July 14
It seems clear to me that Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks is the problem. He's mad because L.A. Police Chief William Bratton replaced him and is doing a better job.
So what if Bratton says Parks doesn't know what he is talking about and to mind his own business? Bratton is probably right. Park's complaint only shows how vindictive he is.
Also, for Parks to use the race card is reprehensible. That tactic just doesn't cut it anymore.

The decision of some of our City Council members to pursue an investigation of recent comments made by Bratton is ultimately based on the personal agendas of some council members and does not serve any productive purpose. Such maneuvers are nothing new to the local politics of any municipality. The story always goes that the scoffers set out to critique and tear down the one who's getting something done — usually because he makes them look bad.

This City Council has done little to help Bratton do his job well, and the LAPD has performed in spite of them. Bratton just wants to get the job done, and the council should put personal issues aside and start helping him.

NO CLASS.

One good thing Hahn did was get rid of Parks as police chief. Bratton has a huge ego and lots of frequent flier miles, but he's still a much better chief. All these city buttheads -- starting with AV -- should repeal the destructive sanctuary city policies. wishful thinking.

MEAT/Ullysees,

Here's another apology that Tony owes, to you. For making you believe that you have are some kind of politcal guru. You're just as bad as your former boss Victor Griego, what is his won/loss ratio - 10:90?

And yes, please keep going with the Hahn apology list, it is very entertaining especially since one of those benefitting from his supposed lack of domestic violence crack downs is Tony. That case regarding that female State employee that Tony fought with in the State Capitol garage is still on file with the State Police, right? Parke can't have this one sealed.

Okay, MEAT, please do "go on" (since it took you all morning to draft that rant). But let's take a more positive stance this time. How about promises KEPT in most recent office held. . . and to make things easier for you and Tony V., let's JUST look at what Hahn has done for the Eastside (ADV's home "turf"). I'll start, you may want to take a week off from the throwaway newspaper to do your research, (but it won't help). And, no fair trying to list all 80 (FAKE) NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES as separate items, not that you or anyone else could
Promises KEPT, OH shit, MEAT now you've opened up a can of worms... the only promises ADV ever keeps are the backroom brokered deals you can't print the details of here -- the one's that are contingent on people making campaign contributions to him. (Unless of course your "deal" is outbid by a bigger contributor).

These council members are jealous because at least Bratton has the BALLS to say it like it is not wimpy weak ass like they do. We need more leaders like Bratton to speak his mind. That is what this city is lacking "real leaders." Not the clowns we have on council. E-mails flying around the city today on this one and people supporting and saying Bratton should run for Mayor. Parks is bitter bitter bitter. Daily News said it best.
DISGRUNTLED EX COPS...POLITICANS TAKE IT TO FAR. To get Parks really mad all anyone has to do is ask what happened to his coke head daughter that was busted in Vegas for possession? You never hear or see her with daddy.

You know being Police Chief is really like being an elected official. I understand Mr. Bratton has his own chief of staff.

I remember interacting with him and his office when I was a council employee. The man is well poised to run for office one day. I just hope he has it in him to leave law enforcement behind and dedicate himself to politics. We need more folks like him.

Just so people know, he lives in Franklin Hills. That's CD 13 and Goldberg's Assembly seat that he resides in. Don't know what SD though.

No way should we give them more time to screw around on our tax dollars. Good for Jason Lyon of Silverlake who told them at council that they are rushing this without enough public input and it looks "bad". He told them to wait and have proper discussion.

Gossip all over city hall is Zine has become a weirdo and there's women who want to file for sexual harrassement but are afaid. Garcetti coming out this late against the Chief makes him look like a "Johnny Come Lately". He can't even get those losers in their seats on time for a meeting and he wants to all of a sudden act like a prez. Why in the hell is Tony and Jose getting involved? Jose will not be relected with his track record of a 'DO NOTHING COUNCILMAN'

Garcetti sent the letter on Friday and it is actually toned down from the over-the-top craziness from Parks. I think Bratton overstepped the line, and I am the chief's biggest fan in general. I think this is the press making things bigger than they are. Bratton would never have stood for comments like his own. Garcetti's doing a good, measured job and the council meetings have greatly improved. I saw him and the chief together recently and they are pretty tight. This was probably just to give a gentle slap on the wrist, which Bratton deserved.

