Rats Off A Sinking Ship

Two staffers with the Los Angeles Unified School District are getting out while the getting is good.

Glenn Gritzner who has served as a Special Assistant to Superintendent Roy Romer announced his departure today to take a position as Managing Director, working in the Public Law and Policy Strategy practice at the law firm of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal.

As he departed, Gritzner took a chance to take a swipe at the District's critics saying, "For those of you in the Los Angeles political sphere, this District deserves better than it gets. We have made real progress in the last few years. Please keep that in mind the next time you pick up your paper and there's another of the inevitable hiccups in a place this size."

Jim McConnell, LAUSD's chief facilities executive is also resigning to "pursue other interests." On his departure McConnell was quoted as saying "I've done what I came here to do. We've built a world-class team. We're building much-needed new schools."

It is anticipated that Superintendent Romer will retire sometime next year.

Yeah, try not to inflict as much damage on your new clients as you have on LAUSD. And try to learn a little something about the City of Los Angeles. The private sector isn't as 'forgiving' as a public agency.

Roy Romer, Glen G, Jim Mconnell, all did GREAT work. People will say that regime turned the district around. New Schools, higher test scores, better morale!
They worked their asses off, and the results show it. It was a thankless job. So...we should thank them!!!

All that good work but still a +50% dropout rate. Yeah, let's thank them.

It's amazing that people will congratulate a guy (Glenn) whose claim to fame is not screwing up the District.

Let's bet Glenn's new law firm (Sonnenschein) are in line to get some work from the District (if they haven't already). And for the record, Sonnenschein has some of the highest rates in the City. Good for Glenn bad for the District which has a habit of paying exorbitant hourly rates for rudimentary work.

Did you hear that: it's the inspector general coming, Glenn.

Glenn's new law firm is a front for the JOBSPAC -- founded entirely with money from Phillip Morris, RJ Reynolds, and Chevron.

So instead of poisoning our children at school, Glenn will now assist poisoning our children all over the place.

No good deed goes unpunished... Shame on anyone sitting on the sidelines, throwing stones at these individuals. You're cowards and you don't know what you're talking about, so hush up! Regardless of what you think of LAUSD, these folks took on an impossible task and because of that, our City will no longer have schools on a year-round calendar. Of course, if you've put your kids through school already you want your money out of the system - we thank you for your selfishness. For the rest of use who have to live with the bad decisions of the past, we know that the path to a great society is educating the populous. Because of Mr. Romer, Mr. Gritzner and Mr. McConnell, they have ensured that Los Angeles will have a stronger workforce and future; I thank them for there tireless efforts. By the way, go check your facts: the dropout rate AV is quoting is wrong (that's been substantiated quietly by AV himself), but ANY dropout rate is unacceptable. Maybe when there aren't 5,000 seat high schools or busing across the City, kids will actually want to be in school!

Previous poster: you obviously don't follow what goes at the District. Glenn wasn't a vehicle for change, he was an obstacle.

Query people outside of Romer's sphere of influence and you'll find that Glenn dropped the ball on everything that came his way. And, the district is still a failure and will remain a failure despite the new schools being built because ineptness and corruption controls everything from the Superintendent, to the Controller, to the General Counsel and on and on and on.

The people of LA are being robbed silly and they don't even see the half of it.

To the person that said that Glenn Gritzner dropped the ball on everything that came his way -- That is an extreme comment for someone that is praised by everyone I know that has ever worked with Glenn Gritzner. Be specific about the balls that Mr. Gritzner has dropped, or be quiet.

WOW, I just did a Google Search on Glenn Gritzner. Instead of being so foul about Mr. Gritzner, you should be nominating him for sainthood.