I think Brattn is really good, but...he reads his press clippings a bit too much. And, notice when they asked for comment from him, he wasnt in town. Again.
He needs to stay in LA and stop touring the world. A little travel is ok, but he is gone over 25% of the time. He thinks he is untouchable.
Parks has no credibility as far as Police matters. His bitterness is his undoing. It seems he just wants to critiscize Bratton. Zine though, is a good guy. A little too conservative for me, but he is an easy going guy who isnt usually petty.

Bratton brought back the good image LAPD needed no thanks to Parks who allowed the corruption of his friends and Rampart. Don't forget it was Parks who promoted his buddy Deputy Chief Moore who was investigated by the IRS and FBI for money laundering. Remember the son who was the biggest coke distributor in South LA. Bratton being out of town is ok because he represents the best police dept. and he has good people at the top who know what they're doing. Think what this city would be like if Parks would have stayed? No police force. City council members are acting as if they haven't done a damn thing wrong. Mind you these are the idiots that waste time arguing with each other at meetings, been sued for not paying attention during a meeting and they are the ones we're suppose to listen to. NO WAY. The consenus throughout the city is Bratton was right in his comments and he has freedom of speech. Parks such a sorry ass Chief they booted him so why didn't these moronic council members complain during that time?

If you don't know Police Chief Bratton...he is probably the most well-known non-elected LA City official, and probably more well-known than some of the elected officials!

Bratton should run for one of the 7 council seats up next year. He would win hands down.

DISGRUNTLED EX-COPS
CITY POLS TAKE DRUG DEBATE TOO FAR..Daily News
LOS Angeles City Councilmen Bernard Parks and Dennis Zine, both retired cops, were clearly offended when Police Chief William Bratton insulted them during a TV interview. ….The three have been debating a new LAPD policy that relaxes the drug usage standard for new recruits. The two councilman remember the good old days of zero tolerance and think any change in the rules is a bad idea. Bratton vehemently disagrees and says the standards today are actually higher...Fair enough. They're all big boys and the public loves a good fight among big shots. But Zine and Parks chose to duck the fight themselves. Instead of calling Bratton before the council and confronting him, they filed a complaint with the Police Commission. Backed by three other council members, they have called for an investigation of several remarks Bratton made in the last few years that they feel were intemperate….It's hard to see what there is to investigate. Bratton said the councilmen didn't know what they were talking about. They got mad. End of story…..Zine and Parks have a lot of knowledge of police matters and a duty to challenge Bratton, who is hardly infallible. But this “investigation” is just a bogus harassment of a police chief who might be a little brash, but who so far has done a solid job of moving the LAPD forward after the Rampart scandal.

I can tolerate the battle of the egos, but the one thing that I will always remember is Bratton's infamous remark..."This is a Mexican city, and it you don't like it...leave."

Bratton is a hell of a lot better than Parks ever could have been...but the biggest problem in LA is illegal immigration and the Mexican mafia at City Hall.

Bratton needs to prove that he is pro-America...not pro-Mexico.

Just when you've think you seen it all.... This really is the lowest of lows when it comes to the City Council. First they want an apology from a kick ass Police Chief just because he "hurt" their feelings and made them all look like jack-a--es, and now they want to extend their term limits so they can screw things up even more? Logically, they should be ashamed of themselves for such selfish, childish behavior. But that would be asking too much from these morons. If anyone should apologize it is the City Council Idiots to Chief Bratton for trying to discredit him and his excellent record here in LA.

If Bratton ran for office, he definately would have my vote.

It is extremely upsetting to witness the activites in which Council members focus their attention.

During the last two weeks, kids have been shot and killed in Boyle Heights, Venice and in South LA for no apparent reason than just random acts of violence. Yet, council members are worried about their egos.

They should focus on providing Bratton with the resources the LAPD needs to make neighborhoods safe. They heed to the Blue Ribbon Report and not balk at the required 3,000 officers...1,000 is not going to cut it! Motorcyle cops are not going to take guns off the streets!

Let's focus on the real issues and let competent individuals like Bratton do their job.

Term limits will only give us more of the same lackluster leadership. Let's vote NO!
